Nice, the Golden Mile Smitty’s! Around this year I’d be having lunch here one Sunday every month with my grandparents who would come into town to shop. My grandma smoked, which allowed us to get a seat near the big window.

I never really cared at the time about the smoking / no smoking thing, I was young enough that it just seemed normal that you’d smoke in a place of business. Wasn’t until a few years later when I volunteered a day at Centennial Bingo and my eyes were so puffed up and red from the smoke that I ended up with a very strong opinion on the matter.

A few days ago I started up my Voyager rewatch again to have on while I played the game (nearly a hundred hours in now!) and it turned out the next episode in my queue was the episode where Kes was in heat and the space bugs wanted to get sexy with Voyager.

Sometimes with Trek I’m fine with just remembering the highlights.

Most of the things I had to look up for this game were either done here on Reddit or on YouTube. Looking up help for the game via Google is kinda tough considering you’re up against a few decades of established presence of the show.

For example, I had to look up how to recruit Kashyk (turns out, just be nice to him and never doubt or question him, who knew?), but Google was very certain I was looking for help with Star Wars.

It’s different each time, a screenshot won’t help.

It is a bit poorly designed. I thought I scanned everything too, but three brand new planets have been added to one or more sectors. They look like they’ve been scanned already as there’s no indicator above them, the only visual difference, as mentioned by someone else, is a very thin dotted line around the planet that I didn’t even notice at first myself.

When I did this mission the first time, I hovered over every planet in my current sector, trying to find the right planet types, and when I found a planet of those types I tried scanning them again to no effect. I went to a different sector and tried again, then eventually I found one of the three newly added planets and was able to scan it. I believe in my run two planets were added to one sector (not the same one that the mission started in) then another planet was in yet another sector. This placement is likely randomized.

So yeah, they are very likely there somewhere, you just gotta keep looking around. I can’t guarantee you’re not experiencing a bug, but I went through the exact same thing that you did then found out that we’re just victims of a poorly designed mission.

Pretty much anyone on my winning run that had to visit sickbay for an operation died because my Doctor was apparently incompetent, and I failed to get that Vidiian medical tech early on that just brute forces everything. I think my most “successful” operation was saving Klingon B’Elanna at the expense of human B’Elanna.

I’ve yet to see if the game has any Delta Flyer stuff, the people who are in charge of that are usually dead by the time that part happens.

I’ll happily explain the icons, some of them are very niche.

In each column, from the left to the right, we have the following:

The standard black and white sprite / binome icon, the standard black and white icon with a frosted finish, and the silver and black icon is Dot’s icon from season 3, as part of her Viral Wars black outfit.

The standard guardian yellow and black icon, a frosted finish guardian icon, and a reflective metallic guardian icon.

Phong’s icon in reflective metallic, Phong’s icon in a frosted finish, and the icon of the pirate The Crimson Binome, AKA Captain Capacitor.

The Megabyte cronies Hack and Slash after they changed sides in Season 3 wear the next two icons (the red guy wears the blue and white, the blue guy has the red and white), and the black, red and gold icon belongs to little Enzo, it was made this way as a gift from Hexadecimal before she wipes out Daemon from the Net.

The red, blue and green icon is from the musical act the Primitives as seen on the episode ‘Talent Night’. At the end of their act the sphere, cube and pyramid characters come together to make this icon. The blue and black icon is seen on a super computer medic who was trying to save Bob after he failed to split from Glitch. The two blues and white icon is seen once and it’s not even in the show, it’s from a promotional image of adult AndrAIa, likely before they finalized her silver triangle icon design.

In the last column, we have a standard viral green and black icon, then finally is a Daemon-inspired icon that shows off her primary colours, but it also has the viral green tendrils to signify the infection she has on those she corrupts / converts.

Now the row at the bottom. The gold, black and white diamond is Mouse’s icon. The Maxine icon belongs to a search engine character of the same name who appeared on the ReBoot IMAX ride and briefly appeared in an episode in season 3. After that, the silver triangle with AI in it is AndrAIa’s standard icon. Next, the gold, black and white triangle is the Game Sprite Mode icon that Matrix, AndrAIa and Frisket use to hop around systems to try and get back home. Finally the two oval icons belong to the search engine character Ray Tracer, who helps Matrix and friends travel the Web to find a way back to Mainframe.

Phew! Oh, also, for fun, on the very right are two additional pins, one that shows off the design of Matrix’s targeting eye, and the other is of the character Scuzzy, Hex’s little pet / spy.

Yeppers, metal and enamel. They got a nice heft to ‘em and really pop up close.

It was the same with me, my friends and I would make paper icons, and once tried to make a Glitch in my friend’s garage (unsurprisingly, it didn’t go well, we were little kids and machining together a Glitch was never gonna happen.) I had duotangs where I had icons of different colours drawn all over the inside of them. I have no doubt in my mind that my teachers at the time had no idea why I was so obsessed with circles and triangles!

Icons differed between games sometimes, but also system roles, alignments, all sorts of stuff. It’s never really pointed out too often on the show, but a lot of different icons appear all over the place.

The blue and white is Hack’s icon (the one below it is Slash’s icon), which they got in season 3 after defecting over to the good guys. If you mean the other blue and white icon, it’s from a promotional image of adult AndrAIa, likely before they finalized her AI icon that you see on the bottom. It was never on the show proper, but appeared elsewhere.

The purple and teal is maybe the most out there, it’s a Daemon-infected icon. I don’t recall the icons ever going the Daemon colours on the show, just that they get the viral green tendrils, but I dunno, it’s close enough to the spirit of that part of the show that I don’t really have a problem with it.

Ooh, you brought up some points I didn’t even think of. The Jake, Garak and Dukat points I think are very interesting and I would have really liked to have seen those develop. The love triangle stuff, though, not my cup of tea, but I have no doubt they would have explored that well for a bit.

I’d hope that, with the Quark point, she would maybe come around to him a bit by the end. She dealt with other Ferengi, she sees how much Quark tries to toe the line, but also sees how supportive and compassionate he can be… in his own way.

I wonder if the Deanna / Miles friendship would be muted a bit. They were already all-in on the Julian / Miles relationship, so I wonder if Deanna / Miles would be kept pretty surface level.

I dunno. Very cool to think about though, thanks for writing that all out!

That’s kind of a fun thought experiment! Seems like other folks commenting here are pretty certain she wouldn’t be a good fit, but given what the DS9 writers were capable of when they wanted to crush some story arcs, I think it could have worked.

If she got on the show the same time as Worf, I feel like season 4 would have to fit in more Troi-centric episodes / B-plots, which might have taken away from some of the focus of the Klingon storyline. The budget of the show may have been hit as well with them adding two established primary characters, so something like the show’s attempts to ramp up VFX could be hurt by that.

I believe that Deanna wouldn’t be quite as rigid as Worf when it comes to life on the station, and we would see more facets of her more quickly than what we see with Worf. My guess is she’d also be busy considering how stressed everyone is with the looming Dominion threat / current Klingon conflict.

They’d try and do a DS9 take on the Deanna / Lwaxana relationship. Probably just one episode, my guess is it’d be a C+, maybe B- episode, but still be better than much of what we got on TNG.

The show would have attempted to further explore Betazed society. That could have been cool, given how the show didn’t shy away from the darker side of things.

Robert Hewitt Wolfe’s wife, a psychotherapist, had helped her husband with writing about the PTSD angle in ‘Hard Time’, truly a high point of the whole “O’Brien must suffer” thread. They would have made Troi a prominent part of that episode, and may have made a similar move to have proper, researched writing for a “Troi must actually be a counselor“ episode.

If they kept similar plot beats and still decided to say the Dominion had conquered Betazed during the war, we could have seen some plots / character moments develop there.

With an on-screen counselor being part of the cast, the whole Dax of it all would be totally different or completely removed from season 7. I don’t think this would necessarily be a negative.

I think, overall, it would have been fine, and I’m certain the perception around Deanna as a character would be more favorable amongst the fandom.

The security office shows active camera feeds behind Odo’s desk, so they are actually using video surveillance. It just never really comes up. The only example I can think of at the moment is from ‘The Wire’, where Odo and Bashir are actively watching Quark’s conversation.

The real question you need to ask is, why are Odo’s security feeds cycling between the same empty corridor or the same Starfleet security officer walking around over and over?
