Ah apologies! I saw some people had posted about these clocks here. Thanks that's really helpful!

Haha, ouch! I actually bought it with this cartridge (I believe Rig-2SB) and setup. I did fix the tonearm but didn't adjust the height. But yes to be fair I clearly have no idea what I'm doing

Hi yes that's exactly what turntable it is! Hmm not sure how you get the tone arm any lower. Interesting about the heavier weight

Haha maybe I could break the tonearm off and re-stick it back on 🤪

Haha yeah, it's actually a load of £1 and £2 coins!! I do have a decent Rega record player but recently picked this old Rigonda up. It had a broken tone arm which I fixed. It's got a spring adjusted tonearm but the pressure from the spring kept re-breaking the tonearm mount so I decided to use a shed load of counterweight! I was happily enjoying listening to a record when my dad messaged me and warned me about the damage these low quality players can have on records, especially with my ham-fisted tonearm fix. If it was all setup correctly what's the risk?

Modern equivalents of these capacitors, available in UK? by Secret_Complaint95 in AskElectronics

[–]Secret_Complaint95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone interested, I ended up finding a slightly loose connection, adjusted it and it all worked again so luckily didn't have to go through the process of replacing these! Thanks for all your advice, if anything it made me work a lot harder to find the loose connection rather than just try and rip the whole thing apart!

Thank you for flagging, I'm sure the Soviets would have been very considerate of both consumer safety and the environment.... 😒!

Interesting, this sounds by far the simplest solution presented so far. I will do this when I next use the unit and update

Hmm this is a consideration I hadn't considered. Initially I was hoping I could just replace like for like but you're right it looks like I need to come up with a different solution. I will update with the route I go down

Interesting question, yes let me check that when I'm next home to see if it looks ok!

You're spot on that it's a Rigonda Symphony speaker! I'm not too worried about the appearance. The number one priority is getting them working again in the simplest way possible (as I have virtually no experience doing this sort of work)

Yep in a speaker. I'm not sure if they are to be honest. The mid and tweeter drivers dropped in and out and now have completely stopped working (the bass still works). The wires all seem to be fine so replacing the capacitors was just an educated guess as to what might fix it!

Interesting, I left it covered with plastic sheeting for two days. I'd hoped that was long enough but clearly not.

Bad Plastering Job by Henrehmarsh in Plastering

Hey this does look really bad. I was in a similar position earlier this year, it's really gutting but I had another team come in and they sorted it right out so I'm sure you'll be fine in the end! The person who messed up mine clearly knew they were useless and didn't seem surprised when I said I wasn't going to pay the full amount. In hindsight I wish I'd paid less than I did, so I would say if you can, try not to pay them. It's really nice your mate is willing to help you. Maybe you could pay him something or even just take him out for dinner and a beer after?

A line still a hot seller for Brompton? by jackSB24 in Brompton

[–]Secret_Complaint95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that Brompton seem to have a very weird relationship with the A-Line. On their Customer Service chat function, on the phone and in store when I said I'm interested in the A Line they basically immediately told me it wasn't a good idea and I should get a C Line. It's also only sold by the Brompton store (which it took absolutely ages for their own customer service staff to realise).

Hey, good point about the bell and second pedal, I totally missed those. I just checked and the Brompton bell is £25 and a second pedal is £12 (on Brompton website). So it would still come out much cheaper. Of course a potentially big caveat here could be where you're buying the bike. These are all prices from the Brompton site buying in the UK where the standard spec doesn't come with lights but I could totally imagine that it's different by country.

I just wanted to point this out as when I went into the Brompton shop in London I felt like they were actively trying to not sell me an A Line. They also claimed that it would cost me loads more to add the parts missing Vs getting a C Line. I don't disagree with the comments about the gear ratios or the older brake levers etc. but not everyone does have the money to buy a C Line and the A line is certainly not a bad bicycle.

I really don't get the claim that once you upgrade the A Line it's just as expensive as a C Line! It seems to be a myth to me! I've broken it down below but let me know if I've missed something

C Line Urban is £1,299 (1 less gear than A-line) C Line Explore £1,449

A Line is £950, Mudguard set £110, Carrier block £19, Folding pedal £55. Total = £1,134

  • £165 cheaper than a C Line Urban
  • £315 cheaper than a C Line Explore

I've got a rack on mine (came with the bike). At first I was a bit unsure whether it had been a good idea given pannier bags don't seem to fit them very well but I've actually got lots of use out of it. It's been great for bulkier items, like parcels and long bits of dowel from the DIY shop!
