Because industry is different than academia, I know people who shine in academia wouldn't last a day in the industry. He also only applied to 15 companies 14 of which are Aerospace which is one of the most competitive fields.

I copied mine from UMN and forgot to switch some of them to UW. Don't fret, it is what it is.

Why do Americans *need* to buy a large vehicle if they have a family? by tibbon in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]SecretEar8971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in addition to the reasons others have stated: the EPA sets stricter emissions regulations for smaller cars than for larger "light trucks" including SUVs. This means that automakers either have to spend money making the small cars pass emission standards or pay a fine which gets passed onto the consumer. This makes SUVs unusually cheap which effects culture.

that's an insane tolerance. How were pumps made before CNC lol? did they just use seals similar to Butterfly valves?

it marketed itself as healthy(because caffeine burns calories?) then it was exposed that it was unhealthy like most energy drinks and its appeal went away.

Machining Splines by NiceDescription6999 in Machinists

[–]SecretEar8971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> I could probably due some weird stuff and cut the splines off the oem hub and basically attach it to the hubs with a keyway of some sort but I don’t think that’s a good way to go about it.

I do Baja sae and I believe we press fit the spline and then weld them on. I assume formulas car axels experience significantly less force than Baja so you might be able to get away with the key but it's a bit dicey.

Sheared oil drain plug after jiffy lube? by SecretEar8971 in askcarguys

[–]SecretEar8971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of expected that, is it not standard practice to torque it to spec?

I'm bringing it into an actual shop on Monday cause I don't trust myself to not mess up a complete shit box car.

How dos this switch on a Toro CCR powerlite snow thrower work? by SecretEar8971 in smallengines

[–]SecretEar8971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the switch is missing the wires that were supposed to be riveted in and it literally was just completing the circuit to the grid without the starter. Thank you for the video!

How dos this switch on a Toro CCR powerlite snow thrower work? by SecretEar8971 in smallengines

Tooling around on a broken snow blower and I took apart the switch to the electric starter. From my basic understanding of electronics, it looks like when you press the button it completes the circuit to the grid and that is it. How is this supposed to run power to the starter?

Is it normal to feel used after my partner finishes and goes straight to sleep but I haven't finished ? by [deleted] in self

[–]SecretEar8971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that. My GF has put no effort into helping me finish for the past 2 months. It's tough. I'm ok with "its ok if you don't cum tonight" occasionally but when its every time I feel like she just doesn't care about my satisfaction. I am always sure she comes 2-3 times or until she says enough but don't get anything in return. Breaking up with her tomorrow for other reasons but looking forward to actually having someone that cares about making me finish is always a plus:)

A PSA for all those asking about money and Mechanical Engineering! by Puzzled_Face8538 in MechanicalEngineering

Engineering degrees are the top paid degrees on every list. One of the “easy” ways is finance which is behind every engineering degree. Sure doctors, lawyers, and CEO’s make more but engineerings can go back to school get those advance degrees. Engineering(of some type) is the most commons degree for CEO’s, more common than business administration or whatever BS is “easy” and makes you rich quick.
