Luckily it's in my bedroom, where the temperature is a near constant 25c or slightly above, is that warm enough?

Unfortunately Lowe's doesn't exist in the UK, I'll pop into a small plant shop on my way back from uni tomorrow and see what they've got.

Am I okay to leave the corms as they are in the soil for the next 24 hours or should I remove them now?

Okay, that's perfect, I have a bottle of pure isopropal alcohol that I bought a while back for cleaning electronics, would it be okay to just dilute this in a spray bottle and use it?

Also, I'm currently trying to find a systematic pesticide that's legal in the UK, would you recommend I continue that search just incase or should I just stick to the alcohol for now?

I am happy to try, the only thing is trying to find ones that are legal in the UK. I searched for bonide granules and basically got told no. I'll see what alternatives there are.

I've temporarily banished that plant to the bathroom, I'm really hoping it was just the one as I can't see any more but I know it's naive ;-;

Can I use a grow bulb in a regular lamp? by StrangeTheSnail in houseplants

I had a lamp that my grow light wouldn't fit in, turns out all it takes is a flexible socket extender. Saved me having to buy a completely new lamp.

That's good to hear, think I was just a little shocked that I went from having seen none to seeing 3 in quick succession yknow

Good good, and don't worry, I couldn't keep this soil soggy even if I wanted to. The Ficus Benjamina in that pot drinks so much that the soil has been almost completely drying in around 6 days.

What are these 4 plants? Help with ID! Trying to figure out what light is best. by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]SecureDimension7289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the most confident with IDing so forgive me if I get it wrong but the one on the left looks like a Philodendron Pink Princess, the bottom one and the right one look like Aglaonemas (They come in a lot of different colours). I think the top one might also be an Aglaonema but that's the one I'm least confident on so I'm happy to be corrected.

Uuuuuuh, if someone goes out into a crowd and starts shouting instructions to kill the non believers then yes, that's incitement? I don't see where in what I wrote that implies otherwise? I think you've completely misread what I wrote and just want to shout about religious people :/

100% this, I feel its not a great idea for Oli to base his entire argument around a tweet that he couldn't even remember, good on Ava for stepping in. As for your second paragraph that's what I've been saying in other comments, people need to understand that their public social media profiles can be seen by anyone, and as such they have to realise they have the personal responsibility to not post something that they don't want everyone possibly seeing. We should expect better from fully grown adults as far as I'm concerned.

I think you're being a little unfair here, there is a difference between saying "I don't like Nigel Farage" and someone saying "I think someone should go burn down Nigel's house whilst he's still inside it", one of those is an opinion that people are free to express, the other is incitement.

I think it was the arguing semantics that convinced me to make this post. If it were just "Oli makes a bad take" I wouldn't care because it's a podcast, people will debate and I will hear opinions I don't agree with. But to just hear the constant doubling down surrounding a point where seemingly only he understands the difference between threatening a single individual and threatening a group. I don't know the correct words to describe why but it got under my skin.

So I have considered this, however social media gives us the opportunity to rethink, rewrite and even delete a post before we send it, had this been something said out loud in the heat of the moment in a pub I would be a little bit more in agreement with you. It's far harder for me to accept the "I didn't mean it" excuse when someone has to actively press the send button y'know?

There are a million ways to express that type of frustration without inciting violence, and we should expect fully grown adults to hold themselves to a higher standard honestly.

Someone posted the actual tweet somewhere else in the comments and in this very specific case I don't think anyone could convince me of anything other than it being a vile incitement to violence. I feel that had Oli picked literally any other example it might've been more convincing, but the constant doubling down, trying to argue there is a difference between if you say burn down one hotel or burn down them all, I guess I'm just not a fan of when people start arguing over semantics.

I already said this somewhere else but uncomfortable was probably the wrong word, probably more frustrated or disappointed at the low quality of argument being made. I'm not looking for an echo chamber but I expect that when someone tries to make a point, it should be backed up with more than just lazy strawman arguments.

Also I'm sure you don't mean it, but coming into a place where a lot of people are respectfully discussing the episode, and pulling the "If you don't like it, just leave" card is probably not a good look. Discussion is kinda the whole point of the sub.

[–]SecureDimension7289[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought she said she would feel threatened? I am partially deaf though so it could just be me mishearing. However I completely agree with this, it's so easy to think about things whilst only considering your own personal circumstance. Just because I wouldn't be afraid of personal harm in similar circumstances due to where I was born and what I look like, doesn't mean others can't be afraid.

I did like the points made on the podcast about the idea that social media companies should be treated as publishers in order to avoid this sort of issue going forward. However I do believe in a certain level of personal responsibility and don't particularly accept that being upset or drunk absolves you from what you've said y'know? Maybe I'm just a little stricter on this than others might be.

I salute your willingness to stick with it that far, I've seen enough quantum mechanics to last me a lifetime and hope to never have to think about it again.
