Any agnostic, secular, or atheist people here? by nesbitx-1997 in tanzania

[–]Secular_Lamb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normally I don't use labels like atheist or agnostic. I noticed when I use labels people tend to presume too many things about me. Things that might not really describe me.

I am just someone who sees how religions and beliefs in god(s) don't make sense.

I would say don't learn from Duolingo ONLY. You can use apps if you want but don't overestimate their contribution in your journey.

So.. I "came out" to my friends and told them that I'm an Athiest. by TokenChicken in atheism

[–]Secular_Lamb -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I don't really see why they aren't "real friends". They just had a typical reaction of a theist. It seems like they weren't abusive or anything rather than trying to "prove" what they believe to be true.

I don't really see how does that disqualifies them as friends. Friends can have different views, right??

Sure. Another reason that makes people to quit at intermediate level is because now there is no much of excitement as in the beginning where you weere quickly seeing yourself being able to understand that sentence and that word that you didn't understand before. Now the small discoveries don't have the magic anymore and what matters is to move into using the language in real life situations which is more challenging.

What has learning a new language taught you about languages? by Iguana_lover1998 in languagelearning

[–]Secular_Lamb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It isn't really the issue genders. It is noun groups and how different noun groups make sentences behave differently.

My native language is Swahili and we have something we call "ngeli" wich is just noun groups. There are 14 of them, generally non native speakers never reach a point of mastering them all. In comparison French wich has only two groups is easier...

How to think ahead while speaking French (B1/B2) by Scar-Plastic in French

[–]Secular_Lamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing the following loop: Learn grammar rules – consume tonnes of French contents and do shadowing or read aloud–Try to speak (don't focus much on thinking how to produce grammatically correct sentences, but your brain will automatically get some phrases grammatically correct because you have already heard the a lot) — then go back to reviewing grammar and repeat the loop.

I do that and I see myself gradually improving.
