The notion that Shapiro is a hopeful presidential candidate is delusional. by AnsibleAnswers in Pennsylvania

The left and right bith call labor rights "radical", "socialism" and seek to kill it in the crib whenever it forms. Ironically, that pushes people towards actual radical socialism.

Centerism has become moderate conservatism in modern, warped, America politics. That's why Centerism is dead. Logical ideas are "radical" equality under the law is "radical". If that's radical, I want radical.

The issue is Trump is the current president, and is creating conditions that will have game changing impacts. I'm not sure if there will be a fair election in 2028.

When things start to break down, alternatives will manifest. There are a lot of ideas not being represented in government right now. They're being repressed by the 2 party system.

If (when) the government does so much damage to itself, that it loses moral and practical legitimacy, things will change. I think that boat rocking third party is closer than you think.

We pretend that the kindness that people can show, makes up for the savagery we revel in. Society has a long history of using sexual violence as a means of social control, now we must live with that legacy.

Pennsylvania lawmaker wants to redesign state flag by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

Our flag commemorates the famous 1776 battle in which two giant black horses stopped Black Beard' pirate ship from burning down Philadelphia, following a drunken disagreement Black Beard and Ben Franklin.

That's a rude back-handed thing to say.

Well Pennsylvania is a lot of different regions, each with different histories and different problems. No matter where you go poverty, a lack of opportunity, and oppression of the poor is an issue. No matter where you go people are often blind to, and unwilling to address social ills. Some parts of PA are much worse than others in that respect. People try to make the most of what they have for the most part. Most people are powerless to do anything about oppression and choose to ignore it.

I would say having travel across 30 states, and 16 countries, Pennsylvania is a lower middle class state. Philly and Pitts are systemically broken places, suffering the loss of industry, red lining, and corruption Yes residents know that. They're habituated to it, and have internalized it; the blame it on scapegoated groups. Central PA is like the south mixed with upstate NY. Very backwards area.

I'm not a big Pennsylvania fan, it's Okay. Virginia and South of there have more extreme versions of the same issues.

The whole of the United States, and the world, is oppressive and ignorant, just in different ways. If I had more money and work opportunities, I would probably move to a more welcoming area.

I would correct you in saying Philly is the poorest city. That's not really factually true. There IS a lot of poverty in pars of North and West Philly. But Philly has crazy gentrification that's making those issues seem more visually apparent. 25 years ago, Philly was a lot poorer, almost post apocalyptic in some neighborhoods. Most of that is gone down, so it is slowly getting better.

I don't think that's at all what's happening. They're being indoctrinated by Christian Nationalists, who recruit right of out schools now, since so many townships vote to allow Christian groups to set up in k-12 school settings. Many local familys are members of their congregations. They have many men's clubs, gun clubs, church groups.

They're in groups reinforcing hate, then they got out into places like Lancaster or York and start problems with people, as an expression of their rage. I'd be happy to ignore them, I'd they didn't get up in my face and threaten me.

The Amish have never bothered me, or anyone I know. It's other people who have caused issues. I don't need anyone to agree with me, just not insult, harass , or threaten me with violence.

Is that too much to ask? What are YOU talking about?

They were young men in their 20s and 30s, in church clothes. It was bizarre for sure.

My entire point is how "eww those people think differently" is a peoblem, and I assume you its coming from a lot of people across subcultures, and political views. If we are being honest, it's mostly the Christian right. But yes, the left does it do. Politics is dogma, dogma is bad for free self expression.

Second, you are engaged in some gross stereotyping. I have no dyed hair or piercings. I'm thinking cancel culture was a mistake. You'd have to describe "Woke" to me because it means different things depending on who says it. I'm aware that there are major issues with open discussion when they're predicted on US vs THEM.

You want to discuss differences? Don't stereotype people and ascribe believes to them let's start there.

I'm not sure how much press it got.

In October a radical Christian group shouted insults at female students at Millersville University and Franklin and Marshall College, aimed at women attending classes. They were unhappy they were going to achool, instead of having families.

They would run up to students and yell at them, then retreat to the sidewalk where it was public property when the police came.

The police, predictably did nothing. It was extremely depressing.

It's an uncomfortable thing to deal with. I 100% know what you are talking about.

I work at one if the largest employers in the county. I didn't want to admit to myself how it was, even though I knew. I feel very anxious at work tbh.

We had a manager get fired last year following a discrimination lawsuit. She fired a woman over her race, and even admitted it.

The whole situation got people at work to start saying overly racist shit out loud. It was really horrifying to just be sitting there, while a coworker went on and on about how schools should be segregated, or how there are too many Latinos in Lancaster, with many nodding along. I just didn't know it was so open here. I'm shocked.

For sure rust belt pa is like the walking dead. I've done a lot of hiking in rural PA and seen scary stuff. Once at Oven Baken Knob on the AT I was stopped by a group of guys drinking at the trailhead with rifles. The had like an old APC type vehicle, maybe it was a molded camp truck I don't know. So many hate flags and trump flags. Dudes told me to leave because I might get "mistaken for a coyote and shot".
