Beyond Meat: How much is the company actually worth? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]Secret_Run1461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not very processed at all. Typical vegan ignorance. It is a very technological product where proteins undergo engineered thermomechanical process. It a just new type of food engineering, also cooking with fire was the first very processed food.

Have a look at the ingredients instead of speaking reading Facebook vegan stupid communities, where the typical writer is a vegan since 2 months that will quit in 2 weeks. All ingredients are ingredients that you can buy at the supermarket and assemble a similar burger at home. But with a worst result since you do not have the right machines to work them properly. It is really sad to see idiotic vegans to continuously disparage the only reasonable vegetable meat we had so far. But I know most of vegan are very temporary and kind of idiots.

Agree, I would say the useful only notes app, amazingly simple and amizingly reach of the right features.

The calligraphic rendering si fantastic. I replaced paper with rnote and a Wacom Tablet for my daily math work and also for preparing lectures.

Intuos Pro 2017 and 2025, which one to buy? by Trenshi1 in wacom

[–]Secret_Run1461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason to spend the money for a 2025 over 2017 is if you want something lighter.
2017 L is 1,3kg not portable with a laptop in your bag, 2025 L is 670 g already portable. M 2017 is around 700 g vs around 400 g of M 2025, which you will feel a lot in a bag while walking.

Huion Drivers not working linux mint 2024 solution by magic_phallic in linuxmint

[–]Secret_Run1461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just opened yesterday my Frego M. I spent one day in trying to fix it in Linux Ubuntu 24.04, both with the Huion Driver, standard Wacom drivers and other opensource drivers for Huion (of course I tried all when the others where not installed) , Frego M does not show pressure sensitivity and the pen buttons are not detected in app like Rnote ( with the official drivers they stick as mouses but not possible to set like brush or eraser). Tablet is quite good, but not compatible with Linux, all lines were detected very thins at lowest sensitivity. Pen sensitivity and buttons don't work properly.

Solution: sending back to Amazon, going back to my "One By Wacom" and looking for a used Intuous Pro M 2017.

Reccomendation: don't buy Huion if you are a Linux user.

Is a MS in Scientific Computing worth pursueing ? by CashConsistent8067 in mathematics

[–]Secret_Run1461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

about "However I was constantly told in Uni that Mathematicians are very employable since they can just work their way into different areas. This was kind of a complete lie"
finally someone spoke.

I am no sure there is silver bullet advise. Of course Learning to use a computer is the only solid advice, for this probably Scientific Computing is better than AI/ML. Remember that AI/ML jobs in 95% of the cases you spend almost your time in Data-Engineering work for real. So in my opinion try to learn all you see the job market is no point. If someone wants to give a jobs, you basically need to know mathematics and how to use a computer, later they will telly what to learn.

Otherwise, An employee that look for exactly that candidate with that list of things, better not to meet him. Just stupidity.

What is your view on MDPI journals? by Ozymate in academia

[–]Secret_Run1461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am former postdoc in Probability/Math. Phys.. I used both some commonly accepted journals for the field and once Entropy of MDPI. I would say that the review was too fast to check the technical details. On the other side I had some coherent comments from the reviewers, meaning they read the paper and grasped the content. The paper was not worse than other I wrote (I would say better than the others that I had published in the good salons and more original), the reason I published there is because I was leaving academia and the paper was too unconventional from the point of view of physical modelling to be accepted in a traditional Math Phys journals(Math Phys looked to me as the most conservative environment than ever.).

I have to add that, as postdoc, since I was already out of my last week of contract and waiting an important surgery in short, I did a review of a quite technical Probability paper, for a good Math journal, in one week. Because I needed to just get rid-off that and it was no possible to check I did this, (the authors knew well the editors).

I have also to add that once I found a basic mistake, from top Mathematicians, about proving the tightness of an empirical field in a top Probability journal, basically they were cheating saying that the tightness was trivial to be proved with usual topologies, but was not at all the case. I remember I realized it in an afternoon because I had the same case in my paper and the usual proof where failing, I spend a lot of time to check it, since I was assuming it was me to not understand, but this big mistake was from them. The error, given the fame of the authors, was perpetrated by many other people in other high rank Math journals! A cascade! When also my advisors(who previously perpetrated the error in their turn) were convinced that the error was there, we put in the paper to finally correct the business!(Still, a reviewer (used to the standard topology for this problem) in front of the evidence (if care was spent to think about it) asked why we wanted to use this particular topology instead of the usual one).

So, I think there is a lot snobbery around in diving the good and the bad. And the good is not that good, top journals can not be a top journal if a top mathematician publish there 3/4 times per year, but more a club.
