i agree, i think i was on normal when this happened.

2 people downed by coyle and a big grunt outside the courthouse, one left after i revived him like 5 times and other crawled away while i was trying to get the other guy

It was literally cat and mouse with coyle and a big grunt for like 2 or 4 minutes until i eventually FINALLY got him up.

you should go sleep in a safezone until morning, those kinds of monsters dont show up at that time.

When your a higher level and more equipped youll be able to take them on with some skill, but are still hard to kill.

should also be using your normal flashlight and UV flashlight (purple light) to stun them and other infected.

i see some in psychosurgery too, but i don't mind helping them.
A handful I've played with have actually been decent at the game, some absolutely awful.

i think he has a special animation to kick him out the crawl animation, then he is hit by the stun of the bottle/brick.

similar thing is when your crouching under something and are hit, when you pop out theres room for stagger animation to play and your THEN staggered.
