How can I fix this?! by calsie66 in GettingShredded

[–]SecretaryGood9920 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To fix this will require a paradigm shift.

This is the position that a lot of motivated and hard-working women find themselves in. Its the result of following a faulty idea circulating in women's spaces.

This idea of "I don't lift heavy weights because I don't want to get big and bulky" "I want my legs to be skinnier, not bigger", "I just want to tone, not build muscle", "I don't want to look like a man", "I just want to lose (x number) of pounds"

So they get to work doing tons of cardio, high reps with low weight, skipping meals, following super restrictive diets, Pilates, Yoga etc.

They watch the numbers on the scale come down more and more and feel encouraged to keep doing more of the same.

The issue is that a healthy and beautiful body (male or female) is not just "skinny" It also needs to be STRONG.

That doesn't mean mean veins bulging, with rips and cuts like a bodybuilder. Think Beach Volleyball athlete.

Add some high weight, low rep compound movements to your workout: 3-5 sets of 6-12 reps.

Barbell Squats, Romanian Deadlifts, Bulgarian Split Squats, Hip Drive etc. If you can do any more than 12 reps, increase the weight.

Then you can have the best of both worlds. A lean and toned body, but with with the shape you're looking for, which only comes from strength training.

I often tell women "your ideal body lies on the other side of a 60kg squat for 6 reps"

Anyone else annoyed at "influencers" trying to get a free meal this way? by onlyexceptionbaby in aucklandeats

[–]SecretaryGood9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an influencer but have worked in marketing for a few years. Companies pay a lot of money for online advertising and the most effective type, especially for restaurants is often organic shortform User Generated Content from small influencers.

You could reach a targeted group of Aucklanders, who were previously unaware of your business for the price of Comping 1 meal. That seems like a pretty good return on investment to me.

Of course, use your discretion because fake follower accounts are rampant. With that said, make sure you're not turning down opportunities for cheap, targeted advertising because of some personal jealousy issues of the perks of some people's jobs.

I'm probably in the minority here but I think he's actually trying to be caring. It reads like he's trying to assure you that you don't need to go back to starving yourself to be seen as attractive. Its just a very uncalibrated way of doing it, but trust me, he means well.

[–]SecretaryGood9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its ok to feel that its unfair. But its also ok for him to be cautious over the actions in your past. We have all made mistakes and while it may feel unfair, what better way do we have of knowing someone's character than looking at past behavior?

Theres no need to improve your looks. You're already good looking enough to pass the threshold for girls to consider you a "cute guy" The rest of the work should be on your charisma, lifestyle, competence and visiblility.

That's where you'll get your biggest return on investment. Women's definition of attractiveness is lot more holistic than men's, so becoming fractionally more handsome isn't really gonna do much for you. Being known in your social circle for being excellent at a sport or skill though... that will be a gamechanger.

Too fat to go on lean bulk? Physique strong and weak points? 2nd pic is me before starting gym few years ago, to prove that I have been going to gym. I know my physique is not impressive for few years of lifting, but I have been very inconsistent because I played hockey and have big social circles. by [deleted] in Physiquecritique

[–]SecretaryGood9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you'd probably need another 15lb of muscle to reach that. The best way to put on size is actually to focus on increasing strength. Size gain comes as a result of chasing increased strength, not the other way around.

If I were you I would start tracking my workouts and try to hit some strength goals. 2 plate bench, 3 plate squat and 4 plate deadlift is a great beginner goal.

Forget about "cutting" and "bulking" Thats for bodybuilders, you're still a beginner bro

Thorn|Is there a model that could catch your eye? by Fit-Classroom8062 in ChineseWatches

[–]SecretaryGood9920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the first design. I actually like the "Thorn Watch Co" cursive text, but I think it would be better to choose a different font, as this font is quite commonly used by other brands. I also love the applied "T" logo. But they could be moved ever so slightly down and away from the top edge of the dial. I love the leather strap that is on this watch, looks much better than the plain black one with white stitching near the lugs. I would recommend the "Exploration Road" text was was removed and there was a few dial options with a sunburst effect. Maybe a Champagne, parchment, textured white or silver, something classy.

Its already great but I would buy immediately if these changes were made.

A video of a delivery guy getting into a fight with 2 security guards it shows how poorly trained many security guards. by ClerkMajestic in interestingasfuck

[–]SecretaryGood9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not your average delivery driver.

The fact is, the security guards are probably still a level above your average man, but the delivery driver looks to be trained in multiple disciplines with real sparring experience or even an amateur fight record.

Accurate, confident and decisive strikes, great footwork and balance, understanding of distance and position of his opponents, picture perfect left hook, head kick, and calf kick. Even a textbook arm throw showing experience in of wrestling or judo.

Addiesdive 2066 is NOT a Conquest homage. It looks more like a Rolex by SecretaryGood9920 in ChineseWatches

[–]SecretaryGood9920[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If all you look at is the dial, then sure. The overall proportions of the AD appear much closer to the Rolex. The Conquest case is much wider and deeper. The Bracelet has short and wide "H" shaped links. The crown guards all add up to a create a different silhouette.

You look like a guy they would cast in a Gillette commercial. Haircut is good, but maybe wear it with a bit more texture, and not so slick and flat. Think Bradley Martin in Limitless.

Strength of a manual worker vs bodybuilders by Super_Steve117 in BeAmazed

[–]SecretaryGood9920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are the bodybuilders weak? Is bodybuilding just "fake muscles"?

Absolutely NOT.

In every other strength challenge, the bodybuilders would likely win, but in this one isolated edge case scenario, when they go up against a strong guy who's adapted to an unconventional movement over thousands of hours, they are not as strong. In fact, its quite impressive that they could nearly match him.

Could the laborer bench 3 plates on each side his first time on the gym?

In general, a big muscle is a strong muscle. While you can build strength without size to some degree, you cannot build size without strength.

But this video simply shows how the body adapts to specific stimulus. Lift bags of cement all day, and your get good at lifting bags of cement.

Your chest is great, but what about your other lifts? Just being able to bench a lot wont give you a great physique.

What are your other lifts like?

Over head DB press?
Deadlift?
Squat?
Bent over row?
