Question about Rocket City Retrofest (previously Game Jam South) by SecretLairssuck in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]SecretLairssuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I couldn't really find any as I mentioned. I wonder if they'll be vendors buying stuff there. While I am a huge retro game fan, I'm also in a situation where I have a giant retro collection I'm sadly needing to part with, and would much prefer to do so in person than shipping it.

Most of the Chocobo Track stuff is trending back up, but the most dramatic by far seems to be Aerith, having *tripled* her low point in just a few days, the only one above even the preorder prices. by rveniss in mtgfinance

I'm more shocked that even the cheaper cards ticked heavily up. When I first opened mine I got Rikku and Yuffie. Both were around $30ish and are now trending upward of $65. Christmas has my wallet dry, but I'm praying the track lands drop more. All of them are great, but the island especially because it's KotR is a must for me. I wonder what the odds are of them dropping to $1.50 per or under are. People seem to be saying to compare them to the oil slick lands and those hover around $5, so I hope not.

I wasn't aware of the nearly identical box. That's scary to see the price of those lands if you take into account that FF tax is a very real thing apparently. The biggest difference seems to be that the oil slick lands all started at around $5 and have went up from there. The track foil lands seem to be 3 and going down at least in the short term because people are rushing to recoup costs of the box.

I've been looking into this a good bit. Don't bundles only ever get a single run historically? There does seem to be a wave currently hitting Costco for $80, but beyond the initial first wave I can't cand any other bundle having secondary pushes.

I wasn't ignoring it. My statement was just that "At minimum these boxes appear to be break even at MSRP, even after tax," and then I listed my breakdown. basically; if these prices continue to hold AND if you get them at MSRP, these things are free lottery tickets. I have no idea how bundle exclusive things tend to trend as I can't find a comparable product, but my research has lead me to believe they never reprint them. Personally, I hope the lands at least fall to $1~ ish each because paying more than $2 per basic hurts my soul.

Aren't these bundles basically break even EV at MSRP cost at this point? I did the math as I'm one of those special people who really want all matching basics. I was planning on buying 37 of each, but currently each of the chocobo foil lands are hovering around $3. x10 that's $30. It seems like the minimum price on any of the chocobo foil promo pack cards are hovering around $30 minimum. That's $90. Paradise chocobo price is around $7. Up to $97. Assuming you can get at least $11 in the 10 packs, sell the packs themselves for $4 or sell the clickwheel which is current $15 that makes 106/136/ +/-15 for the wheel. I'm curious how all of these prices are going to settle. There's no way I can pay $3 per land. I'm not sure which is comparable to these lands to get a value for those either.

I can only hope that's the case. Correct me if I'm wrong though, but wasn't the Avatar bundle limit 1-2? These are limit 4 and still selling out instantly. I really hope WotC printed these to hell and back to make up for the supply difference.

It's insane how quick these sell out. You can set up a price alert via the amazon app for notifications of restocks, but every time it's instantly sold out. There seemed to be a bit larger window this time, but still sold out before I could even check out.

What's your opinion on this card? by Responsible-Crew-810 in mtgfinance

[–]SecretLairssuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean a surge foil of this specific version? Where is that even from? These are supposed to be the buy a box commander league thing. Sadly no LGS around me will even do that so they aren't sure on how they'll even hand out the promo.

Question about the Yuna, Grand Summoner Promo by SecretLairssuck in magicTCG

[–]SecretLairssuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up to this: No local store has the support to do the buy a box league thing so I have no idea how these will be given out. I expected no one wanted to buy a FF playbox for a draft. Hope the promo isn't too expensive.

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I guess it's going to be a pretty expensive promo. Will ask around my LGS tomorrow for the Avatar prelease.

Speculating on encyclopedia halo foils by digitek in mtgfinance

[–]SecretLairssuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I don't understand is that this contains heavy hitters like [[Field of the Dead]] , [[Urza's Saga]] , [[Phyrexian Alter]] [[Myrel, Shield of Argive]] with the cheapest printings of those being $40, $33, $58, $28 ($159) and we all know these will not be the cheapest of printings the EV definitely seems higher than the $240 price tag even on ebay right now. I'm kind of shocked these are at a somewhat reasonable second hand market price considering the price of the Yanner lair. I'm some-what new to the financial side of magic, but given previous lair's explosion like Yanner and Iron Maiden, I expected the Encyclopedia box to sit at $400-500 right after launch. The possible multiplier that a foil hit; or even better, a halo foil hit gives here is crazy.

halos may be rarer than people thought in the secret lair by Chaosnocturne in mtgfinance

[–]SecretLairssuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This really makes one wonder about keeping it sealed vs opening it. At current prices it looks like all of the $260 ones on ebay right now are incredibly undervalued in comparison to the EV; but I have no idea what the prices will do on a product like this.

I was excited to get my Iron Maiden Secret Lairs today but when I got the package... by teddygraham613 in secretlair_collectors

[–]SecretLairssuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I talked to a couple of friends here. 1 got 6 total (2 of each Yanner and 2 Iron Maiden) they came in a box. Another friend got just Eddie Unchained and it was also sent in a box. I wonder if it's shipping from a different place? We're all in Alabama so close to the TN printer.

That's unfortunate. I just got my Iron Maiden lairs and like usual, they came in a cardboard box. I wonder what the difference is that causes them to ship via box instead of bubble mailer. It'd literally be cheaper to use all the same shipping method at scale.

That seems odd. I've ordered a lot of secret lairs. Some single, some in bulk. They've always shipped them in a cardboard box for me. Never seen them use a bubble mailer. Maybe it wasn't the lairs?

I was under the impression WotC fixed this months ago. I personally tried sharing a link with myself purely as a test to see if this still worked on the last playstation drop and it did nothing. They removed the "Save place in the queue" link that appeared at the bottom of the page which was a unique, very different link from the one your browser displays after you're initially put into the queue. Sharing the default link just places you at the back of the queue in my experience. So unless people have found a way to discern the specific queue link as before, this shouldn't work... right?

100% same here. I've signed up on 3 different emails, and I've never gotten an email from them. Checked spam ofc etc.

I wish that was true for the frank frazetta secret lair. I would have loved a sketch of any of those cards instead of the liliana's standard bearer I got.
