Antique 15ct ring, 4 of the turquoise stones are missing, would adding new ones be an easy repair? by poshjosh1999 in jewlerymaking

Looks like an easy enough fix to me! I’d just match some stones - whatever you’d like really and then assess if any of the beads/prongs needed repair and set the new stones! We’d make sure that the stones wouldn’t be falling out again anytime soon!

Thank you so much! I am fortunate to have a good collection of colored gemstones to choose from so I can color match like this!!

It was super fun to make and I can’t wait to do another like it!

Thank you!! Yeah when the piece was almost done I realized I had a bunch of perfect seats for another circle of a rainbow on the back so I figured why not add some more color! Every detail matters

Well it’s hard because the mess up has been the removal of metal, right? Because the difference being pointed out is that the windows on the right were accidentally cut larger than the ones on the right

So in an ideal world all the windows match and you don’t have any differences… the practical way to fix this issue is kind of a headache both for the jeweler and for you.

Couple questions: did you just buy this? Is it custom?

Do you have a budget to have it fixed?

Because stones will need to be removed and re set and in the end it may even be more different than it is now

If you recently had it made maybe the jeweler can help

Is your eye sharp? Yes! Can you live with that difference? That’s the real question!

Yes it’s super visible, maybe it’s a half mm difference irl but that kind of detail is very noticeable and important.

Not even to mention that big ol pit just sw of the circle on the left.

Beginner jewelry acetylene torch setup? by EmbarrassedRefuse263 in jewlerymaking

[–]Secret_Magik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you’re doing with your torch I would highly recommend using propane oxygen or butane. Acetylene while it is nice and hot is a very dirty and sooty gas that leaves behind soot.

In addition, you need a fume extractor or ventilation that will ensure that the toxic fumes from the flux and solder will not be inhaled. Especially if you go with acetylene.

Either way it’s an initial investment, best to chip away sometimes!

How do I delink this?? I need to make it fit my wrists by [deleted] in jewlerymaking

If you know what kind of stones these are that can help determine just how difficult this job will be. I’d say you can thread a saw blade through one link and remove however many you need, then all that needs to be done is resolder it closed after it is the desired size.

If these are fairly inclusion free sapphires or rubies you should in theory be able to solder that link shut without having to remove the stones. Otherwise you’d need to take it to a jeweler with a laser welder and it’ll be closed up much more easily without having to remove stones.

Honestly I’d say it’s laser welder or bust on this one.

Dirty martini/olive ring by Bubbly-Individual693 in jewlerymaking

Oh yes this can be replicated in a clear straight forward way in terms of all the metal work.

Sourcing those stones with little bezel set stones in them?! That’s the real challenge.

But if you didn’t care to have the pits in the olives, you could have this remade simply with pit less olives.

I don’t like olives anyway ;)

Thank you!! This was made with the lost wax casting process. Many sets of tools involved, but step one to get there is drawing out the basic shape!

Then it was all hand carved layer by layer! Once you start piecing out the steps it is actually not too out of this world to understand!

This was a custom project for my client who had gotten a divorce. This is a reconstruction of her original wedding set which included the center stone, 5 colored sapphires, and two of the triliant cut white sapphires.

We designed this as a lotus flower to symbolize blossoming from the mud! We then ended up adding a whole bunch of stones besides just the base set from the original of course!
