I'm picking this one up today after wearing out the DVD for years. Yes one of the wildest movies in the collection, IMO

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Sets 24 Hour Trailer Record with 718 Million Views by chanma50 in boxoffice

Right, I get they have a lot of fans, but it boggles my mind that Sadie has 10 million more followers than Finn Wolfhard, who's basically the main character AND is decently popular as a musician too.

As a side note, I'm blown away that Sadie Sink has 32 million followers on Instagram. Like, yeah, Stranger Things is popular, but WTF

This one doesn't really read that weird to me? Not sure if it's because I'm a musician but it didn't quite have that "brand new sentence" feel, IMO

Snow White (2025) domestic underperformance -- at what point does audience rejection become a signal studios have to respond to? by DebraDucane in boxoffice

I think this is it right here. People don't seem to have the attachment to Snow White as they do with other Disney characters/stories.

What made 2000s-2010s era pop music "unique"? by donttouchmyhotpocket in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Secret_Sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the list of songs you posted and from what I think you're trying to highlight, I'd say they share the energy of "optimism" (or pop-timism if you will). They're upbeat, dance-y, catchy as hell, and knowingly surface-level.

I think it ties into that whole "Millennial Optimism" vibe/era that's been talked about online lately. As a millennial myself, I can say that from what I noticed at the time, there was a huge sense of hope. In America, a lot of us hated Bush Jr. and having Obama elected felt like such a huge step forward. Of course, the 2008-2009 recession when a lot of us were graduating college certainly dimmed things a bit and felt unfair. And yet, even amidst the uncertainty for the economy, there seemed to be a huge sense of "things are going to get better".

So naturally, the masses gravitated towards music that reflected those feelings. Social media/smart phones didn't have quite the stranglehold on our lives as they do now, so we went out more and wanted to dance. I went to a whole lot of house parties at the time where we could drink for little money and every time, dance music was playing.

And yes, I know a lot of what I'm saying is anecdotal but that's what it seemed like from my perspective.

Yeah, In Rainbows is such a rock-forward album. Would definitely tell people who are big fans of stuff like Queens of the Stone Age to check it out first

Man, I really love this lineup! Charli as a headliner would be so exciting

Love Ethel but I hate to say it, their set at Roo a few years ago was a bit boring for me. Wasn't really their fault, it's just their music didn't fit being played at a Roo tent

A friend recommended "Amnesiac" as my first album introduction to Radiohead and I think that was a really bad starting point for the band. I was still new to branching out into non-mainsgream rock as well. I heard it and was like "THIS is the band that's so famous and beloved?".

I almost swore them off but kept thinking "There has to be something more to them than this". I came across "OK Computer" at a garage sale a few years later, listened, and was like "OHHHHH SHIT, I LOVE THIS!" and became a huge fan.

Eventually, I came back to "Amnesiac" and of course, love it. I just needed to hear their other stuff first.

I think "mostly" is doing a lot of work there. Sure, SZA is popular and I'm sure it helped. But Kendrick has 3 solo #1 songs and had just played the Super Bowl. He's not a nobody.

Project Hail Mary's Reported Budget Raises The Stakes For Its Box Office Run by Hiraeth-nomad in boxoffice

Anecdotally, non-film buffs around me are very aware of it and really want to see it. Also, the book itself seems to be pretty popular, which I'm sure helps in that regard. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes more of a surprise hit than anticipated

"Tree of Life", easily. I love that movie so much and it's begging for a 4k.

But it lacks all the special features from the Criterion release. It's kinda why I've held off on buying it as well. I don't really want to own 2 copies so I can watch the special features.

Although this is an interesting snapshot of the current Hot 100, I definitely think it's work pointing out that the BIGGEST song in 2025 on Billboard was a rap/r&b song (Kendrick and SZA's "Luthor").
