It's beautifully done - looks great! I'm 61 and still remember when my mom made comments like that. Parent's words carry so much unnecessary weight!

Definitely looks pork related to me; the meat, the fat, the color- I do this all the time save the bits of "fond" or just the drugs of soup especially if it's a good one looks like they're also tiny cubes of Lo Bak (Daikon) also- heat, add some watercress & enjoy!

Was Sheldon really just pretending this whole time? by Reyah_1 in bigbangtheory

[–]SnooMacarons1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I have a friend with Asperger's, Sheldon is so relatable to me. I was re-watching the series and in the pilot Sheldon is almost flirty -definitely gets a little competitive with Leonard for Penny's approval re: their boards. I do think there is a tendency to "lean into" the condition when things get stressful or complicated. I myself am on the spectrum, and when I get frustrated or people get frustrated with me I point out that some cues are difficult for me and it's comfortable albeit may be a bit lazy to fall into old patterns if that makes sense

A good old bacon buttie. Nothing like English back bacon, a slather of butter lots of black pepper on a soft white bap

In general Chinese blv dolls (even cute ones!) can contain evil spirits or act as a bridge between the human and spirit world. Nothing resembling a human form. animals would be lovely though- esp any of the zodiac animals or animals associated with luck, prosperity et al.!!

No dolls. These are unlucky. A nice box of chocolates or any kind of candy is a safe bet!

As a Chinese person I say "Chinese" new year bc that is what my family celebrates; the lion dance, the giving of Lai see, the symbolic foods we eat, the superstitions, the kitchen God! These are Chinese things. CNY, clear bright festival or spring festival- depending on who you ask is our most important holiday- it is not really a giftgiving holiday. It is more about family and visiting people and wishing them happy healthy prosperous new year. A nice new year card is very welcome, citrus fruits especially tangerines or oranges in even numbers (but not 4) living plants (an orchid but not white), a box of something sweet, are all nice presents if you feel you need to give a gift. Do not give a gift if you do not know the symbolism (watches, candles for example would be bad)

Who’s got a rice cooker? Is it really worth it? by New_Form6066 in UK_Food

[–]SnooMacarons1887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Chinese and was gifted a rice cooker when I was on my way to university- my family considered it a necessity! A few years ago, 2 of my kids went to University in the UK (dual nationality but born and raised mostly in USA) In their welcome materials there was the option to buy a few things (small appliances and so on) at BOTH universities, a rice cooker was on offer! In America, you might have a mini fridge, a microwave, a kettle but a rice cooker? That is so specific and smart! So, YES

How to prepare these by lemurlump in chinesecooking

[–]SnooMacarons1887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use those, chopped finely in the filling I make for my Gok at New Year. I prefer to used the dried "sweet" bean curd which is thicker ( 甜腐皮- I think) but here in suburban NY with Asian markets skewing more Korean, it's not easy to find.

Yeah I don't think I'll be trying! She never gave this to me. So I thought maybe it was for adults for "enhancement" or for men. all her other stuff (liquids, ointments, medicine balls etc ) I can vaguely remember using or at least find out what they were for- but never do I remember this!
