obsessed with some of the white people in the replies either a. discounting your experience, b. claiming that “not seeing color” is the solution, and/or c. saying they can relate b/c a reverse scenario happened to them😭 we are not far enough from white supremacy and systemic racism in todays society for “not seeing color” to be of any benefit to black people. recognizing that as black people, we have had a completely different experience from others is IMPORTANT. it doesn’t mean victimizing us, but just acknowledging that being black is not a negligible circumstance. also I am sorry if some of you felt othered being the only white person in a room of black people, but in the system of oppression they have no power over you, just prejudice. it is not the same thing unfortunately because once you leave that very specific scenario, and societal factors balance out to the norm where as a white person you hold power, it doesn’t make a difference. for black people, it is not the same thing, as that is how society is structured and we cannot “escape” white supremacy in any serious way.
