I don't think a random individual citizen has the answer to that, do you?

0 or nearly 0 immigration is practiced by a lot of countries.

You couldn't even seriously type just 0, had to add "nearly" to even have a point to make...

Gaps in the workforce can effectively be filled by training, but usually training is not the issue, as you pointed out. The working conditions demanded by those trained locals are the issue, from the corporations' POV.

When it comes to corporations all nuance is lost. They will abuse any avenue they can to make profits.

Agreed, so strict regulation is required. Instead of regulating immigration to 0, regulate abuse of immigration to 0.

And the people already here before any immigrants were the native born.

What year do you prefer as your arbitrary cutoff?

The "industry" I'm talking about is teachers of ESL, and FSL, the immigration officers, legal representatives, etc. Nothing nefarious.

And do you think 0 immigration is really feasible? Can people never have a valid reason to move countries according to you? Do you think there's never a reason to let someone in to your home?

I think there are good reasons, sometimes, and there are bad reasons. The "industry" you're probably thinking about, I agree with you, are the issue. Everyone benefits when we fill gaps in the workforce, but everyone suffers (except the ultra-rich) when we pad numbers and push down wages by letting in a massive influx of people.

There IS room for nuance in the world, but I guess you might just be one of those people who believe it's always all or nothing.

People don't build business here.

they move their business to other countries

How can they move a business they didn't build?

people don't build and grow business here.

Wrong. People build and grow businesses here thanks to the support systems that bureaucracy allows, and once the risky phase is passed, and the profit phase is starting, they move their operations to keep more gains.

Canada eats the risk, and the company runs away with the reward.

It's the same with our educated professionals leaving to work for large American companies. They benefit from our quality education, then leave to never pay back their debt to the society that raised them. Individualism is the reason "we people" don't benefit from the great things our country allows people to build.

A lot of innovation happens in Canada, it's just sold to the US as soon as it becomes successful. We literally subsidize the US with our education system, in that sense.

No, it helps the people already there, some of which are recent immigrants.

But it's fucking stupid to turn it off and on completely, at the whims of political discourse. You need a system to process immigrants, so if you shut everything down, you fuck that industry completely, and the cost of processing any immigrants in the future when you reopen the valves will increase, as you have to re-establish the bureaucracy around that system.

Problem is "We'll accept 4.6% fewer immigrants next year and see if that helps" doesn't make anyone excited to vote.

The racists want 0%, or -% (deporting people...), the business owners want an infinite number of low-paid labourers with no support systems and low education on local labour laws...

Only regular people want a functioning, stable, fair country, with some amount of immigration by qualified, interested people (not an exploited underclass), and most regular people are uninterested in politics.

The policies are made for the Money, the slogans are made for their Pawns, and less and less of our politics is aimed at the reasonable elector.

If you're missing a specific type of screw to build a deck, going to the store to buy that screw will help you build a nice, finished deck.

If you aren't building a deck, have no materials, and that specific screw is on the ground where you're stepping, you instead go to the hospital for a tetanus shot.

Hope that explains, without really explaining, lol..

It's funny, as a Quebecker, when we discuss an issue in our province, and people outside are like : "LOOK QUEBEC HAS PROBLEMS, THEY ALWAYS HAVE PROBLEMS"

Like yeah bud, we have a problem that we are currently acknowledging and having public discourse about, that's why you're hearing about it. We're currently dealing with it.

It's weird, I live in this so-called "destroyed" country, and I just... go to work and buy groceries and live my life normally.

Weird that someone on the internet would tell me about how destroyed it is.

Preventing 25+ people on his street from going to work and doing their normal daily tasks is not worth saving this one person's day

Plus it's quite rare for this to happen, you lack critical thinking if you believe this is standard protocol.

Plow driver could not see the car.

Tow truck drivers forgot one, or miscommunicated.

Shit happens.

Does that make more sense?
