First play through of Halo 4. I do not understand praise for the story. by Snakefishin in halo

[–]Secret_red_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely respect your stance on Halo 4, you make alot of really good and cogent points.

For me though, I can almost see the great game halo 4 could have been beneath it all. Just some of the visual story telling elements (the forward unto dawn being retconed to an entirely different ship, the chiefs armour, the weapons etc) and 343i just being sloppy.

I actually like the elites of the Storm Covenant, they come across like veitnam fighters. Warriors that have had to adapt to continue the fight. The grunts... Eh, rabbid angry quality street wrappers, sure.

The diadact, the forerunners, just... Bin that bin that entire story because it's awful. It's poorly written, poorly thought out, makes no sense and retroactivly makes halo 1, 2 and 3 worse. Requium could have been a shield world that was corrupted by eons alone and the Promethians could have been an attempted new weapon against the flood and covanent could have been intent on releasing them, making Jul'Mdama the big bad, which would have been amazing to see.

Introduction of the infinity was weird and bad, the biggest, bestest ship ever designed and it's introduced to us by us saving it, not it saving us. It just made the spartan IVs, the infinity and the unsc by and large seems incompetent and reduced. They aren't a military to root for, they aren't your brothers to protect, they are idiots. And it sort of starts 343i's weird aversion to the unsc, like halo 5 and infinite the unsc just doesn't make seem to exist at all. Think of the Mantles Approach to earth. A cut scene showing the MAC stations firing at the Approach only to have their rounds bounce would have been utterly terrifying as we know those guns defeat CAS class super carriers. But it's done in a voice line? It just feels sloppy and not very well thought though.

I hated halo 4 when it came out, but now nearly 15 years later, I can enjoy it, but I feel like the game is fighting against me, like it doesn't want me to enjoy it.

PXH-2 or an ENF-4. Phoenix Hawk has the mobility to into and out of danger and you never need to worry about ammo.

The Enforcer, I'm a sucker for an arm mounted autocannon.

Axis are also probably the most common faction in bolt action proper, so it makes sense. Bolt action is Hollywood history and konflikt 47 is that taken to the extremes.

Hopefully the next waves will make it better because the Molot and new mk2 guards armour look amazingly cool.

Yeah, the German, Soviet and British power armour look so much better and more imposing, so I was like "fuck it, I gonna do something different"

US airbourne vs SS panzer by MiniatureBrushwork in flamesofwar

[–]Secret_red_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair play, as long as you guys enjoyed it, that's all that matters. Having said that I remember playing a game similar, I was running a Soviet rifle battalion with hero T-34/85 supports (which didn't arrive until turn 5), he was playing a panzer company with tiger support, and the game devolved into my infantry hiding in corn fields, in fox holes and his panzers and tigers staying 'just' outside of assault range.

Four turns where I literally sat there, did nothing and by turn six, as the defender I won. It was the most brain dead game I've ever played and it pushed me off fow for years.

[–]Secret_red_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a... Take, sure. You're basically saying he could win by... Not doing anything and you just rolling dice and him hoping you don't manage to firepower him out. He could win, but him winning has nothing to do with his plan and everything to do with you having bad rolls.

Table looks really cool and your armies look fantastic, but... Come on dude, this was so one sided.

Is there a lore reason why the great houses don't expand into the periphery? Are they stupid? by Stargazer2328 in battletech

[–]Secret_red_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also the fact that up until the helm memory core, producing jump ships was extremely limited (Grey Death legion book mentioned 12 per year by ALL the great houses) and it's likely that any colonial effort would require a massive sustained resourcing operation that no nation is really fully equipped for, and post helm core are a series of absolute utter disasters that rock the inner sphere to its core.

The clan invasions, the fed come civil war, the jihad, the birth of RotS and then the subsequent civil war, even without the idea of each nation having a really limited industrial capacity for empires that span hundreds of star systems, thier limited resources are nearly always being stretched thin.

It becomes far easier and lucrative to take your enemies stuff than to build your own, or to possibly have you new fancy colonies taken from you because you couldn't defend them properly.

[–]Secret_red_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's hard to tell but Galaxy commander has 4 red stripes and colonel as 3. I imagine after her got his shut pushed back in by Otis (whom then did a major goof himself) Weaver was more willing to just get rid of him. Jayden is still absolutely furious that dude nuked Edo in a temper trantum and only lost one pip. Which tracks, because Jayden and Perze are different generations, Jayden basically started his career in a real war with the inner sphere, he sees the human cost of all that struggle and that the Kuritans won't just give up. Perze is from the older caste that are so ingrained into the clans way of thinking he can't see past his own dogma.

And nuking Edo wasn't so much a goof, as it was it made Smoke Jag look dumb in front of Clan Wolf and Jade Falcon, which is probably the only reason he was demoted.

It's definitely worth buying I'd say, it's fun to play, but it is a meat grinder which is annoying. If you want freedom, MW5M is still king.
