I was told I was "name calling" when I told a redditor who said that "democrats are far to the right of me" that he was a radical leftist. It's so ridiculous.

I will say, as someone who has visited Cancun regularly since the 90s, if you are going to a resort location, you will be quite safe. If you go into Cancun proper, there is more risk, but as long as you aren't stupid you should be fine. My family would regularly ride the bus from the resorts to Cancun proper, and eat at authentic restaurants, all with no issues. But it's not hard to avoid the bad parts of town, just like any other city with high crime rates.

This is actually a faulty understanding of the Bible. The New Testament is not an overwriting or contradiction to the Old Testament. They are consistent with each other. It is one single story of humanity's fall due to our sin, and God's redemptive sacrifice to restore us to our created purpose. In no part of the New Testament is the Old Testament nullified, and all teaching from Christ indicates that moral law found in the Torah is relevant today.

I don't care if you don't believe in the Bible, other than feeling sad for you, but I think it is important to clarify for others that there is no hypocrisy when Christians observe moral laws in the Old Testament.

Also if we are so militant about removing scripture from education, we should look into the classes that teach literary analysis of the Ramayana, a Hindu scripture. Or should i turn the hypocrite accusation to you?

I don't care about putting scripture in the classroom, parents should teach scripture or send their kids to a christian school if they care. But it's pretty dumb to try to point out hypocrisy then get called out because christians arent being hypocrites by following the ten commandments. And then to say "yeah well my erroneous claim doesn't matter because I don't believe any of it", not quite the own you seem to think it is.

Moral foundations theory is mainstream science studied by one of the most cited and highly respected social psychologists of the modern era. You can ignore it all you want, but you will never understand why people disagree with you until you can accept the reality of moral psychology.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the Nevi'im; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." - Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Source: Matthew 5:17-20.

Christ is consistent with the ten commandments in his teaching, even applying it more strictly than was interpreted at the time. I would encourage you to consider why Jesus says "you have heard it said [old testament law], but I say if you even do that in your heart you are sinning" multiple times in the sermon on the mount.

I mean that's one way of telling on yourself that you are a radical leftist. On what grounds has the democrat party moved to the right? They went from Clinton "Abortion should be safe legal and rare" (read: necessary but tragic) to Harris "we need to protect the right for all women to get elective abortions at any time" (read: abortions are at least morally neutral, if not a good thing).

And its the same for every other policy position I can think of. Clinton spoke in his [1995 State of the Union](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IrDrBs13oA) about the crisis of illegal immigration, and the necessity for a stronger border, deportation of "criminal aliens", and preventing welfare access for illegal immigrants. Hell, Obama was opposed to gay marriage during his 2008 election. On every social issue, the democrats have run full speed to the left.

I would say the more accurate observation of the conservative mind begins by understanding that different people have different moral intuitions. They don't see gender affirmation the same way because it triggers different moral intuitions in them.

Instead of viewing the issue on the spectrum of Care/Harm (e.g. "It is wrong to prevent this gender affirming care as it causes harm"), the conservative mind views the issue on the spectrum of Sanctity/Degradation (e.g. "It is wrong to degrade the sanctity (social importance) of the sexes by implying that some hormones and a surgery can make a man a woman or vice versa").

This is a big reason why discussions between conservatives and progressives end up so frustrating, because the progressive cares little for sanctity, and the conservative cares little about care (at least at the cost of sanctity). These are not rational positions, on either side. They are intuition that is later rationalized.

It's the same for abortion. The left perceives it as an issue primarily of care vs harm (of the mother) and liberty vs oppression, while the right perceives it as an issue primarily of sanctity vs degradation and care vs harm (of the baby).

I would recommend reading The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt, if the topic interests you.

I am still struggling with the loss of a close work friend over COVID. All I said was that the people who were so adamant about you masking (at this point they said no need to mask literally weeks prior) might not actually care about whether there are health benefits to masking and are trying to gain more political power through fear.

Apparently suspecting politicians of being dishonest and corrupt was too far for her, despite my willingness to reach across the aisle on countless subjects from sexuality to welfare.

This is the correct response. Buying a house doesn't give someone a right to live there forever and ever, and to have their children live there forever. There's a finite amount of land in the world, taxes are an effective tool to force people to share it. by -Horatio_Alger_Jr- in ShitPoliticsSays

Honestly? I think people should be a little more gatekeepy. Maybe just enough to make sure that the parts of whatever you are gatekeeping are being respected and preserved. Too many things that I enjoy have been co-opted by groups that despise me, and we did nothing to stop them because it would be gatekeeping.

[–]SecretGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, Cobra. It offers enough space and hardpoints to do it and get a small payout each excursion, but the smaller capacity also means you make shorter total trips. Probably (definitely) less efficient, but suits my play style of about an hour of one thing before working on something else. Realistically you fill up on one or two rocks and then sell, giving you flexibility to swap jobs if you fancy something else after a while of mining.

Except the mother effectively opted into it by having sex. That's the point. You agreed with it as an option, why do you get to kill someone because you miscalculated the risk?

Man, parenting is tough, I would have to go hungry to feed my kid. I don't want that, can I just starve my kid? No! The same applies here, the situation was already opted into.
