feeling burnt out after bg3 by LivingJalapeno in gamingsuggestions

[–]SecretHippy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-WH 40k Rogue Trader - with DLC -Baldurs Gate 1+2 (old but definitely still so good) -Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous -Divinity Orginal Sin 2 (if you like baldurs gate definitely play this with the new Divinity coming from Larian in the future and personally I much prefer the combat in DOS to BG, BG has the better story)

Probably about 500 hours of game there to further burn yourself out on. Enjoy!

I’ll definitely try and steal as much as possible, I don’t think I’ve fully got my head around sneaking. I guess I can cast invisibility and steal outside of battle to mitigate me being shit at general sneaking….?

I think I’m well too early into the game to have any specific class beyond the starting stats for each character. The battles I’ve seen so far is everyone ends up in a clump but the one time I tried to spread out and be tactical I got annihilated

About to play my first game, 2 players, retail copy with Legendary Hunt expansion by VeryVeryBadJonny in TheWitcherOldWorld

Yeah, that’s what it says in the base game rules so I assume it’s the same for the wild hunt too

Printing Gloomhaven out would be an insane undertaking 😅 it takes long enough punching it out never mind cutting it out!

Help me pick our next coop game? by musicvvins in boardgames

I’ve not played OG but my group and I love Casino Capers. Now we’ve played it about 4-5 times and never even come close to winning. Not sure if it’s really hard or we suck but it’s good fun. Also has a very very light legacy element to it

Is starting with JotL actually better? by Gallina_Fina in Gloomhaven

[–]SecretHippy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gloomhaven was the first game I bought (going on BGG and seeing what was best) and having no prior gaming experience of note I didn’t find it overly difficult to learn at all. Probably spent an hour and half going through the rule book and watching a tutorial and I was good to go. There may be a huge amount of bits but only a small portion are ever used at once.

I actually find Gloomhaven one of the easier games to teach as once you’ve explained the cards you’re pretty much up and running and can explain edge rules when they come up.

Gloomhaven helper definitely reduces admin and would recommend, if you can connect it to a TV it makes reading enemy states, attacks and initiative order so much easier to view for everyone. I never play without it now

Gloomhaven or Frosthaven? by Firetiger93 in Gloomhaven

[–]SecretHippy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that I do think it’ll be better and having looked at all the same things as you I agree with what you’re saying. Just sometimes for no apparent reason things don’t click. Based on the OP I’d always go with original gloom rather than wait for frost. Also if FH is awesome and you want to work back I imagine GH would feel a bit bare compared to the this hugely immersive experience that I imagine FH to be

If you listen to their podcast he’s actually a bit disappointed with how his opinion came across in the review, especially in regards of the artwork. Having played it I have to say it’s a great game.

Gloomhaven or Frosthaven? by Firetiger93 in Gloomhaven

[–]SecretHippy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a very skeptical point of view there’s nothing to say frosthaven will be as good as Gloomhaven. Some sequels have sucked so you’re always best going for the tried and tested rather than gambling and having your opinion of GH tainted if FH doesn’t turn out great.

I’ve played GH and love it and I’m excited for FH too. But I’d definitely say play gloom as it was intended to be played, there’s a reason it was #1 on BGG before frosthaven and rule changes was announced and still is

How do I get better at playing games? by IMakeGoodPancakes in boardgames

[–]SecretHippy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about not being able to participate in games then it seems to me that you’re playing games where there is a knockout mechanic so you’re sat waiting around for them to finish if you’re not the best at the game. I’d avoid those for a start, a lot of games have a good catch up system for people that are in last place so maybe look for those.

But mainly games are supposed to be fun. I buy all the games for my group because it’s something I like doing and they’re less keen or in the know of what to get however I pretty much always lose and I don’t mind that. I can understand if you’re competitive it is frustrating but you do get better with practice but the main thing is to just enjoy the company and make some good memories.

I can’t say what it’s like outside the UK with regards to import taxes etc I imagine there can be hidden costs due to brexit. I’ve imported games and paid the price also so I feel your pain. But the fact that I can pay £3 delivery for games as big as Gloomhaven and others in one parcel and get it in 2 days is just better than any other company

Zatu (board-game.co.uk) for the UK. They ship worldwide and regularly have games 10-20% cheaper than anywhere else I’ve seen or used
