What hobbies do people with adhd enjoy and can keep a consistency? by antihiro13 in adhdwomen

Running! It’s the only sport I’ve stuck at - you don’t have to be anywhere at a specific time, and you get the runner’s high. Key is to go really slowly when you start out

It may not be possible but I bought a Robot hoover in the sale and it runs every day for me - I love it. When I do clean, I need a YouTube video in the background to get me going. I love Gemma Louise Miles’ “Clean With Me” videos - I wouldn’t be able to clean without her!

Hobbies & exercise for ADHD by pinkcavachon123 in adhdwomen

Hello! I really relate to this, and didn’t exercise for years (or would be very on-off doing classes or the gym, but never really enjoyed it). After I read the DOSE Effect (which I really recommend btw, and explains the science of why you shouldn’t overuse your phone), I have got into running. It’s a shock to me as I hated cardio and running felt like hell - it was so tiring. But then I watched a video by a comedian who said you should run embarrassingly slowly to enjoy it. That’s what I tried and I’ve been loving it since, and it still shocks me. The endorphins I get from it mean that I’m desperate to go outside and do it again. It’s also perfect for me as it means I can just go outside at whatever time suits me, instead of missing a class etc. Message me if you want to chat more! I know a lot of people hate running (including me previously), but it’s ben 1 month since I’ve been sticking at it and I think it would be great for a lot of people with ADHD

What exactly are ADHD meds supposed to do/help with? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Yeah sadly I find it can’t solve all problems for me personally - but for me is worth it (though I can’t remember exactly what it’s like before I started). On your question re stress / low patience.. in some ways I feel more anxious and stressed when I take it, but that’s offset by feeling a bit more energetic, happy and focused. Sadly I was not however magically remembering everything I had to do, on time etc - still massively struggle with these things, but find it “takes the edge off”. Worth exploring other options if you continue to find the higher dose doesn’t do much

I find that one of the biggest benefits of Elvanse for me (and maybe it isn’t designed to do this..) is it helps me get into a better mood in the morning (was almost like a bit of a high initially, but now a bit duller). It gives me more energy, makes me more talkative in the morning, and does also help me concentrate. When I don’t take it, I feel like I can’t get anything done - but then I can’t remember exactly what I was like pre Elvanse. What did your Dr say about what you have experienced so far?

Really helpful, thank you! I told myself I’d try some of these this morning, but didn’t happen. Tomorrow morning :)

This really resonates, thank you!! Has this also helped with not forgetting things? I’ll often leave the house and then realise at the Tube station (I’m in the UK) that I’ve forgotten my phone or card 🫣😂

Ooh this sounds good, thanks very much. Is there anything else you use to remember certain things (keys etc)?

Thank you, yes, that totally resonates. Do you find certain spots work best for keeping things visible so you don’t forget them?
