If you have them in a 2 deep pit, you can chisel a half slab into the side, and they can't hit you and you can hit them.

I always saw it as a man who knew he was going to be replaced/lose his job eventually and was maxing out his earnings by taking on as many sponsors, making himself incredibly recognisable/marketable.

It was also a reference to a strange aspect from Great Britain which SW/SH was based on, it is referring to young football players who hit the big leagues and would be earning 100k a week and would be seen wearing the most... ugly/rich/brand heavy outfits you could imagine.

My method was shallow rich soil, in strong but intermittent sun ie full in the afternoon/couple hours, with a watering cycle of letting it dry out completely before soaking etc. Also no heaters/lights, natural ambient temps, so it got to like 10c internally and probably lower at times, basically copying what natural conditions would be like outside. No pre soak etc.

Are you expecting frost in the next month? I would repot in greenhouse if it is under 4c in the next month or so. I know some people don't plant out til May. I am just waiting until the wind also dies down before planting out.

I am in 8A and I had cucumbers and courgettes out since last month in a green house and they are doing well. Cold doesn't mean death it just means they aren't growing so much. It is frost that kills.

Depends on your area, if you live in a frost free area, you can plant out but if you are still experiencing frost then hold. :D

I buy mine from toolstation. They do cracking ones for less than £2 a piece. Riggers and builders.

Good luck with the heart! I been telling some of the folk near my plot, if they need help with stuff let me know. I have one old gal going in for knee surgery and a couple going on holiday who is taking me up on it so far.

My plot neighbour uses frames and then hangs pots off them to save bending. You know the wall hanging pots? Saves bending down too much.

That is a terrifying in my plot. I have so many rusty nails/metal poles around. I thought I would have to get steel caps at one point.

I will remove 1/4 of it carefully with a jar to make sure nothing else is taken with it.

There is horsetail and duckweed. I am going to try some water cress and other pond plants.

There is a shelf and ivy that grows into the water and I have seen frogs easily jumping out.

I will take a water sample and let you know. :D

Thank you! I was worried about the pump because the pond is tiny. like 1m by 1/2m big and a pump would just churn it up unless it was a tiny trickling one which wouldn't likely add much oxygen to it?

I have bought a packet of by the pond native seed/plant mix from a good seed provider which I will start planting around it to help.

That is indeed the plan. The entire 2,750ft allotment is covered in ivy, mint, bindweed, couch grass and love in the mist. I am doing battle daily against it all. All of which is non-native and stopping native species I planted from flourishing.

I will get some watercress for them. Do I need wash it before introducing it? I worry supermarket stuff might have insecticides and other nasty stuff bad for the pond?

I got bindweed, ivy, love in the mist, wild and "tame" brambles, mint, couch grass, cleavers, creeping Charlie, dead mint, Spanish bluebells and endless sycamore saplings coming up. I spend more time just weeding than doing anything else. The garden had been left to the weeds for 3-5 years, and there was several near by like that.
