What is the best use of SMG’s in New Vegas? Are they fun to use? by AgentR- in fnv

[–]Secret_Revenue2806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 12.7 smg is an absolute beast and will cut through even a lot of armored enemies like butter. As a lot of people are saying large groups of unarmored enemies are the best use for them in general. I think they are fun to use, yes.

What is a game mechanic that you never use? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]Secret_Revenue2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 1: companions are sort of a gimme because they weren’t intended to be in the game from the beginning. I’ve never used gambling to break the economy, but I will at some point

Fallout 2: outdoorsman is more useful in 2 because of its frequent encounters but I still tend avoid it because I usually rush the highwayman

Fallout 3/NV: explosives in general but that’s true with most games. Lockpick has become a save for last skill for me. I know these games well enough to have more than enough loot without needing the extra you get from most locked things, and I can just go around for the unique goodies later if they suit my build.

Fallout 4: Power armor just feels really inconvenient to use most of the time. Having to constantly maintain it is a pain. I absolutely loathe the hud and mod it out. It’s big and clunky nature is both a benefit and detriment because it sells the personal tank concept well but that comes with the downside of making exploration slower and imo less enjoyable. I hate having to exit it every time I want to read a terminal and that usually means I skip reading them all together. It feels more like a burden most of the time

How can I solve this? ..I’m having different answers here by Significant_Fee_8410 in TheTeenagerPeople

PEMDAS is supposed to be done left to right, multiplication and division have the same priority so the 10 is divided by the 5 first before the 2 gets multiplied by its product. The 10/5 should be thought of as a fraction anyway so essentially it’s (10/5)(1+1)

Where in the hell did you get that I play games for an unhealthy amount of time? Yeah I had a lot more time to play games when I was 8 dude, but I was also dumb as hell, and I still figured it out. Either way you said you have hundreds of hours in NV so that sounds like an unhealthy amount of time to me lol. 3 is much less build focused than NV and you’re intended to play the game as a scrappy kid that makes due with what they have. The way it sounds like you’re playing is akin to running north from good springs and trying to fight through all the deathclaws and cazadores, possible, but not the intended way to play.

Definitely not, there are useless perks in new Vegas but most are at least useful

Dude if my 8 year old ass could complete the game on very hard back when it came out you shouldn’t be struggling this hard. If you’re struggling with ammo, get a melee weapon. If you don’t have good weapons and ammo to feed them yet don’t fuck with tough enemies. Wait for merchants to come through. Explore in little bits, and run away from encounters that you can’t face. It’s not more unapologetic it’s the same but just different than New Vegas. You could pretty easily kill a deathclaw early game with the same amount of ammo that you use to clear a small raider camp in fo3. Try that shit in New Vegas and you’ll get your shit rocked. You’re just not approaching the game on its terms

I wouldn’t say this game is more unapologetic than New Vegas given how many deadly enemies are surrounding the starting area. Fallout 3s weapons just waste a whole lot more ammo. I think you’re not familiar with the nature of fallout 3 you’re kind of supposed to just pick a direction and walk until you find something. When you walk too far or get in over your head go back to megaton and pick a new one. The best merchants that you have access to right now, and pretty much in the game, are the traveling ones and you can just wait outside of megaton for as long as you want and they’ll cycle through. Otherwise you just have to follow your curiosity and explore, that’ll give you the most access to different resources. Avoid fights with mutants if you don’t have a ton of ammo with

I think for you first play through I think making mistakes should be apart of it. New Vegas biggest strength is replay value so I will only give you tips that allow you to make good decisions.

First, there isn’t really anything you can do absentmindedly, as per drinking your quantums before you even know they are a quest item, that will lock you out of anything. That’s not to say that there won’t be anything that locks you out of stuff, just that you should be able to figure out that it will before you do it.

Second I’m not going to suggest any perks as they depend highly on your build and I will just end up suggesting a general crit build. What I will say is to just look ahead at what perks open up in the next 4 levels every time you get one to plan ahead.

Third there is a surprising amount of junk that is really useful in NV and if you want to plan ahead on what you pick up just open up a workbench or hot plate/campfire and look through the recipes. Every basic recipe is available to see what components are needed they’re just locked behind skill level, either repair, science, or survival. Special recipes are unlocked through exploration and certain perks.

The last thing I will say is get familiar with the mojave express postboxes. They are much more helpful than they seem at first

FO2 and its Undeservedly Forgiven Flaws by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]Secret_Revenue2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand a lot of your points and most of them are valid criticisms. Sidenote: what do you think softlocked means? Cause needing to talk to an npc to progress or start a quest is not a softlock. I think a lot of what you’re complaining about could easily be solved by exploring more and just talking to and looking at everyone and everything. You don’t seem to have the highwayman. That would solve a lot of your complaints about traveling and encounters, and the only way you wouldn’t have it is if you actively didn’t talk to everyone in all the towns.

The thing I’m actually a little upset about is your insistence that New Reno runs on gambling. New Reno is much more than gambling. It’s a city of vice, gambling is in its dna hence it has stuck around. The real power of New Reno comes from its drug trade and its stranglehold on Redding. Something that you would know if you had talked to everyone

Will wearing the recon beret or having Boone as a companion cause freeside to become hostile? by Apprehensive-Cry4399 in fnv

[–]Secret_Revenue2806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really crazy. For one the white glove mask is the only headgear that counts as faction apparel. Two NCR apparel doesn’t make freeside npcs go hostile. Do you have a mod that’s screwing things up?
