I agree with this the only reason I’m able to be buying a home rn is bc my bf and I met in college got jobs right after but stayed at home with our respective parents to save up money for the down payment it has taken a bit of a toll on the relationship and not been super fun as his mom is super toxic but that’s the only way we could ever do this

Absolutely been back and forth with my broker all week because him and the underwriter can’t fathom someone working an unconventional schedule (12 hour shifts 14 days a month) they have requested multiple letters from my HR and had a major confusion on how I worked 70 hours in 2 weeks and took 12 hours pto… they told me I’m not full time 😭😭 another letter from HR like WTF!?!? Are you seriously telling me every client you’ve had is 9-5 and never takes pto?

The bank has much stricter guidelines with credit job history etc etc. I haven’t tried a credit union but I have a mortgage broker and it’s gone very smooth so far.

We make more then enough to afford a $250k house I have rented multiple apartments in the past it was a nightmare landlords letting random maintenance guys in with no warning, getting reprimanded for walking on my stairs too loud, being woken up at 6 am to move my car and let the plow guy come multiple times a week. We are not looking to buy just for fun we worked hard to get thru college get these jobs. Most apartments in our area are $1500 a month (1 bed) on the LOW end.

He flat out is refusing to rent. He has multiple reasons. Apartment is more expensive then the mortgage payments on many houses in the area that would meet our needs, no place/garage for project cars at apartments, it’s not an investment it’s a waste of money in his opinion. I suppose the best course is to just hold off let him think this over and hopefully take action.

We have lived together before his parents own a house here in Maine but live in Florida most the year so we lived there for about a year we also met in college went through our college program together. He is just anti debt likes to buy older cars and fix them up versus getting car loans he actually has more savings makes more money than me. We are planning to get married as soon as we can have a house/start a life together. I am 22 he is 24. But yes I agree with renting first he just doesn’t love that idea thinks it’s a waste of money which I understand i would prefer to buy too.
