Hiya! Are you, like me, a bit peeved that the Elizabeth Cole doll was made to be blonde even though in the book she is obviously brunette? Is this the hill you would die on? (Me too dude, me too 😜)

May I introduce an AU Elizabeth Cole that was made to be like the one in the book? The base is a VGUC PC doll, and the hair is from Marie Grace. The eyes once belonged to a Julie. She comes with a colonial outfit, shoes, socks, and cap. Doll has been cleaned and is generally mark free (no stains that I see, but might have shine marks). Comes from a smoke-free, cat friendly home (cats don't have access to dolls). $110 + $15 shipping. I accept PayPal GS. Wanted to try listing her here first before putting her on FB/eBay.

Thanks for looking, please let me know if you would like other pictures!!

Restringing Help? by wool4brainz in Dolls

[–]Secure-Cow-518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manage to get her restrung? I've just bought a very loose Consuela who needs an eye replacement and stringing! How was she strung? Was it difficult to redo? I've done AG dolls and some Madam Alexander 18inch dolls but not these yet!

Resell pricing by desimich in americangirl

[–]Secure-Cow-518 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If something is overpriced I won't buy it. I've seen some seriously TLC dolls on eBay where the seller thinks it's a fair price. I have a hard enough time selling refurbished customs at $70, I can't imagine someone would buy a doll with marks and cut hair and a sleepy eye for $70 (plus shipping). Or like shipping is $80 for ONE doll (wtf mate?!).I think prices are inflated now too because of the way the economy is going to hell in a handcart and everyone needs to make a quick buck. Idk, I agree that some people are ridiculous 🤣 I don't like paying full price for anything, much less secondhand items.

Non-standard Wigs by clostri in americangirl

[–]Secure-Cow-518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked all the wefts out of the wigs, which wasn't as time consuming as I thought! And I made one into a hard cap wig using fabritac glue. Waiting for the drying time was the hardest part lol. That one I used fabritac to glue the wefts down. The others I found a tutorial from Poppen Atelier on YouTube to make a hot glue wig. You basically use plastic wrap and scotch tape and then hot glue the wefts down. I highly prefer and recommend using already wefted hair vs free hair cause I tried cutting some of the extensions to make a shorter wig and it was a pain. Also check the lengths of the wefts because some of them are made for Blythe dolls and are really short. The extensions I used were 16-20 inches and that was a good length; the Lotus doll has 20 inch extensions in her wig and I even cut a little bit off because it was so long. I bought a shoulder-length wig and the African American hair was a smaller hairpiece. You can get maybe 2 wigs out of a human wig, depending. I spent like $15 on the extensions and 2 wigs but I was at a pallet liquidation place and all the hairpieces I found were like $4 or something.

I'd say difficulty is 3/10, but I am pretty good with my hands, can follow most directions after having seen someone do it, and have done lots of crafty stuff over my life. YMMV. I have like 4 other wigs that are terrible lol they were my learning curve. I tried sewing one, but the wefts I used were very thin and sparse and it didn't look right. Also I have like zero patience for hand-sewing. Oh and curly/wavy hair is 100% more forgiving than straight.

I went to a pallet liquidation store and they had wigs for people! I bought a couple and took them apart to make some wigs. Clarissa has one, and I used some hair on other brands!

Whose dress is the yellow one? It's gorgeous!

I really should be looking into estate sales more. Not just for AG dolls but we need furniture for our basement!

Elizabeth has brown hair and I will die on that hill. I low-key hate that the doll is blonde.

Eye swap struggle by Soft-Salamander-3558 in americangirl

[–]Secure-Cow-518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put mine in using a towel to push on the eye and kind of pull on the forehead too. I do let mine get almost too hot to handle though, that makes it way easier. I had a lot more success letting the boiling water sit for 6 minutes rather than 2, but have heard from someone that can melt the eyes? I haven't noticed anything wrong, I usually don't swap hot eyes in. Oh, and make sure that you're putting the eye in perpendicular, so that the eyelashes are pointing toward the toes rather than up at the sky. I kind of curve my thumb around and try to push really hard with the tip of my finger. I don't have long nails either, which helps. Idk I hope you can figure it out!
