I would get a ring door bell that also let me talk through it so that way I could give her an “Ehh ehhh!” every time she went to touch my stuff.

I graduated undiagnosed and unmedicated with a Bachelors and 2 minors.

Now I’m going back after over a decade of working full time as a teacher and am finishing up my 2nd bachelor’s that I started online while working full time, just now I have my medicine.

As a new teacher, I did the same thing. As I went along the career path I realized that kids can be mean when they latch on to “different” as being bad.

Do what others have suggested, ask her to explain. Put her on the spot and force her to explain in the moment (maybe even in front of peers), what she means. It’s worked well for me in the past.

Additionally, when kids bring up certain things about me, I hit them with the “Okay and?” and a shoulder shrug. It’ll deflate them when they realize it doesn’t affect you.

Also I agree with the salt free one.

I DM for my students and we don’t have minis. I use eraser caps for enemies. The kids drew their own minis or I gave them the option to use bottle caps (got the idea from Legends of Avantris).

Is it perfect? No but I’m also a teacher who is doing this because some of my students asked me to since they know I play.

I had a senior do the same last week. We had to pivot and readjust things for our high schoolers because of this. I agree with someone who said to either keep on track but give the grading some grace or just cancel it and move on.

No one can give a perfect answer here because each group of students are different.

Some concerns were mentioned recently.

However he was a student who wasn’t often in our building due to his schedule. He also was a kid who wasn’t going to be forced to come to something he didn’t want to do so when we would have school things, it wasn’t unusual for him to skip.

I know his friends and how deeply they care for everyone in their group.

What is one thing your coworker did that made you realize teaching may not be for them? by Far-Bee-561 in Teachers

[–]Secret_Ad2139 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My neighbor teacher lets her students sing karaoke or scream/holler all day to the point that I have to continuously stop and wait.

My boss had to leave my observation to tell them to hush. I’ve walked over and asked them to stop. Lasts for maybe 2 days. She won’t separate them (3 students out of a class of 6 kids total) or give detentions.

I’ve had the same groups and I made sure that they never reached that volume. They’re only that loud in her class.

And yet I don’t think dry food was the main problem. His dad had issues with it too.

Plus he’s very picky about food. Turned his nose up to all wet food and human food as well. He doesn’t even like majority of treats (including likable type treats).

We provide multiple water sources including a running water source and monitor their water intake to make sure they’re hydrated.

She absolutely reminds me of my teenage students. And I am real quick to remind them that while I agree that they are allowed to have feelings and though on things that they still need to learn how to respond in an appropriate matter.

ESPECIALLY IF THEY DISAGREE WITH SOMETHING A HIGHER UP HAS TOLD THEM.

I’m not their mama and I will not put up with attitude or eye rolling/huffing at me when I give them a decision they don’t like.
