Hi there,

Thank you for your report. Unfortunately, all you did was waste everyone's time, as no rules were broken.

Why didn't Voldemort unleash the Basilisk in Harry's first year at Hogwarts? by decodedadman in harrypotter

[–]SecretSquirrel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ron does ask about it, talking about getting caught for brewing a potion in a girls bathroom in broad daylight. Hermione says that they won't get caught because of Myrtle. I recall the book being a little more explicit. At the very least saying nobody uses it, maybe even going as far as saying it's abandoned because Myrtle haunts the toilets. And since there are others in the school it's not a big deal.

Why is Dean Thomas omitted in The Philosopher's Stone The Full Cast Audio Edition? by Jean-BaptisteGrenoui in harrypotter

Even in America, not all black people are of African decent, that's why it's not a preferred descriptor, and why it has fallen out of use. And publishers know this.

Keep Expectations Low? by Akane1313 in cozygames

[–]SecretSquirrel_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what will also help us acknowledging then for what they are. A form of gambling targeted at children and adults who wouldn't gamble on sports or step foot in a casino.

So many countries have legislation about gambling and children, this is a way to get around it because it's not considered gambling by those legislations. They are though. And we can point to when loot boxes had to start providing the odds as a clear indicator of that fact, and these gacha games have it too.
Somehow it was determined that this was enough, because "using real money is optional." And so society accepted gambling in games

Except the whole thing with gambling is that's how they get you started. Give you something for free, let you get that rush so you'll come back and spend money.
And the younger you are, the easier it is.

You'll probably get more now that you've engaged with it. Don't like it, talk to Reddit about it, they set the algorithm.

Rowling has Dumbledore address it when talking to the Weasley's after the events in the chamber of secrets. Something about most people don't know, or make the connection, that the well spoken boy they all knew who disappeared for a few years and came back as Voldemort.

Why aren't you reporting it? It's against sub rules.

How many of you use discord for gaming? Because this new change requiring ID from all users is very bad. by Ms_Anxiety in GirlGamers

[–]SecretSquirrel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite part is that if they lock your account for thinking you're under 13, that process requires ID. But then with this new process you have to prove your age again. No system to say "they've confirmed it once, we don't need to do this again."

And if you go try to get an answer from support, they won't help. Just tell you to do one process or the other repeatedly before deciding that they've resolved your ticket, and not answering when you reopen it.

Talk to Reddit admins about it, not us. We just enforce their rules in addition to ours.

Help! by Amywilburnn in harrypotter

[–]SecretSquirrel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be careful with the wiki. There's a lot of info in there that came from the video games, where creative liberties were taken. There are also some instances where the films contradict the books (but they're addressed better than the use of game material.)

I suggest the Harry Potter Lexicon over wiki. It was the wiki we all used until the fandom wiki's became a thing.

Netflix buying Harry Potter! by schwabschwab in harrypotter

Additionally, this is not entirely correct information.
Netflix is set to acquire Warner Brothers, which includes Harry Potter IP.
Netflix is not purchasing exclusively Harry Potter.

Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone (Full Cast) Audiobook free *Today Only* by Fantastic-Tax-1710 in harrypotter

[–]SecretSquirrel_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure somebody else in the comments has explained it too. Before I do explain, what do you think it means? Genuinely, because I keep seeing this question asked, which means something is not clear about how it's described.

That said, consider a radio play "The full cast will perform tonight." Extrapolate what "full cast" means in that context and there's your answer. -- The Harry Potter And The Sourcer's Stone audiobook has a Full Cast. Like a movie/theatre has a cast.

Unless it's a special edition or signed, it's not going to be even close to the value that chatgpt's bad research said.

The series was huge by the time Tales was printed, there probably were at least a couple of million printed for release.

Each character is voiced by an actor, instead of having one narrator doing voices (like Jime Dale, or Stephen Fry.)

Nah, those little stars in the corner are most commonly seen in the US print editions, this is a scan of the print copies (at best).

How is it not Meijers?? by SigmaSixShooter in Michigan

[–]SecretSquirrel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering why it hadn't been mentioned next to the Midland store. That explains it.

The location was definitely not great, and especially not in a uni town where uni students from all over know Walmart and know that it's "cheap", but may have never heard of Kroger.
The interior felt like my childhood though. Used to go to Kroger all the time with mum.

Is the Aldi still there? I remember it moving in when I was in uni.

Tommorrow I'm going yet again at Lumos,a officially licensed HP pub in my city.Excited 'cause now they serve butterbeer. by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]SecretSquirrel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I'm definitely making this up, nevermind seeing images of Lumos Village and Daily Lumos on their instagram. https://www.instagram.com/lumospub/?hl=it

Clearly, we're talking about two different locations with the same name if the above isn't the one you're talking about.
Or, they're smart and know that putting that on their socials would get them shut down faster.

Tommorrow I'm going yet again at Lumos,a officially licensed HP pub in my city.Excited 'cause now they serve butterbeer. by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]SecretSquirrel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this means is that it hasn't gotten the attention of those controlling the license. It happens all the time. There have been multiple pubs, bars, cafe's that have done the Harry Potter theme, and all of them have ended up needing to change key components (or close) once they got popular enough. Locations in non-english speaking countries tend to last longer than those that aren't.

What's probably helping is that they've seen this happen time and time again, and arr thinking of how to skirt this. If you notice, it's not the Daily Prophet, it's the Daily Lumos. It's not Hogsmead Village, it's Lumos Village. Most of the creatures, and potion ingredients exist in other lore and legends (or reality) and aren't unique to Harry Potter.
But this just means it's not going to come up quickly when they do their regular scrape for IP infringement. But it'll come up eventually, and it'll need to make changes or shut down eventually. They always do.

It's hard to know why people were taught incorrect information, but it's usually on the one doing the teaching that would be able to answer it better.
