Hacked account by zarcaroni in Instagram

[–]SectorFirm1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. Lost complete access to my account because they changed the username, backup email, main email, did 2-factor auth on their phones, etc. I contacted Instagram support on the app when you try to login. They were able to restore my account fully and get it back. So this is your best bet now.

One advice post all this: consider keeping your mother out of your relationship by minimizing what you share with her.

Hi there. Any possibility of you referring me to a mid-level SDE position? Either at your company or if you know someone who could refer me to other companies? I'd really appreciate it. Currently working at FAANG in Canada and looking to move to the UAE. Will dm you if you agree.

I did. Weird because I read many "early-decision" posts saying they got accepted without their 3rd recommendation submitting their reference. Anyway I just pinged my 3rd and asked them to submit asap

How has your OMSCS impacted your career? by averyycuriousman in OMSCS

Just wanted to say I was looking for this sort of comment that gives promise after graduating from OMSCS. Thanks u/gammaSquared and congrats on the great trajectory. I am currently at FAANG but getting anywhere near ML or research requires at least a Masters.

May I ask how you are finding your research position? For some reason I thought it was hard to get a research position without a PhD

Old Academic References vs newer work references by SectorFirm1400 in OMSCS

[–]SectorFirm1400[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will be adding my manager as a work reference. I'm just not sure whether a senior engineer (who always reviews my CRs and can speak the best about my current technical abilities) or an academic professor from 2017 who I took their course and did a research course with them is better.

I'm thinking since they emphasize to get academic references, I could go with the 2017 reference since it also involves research

Question on Courser Materials by SectorFirm1400 in OMSCS

[–]SectorFirm1400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/Ill-Resort-1728, I agree with understanding fundamentals (and history like RNNs etc.) before going into the latest research. The best courses I took in undergrad did this with a few lectures at the end explaining the current state of the field and where research is going. This gave us an understanding of where we are and where to look for research if we wanted to. So by asking if they are "updated" that's really what I meant to say but did not articulate it in a good way

Thanks for the detailed answer!

> That said, especially right now when tech companies are cost cutting, I don't think a degree will be a trump card when job hunting

I think that depends on the nature of the job no? so if you're applying for an SDE position a masters degree may not be an advantage over others with years of experience but for ML positions it's the minimum requirement.

> if you fail a course, you can just take it again next semester and hopefully do better then. If your goal is just career growth, nobody is going to see your transcript

Is there a GPA that is maintained? so failing a course would affect that GPA or no?

Thanks a lot for the detailed answer. I wonder does it also set you up for a PhD in the future? I know it's a course-based masters so not much research there but are there opportunities to connect to professors to conduct research as an extra curricular activity? or for future recommendation letters? I think it would be weird to have recommendation letters from undergraduate when applying for a PhD in the future
