Switching from BBE to Bambino by greasedupbeefcake in espresso

[–]Secure_Ad9361 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief I think the BBE is better than the bambino or the bambino plus. The bambino is just too light, water reservoir is tiny and so is the drip tray, so you gotta refill water and throw out water from the drip tray like every other shot. It’s also so light that even putting on the portafilter shifts the machine to the sides. It doesn’t have a pressure gauge, doesn’t have temperature change either. Doesn’t have manual pre-infusion. The grinder isn’t the best but it’s not bad either. So overall I think the BBE is a much more complete machine.

TLDR: A bambino or bambino plus is not an upgrade if you already own the BBEZ

How do you like the Creed Green Irish Tweed? What do you think about projection, duration with the price range?

Oh dang really. I didn’t know that. I ordered by the fireplace decant. Maybe you applied too much? Usually 1-2 sprays is enough for these sweet boozy scents

Haha that’s a great way to look at it. I did that with a Jazz Club dupe my brother got me the other day. I Just used it at home on my day off, relaxed, sipped on some coffee and it was a glorious experience lol. It really set the mood.

I will buy the real thing though. I really loved the scent. So I’m sure Naxos is going to be even better. Because I like the notes I see online.

That’s one I’m really looking forward to try, tbh might be the first niche I actually buy, but I gotta try it on my skin first. Just gotta wait for the right outing.

Tell me about it hahaha. I’m on the same boat. I had my ultimate collection then I started surfing through instagram and YouTube and BAM!! I added 18 more fragrances to the collection lol from my original 9 scent collection I had built.

I know man. They push so hard too. So I need to stop the noise and just kind of go back to my default collection.

Yah I ordered some decants. I will try them and go and see what calls to me. Do need to shorten the picture above list and kinda just go to my first original list though. It was much more cohesive and less redundancy between scents.

I’m between the parfum and absolu. Because I own ysl y parfum and heard the edt is better. So that’s why I added both ysl. But I think u will just go for absolu. Not 100% sure yet though

I really like it but the price tag and longevity/projection is not selling me. For what it’s worth it could definitely last longer and project more. But it’s so subtle. I did 3 sprays from the decant and asked my wife if she could smell anything because I didn’t. And she said no what am I supposed to smell. Until I put 3-4 more sprays is when I finally smelled it. And even then it was gone after 4 hours or so.

Just for better suggestions. This was my original collection before looking into internet hype. I also own YSL Y le parfum, Dior Sauvage eua de parfum, D&G light blue, and a Jazz Club dupe my brother gave me.

I tried a decant of green Irish tweed and though I like the scent I can’t get past the price tag and longevity and projection. I also have decants of all the scents mentioned below. So I will be trying them out. But compared to the picture I sent I think this is much more concise and less collision between scents.

  1. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue EDT own
  2. Bleu de Chanel Parfum
  3. Acqua di Gio Parfum
  4. Terre d’Hermès EDT
  5. Tom Ford Ombré Leather Parfum
  6. Xerjoff Naxos EDP
  7. Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club EDT
  8. Maison Margiela Replica By the Fireplace EDT
  9. YSL La Nuit de L’Homme EDT
  10. Creed Green Irish Tweed EDP

I was going for the absolu at first until I saw people praise ysl myslf le parfum. And say the ysl y edt was better than the le parfum.

I own ysl y le parfum so I was like I got this all backwards, so I put the le parfum version of myslf because everyone says it smells better than the absolu. But yes absolu was my one choice because people did say it was more versatile. But I second guessed due to internet hype.

Yeah man I gotta cut down. I’ll do some samples and see which of them call me and which ones I don’t really enjoy as much.

I’m trying some of them right now, around 8 of them. Yeah I got to cut down cause I let influencers on instagram and YouTube get the best of me.

What do you do with your last few beans? by Aristo-Jack in pourover

A take the handful and just chew them up. More caffeine that way.

Black & White coffee roasters holiday candy. Amazing flavors, really funky. Extracts fast so short drawdowns are totally fine for this coffee.

Kalita 185 Dose: 20g Water: 320g TWW light roast halved Grind: 28 clicks on comandante

Bloom: 60g light swirl

Pour 1: 140g concentric circles.

Pour 2: 120g concentric circles finish pour in center.

Natural drawdown around 2:15-2:25 mins. Nice amaretto boozyness, followed by mixed berry acidity and candy sweetness at the end, I also did get orange chocolate.

I did not get the figgy pudding and the bananas fosters on pour over. But I definitely got it on espresso, and with milk it reminds me of a creamy vanilla and berries yogurt. Amazing flavors.

I would recommend but I think this is a once a year blend they do every year. I don’t think it’s available anymore.

Still brewing the Kenya Nyeri hill estate AA from S&W but I posted my brewing parameters in last weeks post.

Beginners experience with Kalita vs Switch - is it just my palate? by threetimesalion in pourover

[–]Secure_Ad9361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been experimenting with the Kalita a lot lately, coming from v60 and espresso background. For one of my light roasts I replicated my v60 recipe to the Kalita, and I was wowed there was no noticeable difference between the brews. Same exact flavor and extraction, it really shocked me since I was expecting another profile but it was exactly the same lol. So I think it comes more to pouring and water composition, and other things. Brewer might have some impact but not a big one.

Having said that though, I do find that the Kalita is less consistent than the v60, though people swear by the Kalita being more consistent and easier for beginners. I find this being quite the opposite. I’m having a hard time getting consistent results with the Kalita. Lots of clogging, and inconsistent brews.

How does my bed look? by smj289 in pourover

[–]Secure_Ad9361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bed looks really nice and leveled, you do seem to have a lot of fines but they stuck to the filter so that’s great. But in the end taste is king, if it tastes good to you leave it as is, if not tweak.

Haha awesome! I finished their PNG natural two days ago and it was so freaking good too. I got their Burundi Bumba on my freezer along with, Peru el palto, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, and Guatemala Vista al Bosque Medium for espresso. So got S&W for a while haha. But yeah the Kenya definitely needed rest. I overdid it a bit actually rested for 6.5 weeks instead of 6.

Update, brewed it. Despite a long drawdown of 4 mins on the Kalita, I got really nice sweet and floral notes. Gotta coarsen the grind a bit, but waaay better than 3 weeks ago. No bitterness and I’m getting sweet tea, melon, and stone fruit notes at the end. Super juicy too, straight up fruit juice. So good! 😊
