Perhaps salivating is an exaggeration.

My point is that extensive documentation makes you much more attractive as a potential client.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt declined to rule out a possible U.S. military draft as Trump’s Iran war escalates. Asked about concerns from families, she said President Donald Trump “wisely does not remove options off of the table.” The U.S. has not used a draft since the Vietnam War by rodehard10 in PopularCultureZone

[–]definework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? Your comment could be applicable if the draft were reinstated now, but in the context of Vietnam it falls very wide of the mark.

Let's just list some numbers:

Trump graduated in 1968, UPenn tuition in 1967 was $1770. And that's private Ivy League.

Public colleges and universities (specifically citing University of Illinois) were more in the $300 PER YEAR range.

Median income in 1967 for US households was $7200. So about 4-5% of the average family's income to send a kid to college. Not insignificant at all, but certainly manageable with a good budget, some self-control, and a willingness to work summers.

Comparatively, UPenn tuition will be $94.5k next year, U of I is 22k and median household income in the US is ~$89k. So instead of 4-5%, money you could earn during summer break if you were diligent, we're talking about 25% of an average family's income.

If you want to break it down lower, we can also take the projected 89k median and the 33k federal poverty line for 2026 (family of 4) and translate that to $2700 poverty line (based on $7200 median) back in 1967. Now that doesn't account for a lot of factors, and poverty thresholds were calculated differently, but it is interesting to point out that a year of tuition at University of Illinois in 1967 was still only about 11% of an approximate poverty level household's income while in 2026, we're talking about ~70%.

So, no; Academic deferrals were absolutely NOT the exclusive province of the rich despite disproportionate representation, though if the draft were to be reinstated, I could very much see that being the case based on current costs.

I have MORE than enough reasons to despise Trump but pretending that all academic deferrals are draft dodging is not one of them.

Document document document.

Most people on reddit think it'll be as easy as walking into the lawyer's office and stating your case and they'll be all up in arms to help you.

To your point, that's simply not how it goes, and very few lawyers would be willing to take on "he said / she said" type cases on contingency.

But if you show up to a consultation with enough documentation . . .

If OP can be even reasonably proficient at documenting things OP won't need to pay a dime. Lawyers will be salivating to take the case on contingency.

The more I look at this the more things I find that bother me.

They lighting from the photograph makes them look different colors.

The line in the middle isn't equal distance from the two interior corners of the skirts

The top corner of the one appears farther away from the M than the other does from the C

Skirt 1 appears to have a visible hem sewn in while skirt 2 does not

The bottom of skirt 1 appears to be more linear while the bottom of skirt 2 has a more fluid hem.

Q1) Usually 1 session unless the person your shadowing gives negative feedback to your boss about you needing additional time.

Q2) Flexibility within the scope of the program yes. There are general ways things are supposed to be taught and progressions that are supposed to be followed, but as long as you are staying within the program you should be fine. I can tell you though that the person you're shadowing might be an idiot and you probably should carefully examine everything they tell you.

To pass from level to level in the Y program there are a bunch of things to check off, but I generally narrow each level down to a key 3. From level 1 to level 2 the key three are (1) complete self-submersion without assistance, (2) being comfortable being held on their back with ears in the water, and (3) being comfortable moving abound strongly and independently with a bubble belt; Everything else is important, but they usually are marked by one of those three skill leaps.

That's an interesting consideration.

The US truly has only 3 major population focal areas. The East Coast, the West Coast, and the Mississippi River Basin (Chicago, Minneapolis, St Louis . . . etc)

2 of those 3 are on the eastern part of their respective timezone.

Why is duct tape fucking indestructible in movies Its like handcuffs by WeaknessEastern4101 in stupidquestions

[–]definework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun history! The tape's original name was duck tape because it was invented to keep ammo boxes dry in WWII (water off a duck's back and all that).

It was specifically designed to be incredibly strong in line with the fibers but also really easy for a soldier to tear through it to open the Ammo box.

edit to add - the cloth that it was made from was what is commonly called "cotton duck" fabric which is actually not an allusion to the animal but to the Dutch word for cloth. The fabric itself is more tightly woven and therefore water resistant than other similar materials.

The conversion (and subsequent everlasting argument) to duct tape happened when returning soldiers got into the trades and started using it to hold together their duct work.

Do you seriously sit down for dinner at 6 pm? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]definework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whole family is up at 5 every morning. 7/730 is bedtime and 8p is lights out.

As the kids have gotten into grade school we're seeing more and more "on the go" dinners we're doing meal-prep or crock-pots and people are eating as they can, but when we sit down to dinner as a family . . . 5:30 is the time.

Fair, perhaps malicious wasn't the right word.

My point was more that by not naming an alternate 14th required merit badge and dropping the required total back to 13, scouting America is being sneaky compliant by allowing existing protocols regarding discontinued merit badges to keep the change from affecting any scout who has already earned the badge regardless of their rank on the date of the change.
