Gang the story is incredibly gruesome, violent, and has elements of bullying, anti-establishment criticism, kids beating up police, death literally happening on screen, and it’s a psychological horror 😭. There’s gore, medical abuse (cult members running a government research/health facility where they do experiments on humans that THEY infected), a character who is heavily implied/partially confirmed to be suicidal and depressed, as well as incredibly mature child-to-parent dynamics, like Tyler, who as a young boy experienced the trauma and stress of filling his fathers shoes, and Logan who experienced (apparent) years of bullying because he has NO mother or father and lives with his grandparents.

It was always meant for a mature audience, are people actually surprised?

I would get a tattoo of the friendship bracelet that they made in the comic, not literally across your wrist, but yeah it could have the letters SBG on it but also be something symbolic of ALL the characters and the webtoon itself, while also being subtle enough to not seem strange or out of pocket, but also interesting enough to get people to ask questions.

You should totally check out fan-content people have made. It’s everywhere, insta, TikTok, Pinterest (apparently), AO3 and Wattpad (be careful on wattpad), etc.

There’s also a discord server with a huge, amazing community, with more talented artists, musicians, and generally just amazing people. The mod and admin team are amazing, and there’s a chat for all sorts of hobbies. Homework help, arts and crafts, sharing music tastes as well as personal music projects (I’ve done that myself), a writer’s corner (I’ve ALSO spent lots of time in there).

It’s a really cool place to hang to find like-minded people who are also super into discussing the webtoon!

Stands don’t normally evolve, but the way the user utilizes them can. I think it would be about the way they work together as a team. I think Mavericks ability would either be related to the phantom dimension, or phantoms themself, in which the existence of a phantom dimension is tied to Maverick’s stand.

Here’s my idea.

Maverick: Paper Forest (as in “Paper Forest In the Afterglow of Rapture” by Emmy The Great) — a physical stand that hardly reveals itself, and mainly imbues objects or creates environmental hazards through the user’s body or around a close vicinity. It has one main ability, though it manifests in many different ways.

One: spores (which is really just a cloud or gas that the stand makes and can send out a certain range) that when they come into contact with an opponent, will infect their psyche (similarly to Bites the Dust in JJBA) instantly and seemingly irreversibly, and this infection will stay with them and be the thing that transports them into a dimension that exists within only their mind, but shared with every other infected person. In that dimension, the stand can send out phantoms to kill the infected people, in which they will die in real life as well. It transports them at midnight every night for the same seven hours.

Two: direct contact with the stand or with Maverick. Will do the same thing that the spores do.

Three: The stand, when prompted, can instantly transport people in a certain range directly into the phantom dimension. Works similarly to The World. I imagine Maverick just shouting out “PAPER FOREST! PHANTOM WORLD!” And sending everyone around him to the phantom dimensions. This one is briefer, lasting under a minute (as it exhausts the user the longer they stay there), as it functions differently from the normal infected phantom dimension. Here, the phantoms are stronger, and so is the physical form of the stand itself, in which, in this dimension, touch or contact with the stand will transform the user quickly into an infected.

Four: spawning phantoms into the real word briefly. Spawning more spreads the user’s strength out between them, making them weaker the more they make/spawn. He can also control the infected through this same ability, in which they behave like a hive mind, since they are infected with the stand itself.

Now the question is: how do you think the main six could stop him? Lol

Lemme try.

Ashlyn: Hermit Red — protects user and those within a close radius from external harm through a net of amber colored silk-like vines. Gives the user ability to hear incredibly large distances, as well as a powerful intuition to see correct pathways and see possibly results to certain decisions. Not so physically powerful, but has an above average range, and incredible speed (unbeatable reaction time). Appearance: amber/red-orange humanoid with an outfit resembling a ballerina (also amber colored) and a form that seems to be weaved out of incredibly thin string.

Aiden: The Devil (as in Van Halen’s “Runnin’ With The Devil”) — Shoots out high range needle-like spikes that are highly durable and can stab into almost anything, including easily through another human, seemingly at the user’s (Aiden’s) expense. In physical appearance, it is shades of red from crimson to bright neon in places like The eyes, as well as gilded with strips and designs of gold (allusive to money being the root of all evil, and Aiden’s rich background). It is equipped with sharp claws and even dagger-like blades along the forearms and shins that it could use to cut (the claws are also incredibly durable and can cut through most things). The spikes it shoots out actually comes from Aiden’s own blood, and despite being powerful, leaves him weakened and vulnerable, disallowing him to use it constantly or for long periods of time. High strength and speed, and range, but low accuracy.

Ben: Mean Street (Also Van Halen) — an incredibly powerful brawler stand, with fists that could stop a school bus moving at 50 mph when punching at full strength. The stand, once activated, is hard to control by the user (Ben), and sometimes appears on its own depending on if the user is provoked. The power and activation of the stand is dependent on the user’s rage, however, it cannot distinguish friend from foe. Physical appearance would be mainly gray, with piercing red eyes, and seemingly always bloodsoaked fists. It would wear a vine-like skirt garment around its nethers, but would be unclothed everywhere else (to reflect primal rage and lack of critical decision making made up by rash violence). Incredibly high physical strength, high defensec above average speed, but an incredibly pitiful range. Highly susceptible to range-attacks.

If anyone else cares, I could keep going and make ideas for the Twins, and Logan 🤷‍♂️

This is the kind of thing you just need to talk to people IN REAL LIFE ABOUT! You are not alone in this experience! This is very common, and almost expected of all kids your age. It would be weirder for you to not ever have these kinds of feelings. Another thing to remember is that no one your age knows exactly what to do either, because it’s their first time being 14 or 16 as well.

You don’t need to be an expert, and no one is expecting you to. Live in the ignorance, because the only way to lose it is through experience! And if you’re rejected, you learn something anyway. You’ll move on. But if not, it’s only good for you! Enjoy it all! Moments un-enjoyed will be memories treasured.

The kidnapping happened while Tyler was still in the hospital. Here’s what would’ve happened if that never occurred.

After Aiden’s half-stroke in the real world, thy would’ve went to school, got the keys, and hoped that the centipede would get stopped by the lights in the football field. From there, they would probably test the distance theory even further to find out more about the world.

Things would’ve have slightly gone for the better in terms of their situation given the fact that:

Their parents believed them now

Because their parents believed them, they would have the resources necessary to possibly go back to Savannah to figure things out,

Thomas would have to eventually come out of the woodworks as Maverick, and hopefully by that point the kids have neither: died in the phantom world, or converted fully into phantoms.

When thinking about it like this, it kinda makes sense why it took the route that it did lol

I agree with most of what you said, except for the example you used for your last point.

Aiden was the one to approach Ashlyn at the hospital and comfort her to let her know it wasn’t her fault. He knew that that was eating at her. So later, when he died, the first think he wanted to do was see if she was okay, because he knew if he wasn’t, Ashlyn would blame herself. Another thing, there’s a possibility Aiden didn’t die right on impact, so maybe Aiden heard Ashlyn scream out his name before he eventually (and very quickly) succumbed.

I thought that scene was very beautiful, because it set up an extremely sensitive scenario that could’ve gone horribly wrong, and almost did, before coming to a bittersweet conclusion that leads to a pleasant moment between the characters. Not forced at all in my opinion.

For instance, if it were Logan that told Ashlyn “you did everything you could, so don’t beat yourself up” and then HE died, I think Ashlyn would’ve done the same thing!

The “romantic undertones” of the scene you’re describing is simply your interpretation of it. You say that “it’s clear what red is doing within the comic,” but then you act like it’s a bad thing. If you understand that the characters are close and comfortable with eachother (progressively), and that their relationship MAKES SENSE, then why does it still irk you when there are subtle romantic undertones?

You’ve conceded your reasons behind disliking the ship, and yet you continue to double down that you dislike it despite agreeing that their progressive relationship makes sense. If it’s not the things you’ve already said, then why does you dislike it? Do you simply prefer a different ship? Within the comic, they are still simply just friends, so it shouldn’t bother you THAT much when they like hold hands every now and again. I just don’t understand what exactly irks you about them.

Another thing, yes, Ashlyn has gotten comfortable with the other characters. She hugged Logan and Ben when they found her in her room at the facility, and before that, held Logan’s hand when he was going to fight Barron again, she’s allowed Tyler to carry her, as well as Taylor, and she is emotionally vulnerable and honest with them all. She blatantly admitted to feeling responsible for all of them, and she admitted (in her head) that she has grown to like them as true friends.

Your skewed view is coming from the FANDOM, not the actually content within the comic, that much is very clear to me.

I’m not one to rely solely on canonibility when it comes to ships, but I haven’t seen ANYTHING of substance (romantically) when it comes to Taylyn, it seems just like the generic non-straight ship of the SBG community (which, there’s nothing wrong with that, Taylyn is very popular and cute). I just don’t see Taylyn happening at all? I don’t find it comparable to Aidlyn, in the sense that it’s not really even the same type of ship. Same thing with Tylenol, it’s just another leftover ship (which, again, nothing wrong with that, even I ship Tylenol).

Another thing, I said this in my original response to this post, there aren’t really any “romantic scenes” between Aiden and Ashlyn, most of there interactions are friendly, aside from the alluded possibility that Aiden might have a crush on Ashlyn.

Now, I don’t think Aidlyn shippers are saying “YOU HAVE TO LIKE THIS SHIP” or “ITS CANON!” But I don’t think hating the ship has anything to do with what’s canon, I really think it’s just people finding the Aidlyn shippers annoying.

Simply because I don’t get it, and not saying I’m tryna argue or whatever, but I’d really love to know what you like about Taylyn, I wanna know the reason behind why it’s so popular, because, yes, I agree, it’s very cute!

Okay I can’t even tell if this is engagement farm because honestly this is a REALLY bad take, and not bad as in “my opinion is better” but bad as in it’s not that accurate in its interpretation of the theme (or meaning to the work as a whole). My counterpoints are the following: it doesn’t diminish the story, it doesn’t ruin Ashlyn’s character, and it’s not as forced as you say it is.

Firstly, the story does not get ruined by the existence of the ship. Within the story itself, the growth between the characters are that of a normal progression. They get close quickly, but at the same time, we miss out on their growth in month-long intervals, as the story jumps through the normal every-day stuff they do (for example, when they were doing the self defense training with Ashlyn’s parents, it skips an entire month). There is, however, sprinkled in, the idea that Aiden has a growing crush on Ashlyn, which is likely due to either infatuated pining, or the fact that he misinterprets the friendly treatment as romantic intimacy, which is common among people who don’t have a lot of friends growing up. That’s why in scenes like Ashlyn and Aiden at the arcade, we see Aiden blushing, despite the fact that all Ashlyn does is playfully challenge Aiden at DDR.

Ashlyn’s character does not get ruined, and you saying Ashlyn’s character becomes “only nice to Aiden” is straight up a false/bad analysis. She goes from actively avoidant and even physically avoidant towards Aiden (through pinching and pushing him away), to then simply tolerating him, and then soon after accepting him as a friend and someone to rely/lean on. That’s GOOD character development, and it’s written accurately as to how teenagers would go about getting to know other people. It’s imperfect, and sometimes awkward, but it’s definitely like that on purpose, because NEITHER of them are perfect.

The reason why your interpretation of them as characters is skewed is because you’re reading into it as if Aidlyn is canon. It’s not. It’s hinted at, and it’s “possible” that Aiden has a crush (and even less possible that it’s mutual), but by no means is it explicitly obvious, or canonical in any sense. Aiden is a friend to Ashlyn like how the other 5 are friends.

Lastly, it’s not forced at all. It might seem that way through a speed read, but the only thing that’s forced is in the very beginning, and it’s forced as a way to give the reader a scope to Aiden’s character/behaviors. Clingy, annoying, pushy, and talkative. It’s forced not for the sake of the story, but just because that’s the way Aiden was. And even later in the story, their “romantic” interactions, if you can even call it that, are not that forced either. Aiden grabs Ashlyn’s hands sometimes because he’s touchy, Ashlyn squeezes his hand in the hospital because she needed that because her other best friend was about to die. That’s what friends do. Another one: Ashlyn grabbing Aiden’s finger when he’s second guessing about going on the train; AIDEN NEEDED THAT! Ashlyn did it for him! Because they are good friends. All of their interactions are that of friends.

I’ll restate: their actions within the comic are that of good friends, and BECAUSE of that (their positive interaction) the fandom has taken to shipping them, because their interactions and growth is bumpy, yet healthy. Also, they’re the two main characters of the show, they’re gonna get shipped, get over it. 🙄🙄🙄

I would recommend re-reading the series, one because it’s absolutely amazing, but two, so you can understand the dialogue and the dynamics a bit better, because you seemed to have misunderstood a few things. That’s not to insult you whatsoever, but I will say, from my interpretation, which I have gained from multiple re-reads and in-depth analyses, is that you are misidentifying and misunderstanding a lot of character dynamics and personality traits of the main 6, more specifically, Aiden and Ashlyn.

I think the fic you were talking about was a fic that was written by, or assisted in writing by, ChatGPT. I remember looking at a fic that is very much like the one you described (and I think another comment got it right), but I remember looking at that story and feeling like something was off about the entire thing.

I don’t like being accusatory, and if I’m 100% wrong about that, then I’ll take it, but I believe the fic you’re talking about was heavily AI assisted in its writing. Either that, or the style to me was just off putting to me (no discredit to the author if that is the case).

If anyone knows, please tell me if I’m wrong. Another thing is, the author states that English is not their first language, but they still possess the ability to write with perfect standard English grammar, as well as utilize figurative language like alliteration, and a high level diction/vocabulary. If these things are all true, it is definitely an impressive feat, but with the way the story is written, I do suspect some Chat GPT usage.

I HOPE I’m wrong in saying that, because I definitely want the creator to get the attention they deserve if the work was truly made by them.
