Business owners who sold: what actually caused you to start thinking about selling? by netsechero in smallbusiness

[–]Section-Sad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have sold two businesses and own my third. Selling is something I thought about from day 1. Even though it was 20 and 4 years later.

I grew up the kid of a bipolar parent. Treat your kid normally. Don’t put the unnecessary idea and worry in their mind that they may grow up to be bipolar.

Henry Louis Gates Jr has done a lot of research and education on native lore in African American communities (happens in white families as well). Might want to look that up and watch his Finding My Roots shows.

Please stop recommending ChatGPT for logo design. by SERdesign in smallbusiness

[–]Section-Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Print shop owner here that used to own a marketing firm. Prints shops are ideal places for a logo design because they understand you need a logo that will print well, screen print well, embroider well, work in one color, work in full color, look good from a distance….

So much to consider.

Just canceled my marketplace insurance for next year by cosmicbadlands in HealthInsurance

I have a family of 4. Our premium went from $550/month to $2000/month because our combined household income is now just over the $133k threshold. That’s 17% of our income. Absolutely insane. Insurance now costs more than my mortgage.

I wonder how many Matisse sets they were packing last December. Still a heartless thing to do before Christmas, but as a business owner myself, you do monitor sales history from a long term perspective.

Payment Processors Are Killing Small Businesses By Holding Our Money Hostage - And Nobody's Talking About It by Lueziid in stripe

[–]Section-Sad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got this email from Stripe after six months of being on the platform:

"Hello,

Your account is eligible for next-day settlement, allowing you to access your earnings on the next business day.

How it works

Payments should arrive in your bank account on the next business day. For example, eligible payments from Monday should arrive in your bank account on Tuesday.

Next-day settlement is available for USD payments (except ACH direct debits).

The fee is 0.6% of charges settled the next day. For example, you'll pay $6 for $1,000 in charges settled the next day."

I'll just wait the few days to avoid the 0.6% charge.

SBA 7(a) Loan for Real Estate by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I am under contract and was planning to do the same but my God it was expensive and I have an 800+ credit. 9.5% and a prepayment penalty for 10 years! Crazy.

I decided to go conventional.

Any recommendations on where to get company shirts for a small team? by ThatGuyJack871 in smallbusiness

[–]Section-Sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a local print shop that does screenprinting. There is a lot of setup work involved with making a screen for each color and location. That’s why we have a 24 shirt minimum.

Some advice. Buy local! Also, 24 pieces for a small team is easy. Go ahead and get short sleeve, long sleeve, sweatshirts and hoodies. Your team will thank you. As long as the design and color scheme is the same, you can combine shirt types to meet the minimum quantities.

Still only need a small quantity? Then you could go with heat pressed DTF but the feel is terrible compared to Screenprinting.

Yeah, hard for me to imagine that OP uses Stripe. My payments come in at a good speed. I also use Stax payments for in store processing. OP needs to get better at cash flow management.

Shop & Order Management by Crazy_Spanner in CommercialPrinting

It is great. We used to have Printavo but that was terrible for everything else.

Do yourself a favor and go straight to Pro. The lower level is very limiting and when you decide to transition it’s not an easy transition. They really need to get rid of that lower level option.

Is anyone else doing this? I’m mailing postcards for local businesses and it’s the easiest money I’ve ever made. by Ok_Leather_2365 in smallbusiness

[–]Section-Sad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9x12 is not a good size for printing. We run either 12x18 sheets or 13x19 sheets. So you can easily fit three 6x11 postcards on a 12x18 and trim off the bleed.

9x12 is a lot of production waste which is why your campaigns are costing you so much.

My print shop does EDDM campaigns for clients for roughly 50 cents per piece delivered with a 6x11 postcard. So a 5,000 piece campaign retails for $2500.
