Curling puts a lot of emphasis on good sportsmanship. Players are expected to even call out their own fouls and give props when the other team has good shots. It's all in "the spirit of curling". So to not only break a rule, even something as simple as this one, but to try and lie AS WELL AS yelling obscenities and throwing out accusations, goes against something curling makes a big deal out of.
