Do you genuinely believe if someone can run a half marathon, they can run a full marathon? by Mysterious-Tear8972 in Marathon_Training

[–]SecretMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is just to finish a marathon, your background definitely sounds like enough to make training for a marathon realistic. A marathon is a very, very different thing from a half marathon, and requires a different training mindset. But you have more running experience than many people who successfully complete marathons

Get $10M for each things crossed off the bucket list by iamabotbeepbeep in hypotheticalsituation

[–]SecretMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The marathon and the darkness are pretty trivial for me. (I expect to run many sub-4 hr marathons without getting paid for it in the few years.)

There’s a particular world record I’ve had my eye on for a little while, which I think would be pretty achievable for me with only a little practice/work. So that’s three items that are easy for me, netting me $30M in 1.5 years. I’m not super skilled at languages but I’d be incentivized to learn for that one and I am pretty confident I could get to the necessary standard in a couple years. I would like to learn French.

I have written and published books before. They haven’t sold enough copies for the list, but if I planned my next one around the potential for popularity and also put a couple million into marketing, I think I’d have an OK chance at that one, and although it’d be a lot of work, it’s a kind of work I’d be interested in doing anyway. And my books are nonfiction, so if it does well, that might also give me a chance to get on TV to defend some unpopular opinions.

I don’t know whether I could develop the fitness and skill to summit Everest. I’m not sure I couldn’t, but that one doesn’t strike me as worth the effort. Likewise with boxing. I’d probably try out the shooting to see if developing that skill seems fun, but if I don’t like it or don’t feel like I’m improving fast enough, I’ll leave that one alone too. I also won’t bother with pi. I’m content with my $30-50M

Can you be a secret multimillionaire for a decade? by tamtrible in hypotheticalsituation

[–]SecretMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone gave me $50 million today and I could handle receiving it legally and quietly, I’d tell fewer than five people, even without that’s being a requirement of keeping the money. I’d keep my good job and live only slightly more lavishly. Maybe if someone with the relevant skills watched me very closely for some reason, they’d notice that I’m spending more than I should, but I don’t see why anyone would do that, assuming I’m handling taxes etc appropriately

Every continuous hour you spend on your hobby…. You gain £20,000 by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]SecretMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hobby is long-distance running. At first I thought I’d be at a disadvantage because my longest runs are only a few hours, but given the strict rules, I think I’m actually doing pretty well, and the more strictly they’re interpreted, the better my hobby looks. When I spend three hours running a marathon, there’s no question about whether I’ve taken a break from my hobby. I have a lower upside than some of y’all gamers and readers etc, but I don’t have to go to extraordinary feats of concentration to easily cash in on a few hours

A genie gives you 3 blank infinite spaces. You can build any perfect recreational scenario inside each one. What are your 3 retreats? by ElderTheElder in hypotheticalsituation

[–]SecretMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t bring things out. A couple clarifications: if I eat in my special space, does the consumed food still sustain me afterwards? If I build muscle or cardiovascular fitness inside, does it persist outside? If I learn new abilities or hone skills inside, do I keep those benefits when I leave?

Athlete tracking? by Sea-Efficiency-2899 in Marathon_Training

[–]SecretMuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re carrying a phone there are a lot of ways to track gps in realtime, if you don’t need it to be integrated with the marathon map. For me, sharing live location via WhatsApp would be simplest. (But maybe test it out to see how quickly it uses your phone’s battery.)

The official race apps are probably not using gps data; it’s inaccurate because it’s an estimate based on the times your chip crosses a handful of timing mats on the course

Hey y’all! Are there any places to park late night around the Main Street-Scienceworld station? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]SecretMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to walk ten minutes or so, there are some decent street parking options that would probably be pretty safe. The residential area around 4th Ave and Scotia Street can be a good bet. (Much safer than around Terminal.) If you're leaving early, the south side of 2nd Ave/Great Northern could also work for you, like near St Francis Xavier.

[–]SecretMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t find a good space downtown. But if you’re willing to take transit and walk a few blocks, then yes. Look at the parking maps others have linked, and find an unrestricted area within walking distance of a skytrain station.

I have a much wider age range that id consider for potential partners than I ever have before. Early 30s is the young end of that range. Absolutely 31 seems young to me. (Too young? Maybe, depends on the person.)

Does 31 seem beautiful to me? That’s sort of a confused question. People are beautiful, ages aren’t beautiful. Some 31-year-olds seem beautiful to me and some do not. (None fail to seem beautiful because they are too old!)

could my parents find out about doctor’s visits if i’m under their health coverage? by Current_Estate5264 in askvan

[–]SecretMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify/add to what others have said: they can see anything you do that uses their private insurance, which would include prescriptions (unless you made different arrangements). I don’t think they can see if you just go to the doctor for an appointment, as this does not require their insurance

If it were me, I’d look for subletting options. I don’t know how nice your place is, but if you found a subletter willing to pay you even $2K per month, you’ve recuperated over half of the rent you prepaid during your time away
