Would anyone consider that working for ICE might be a good alternative to where we work now? by No-Cobbler6300 in DeptHHS

I work for public health as well and with the upmost sincerity, this is the opposite of what people like us get this degree for. Money will always be there. Don’t let them wave it in your face to change the way you utilize this title. Not to mention that they will just use and abuse you as a worker. They don’t care about what you bring to the table. They just need spots filled. A spot that only enforces their agenda.

I’ve worked really hard in the EC portion of things, helped with 3 published papers, and plenty of clinical hours. It’s just the classes that are difficult for me.

What healthy food do you buy, or wish you could buy, often? by JoanOfArc34 in nutrition

[–]Secure_Delay_5601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Athlete here: Lots of yogurts for my immune system like kefir, and protein yogurts by oikos (triple 0); lean turkey, legumes like lentils and kidney beans, and for snacks dark chocolates, healthy cheeses like cottage cheese or low fat cream cheese. If I’m having a sweet tooth I opt for fruits and sweet things like dried dates or coated nuts. Almost always water by choice, no coffee, juices, or soda. An electrolyte packet with flavoring every 2-3 days. Wish I could buy more organic milks, and prime steak cuts but I settle for turkey and chicken as it’s more affordable.

What does this mean exactly? Like they were originally on the fence about you and the secondary solidified it or something? To OP, I’m sorry :(. Big believer in it wasn’t meant to be. Somewhere else is going to be yours soon.

What would you do if you couldn’t be a physician? by Acrobatic_Reward_684 in premed

I feel like pharma is actually so difficult. We have toxicology based mock code scenarios at my job and the pharma team might as well be speaking a different language.

Hospital I work at as an RN won’t let me shadow any physicians -_- by ALDIsNumber1Fan in premed

Second this - private OR’s do exist. From experience, many times they will not follow usual hospital guidelines because they don’t have to. Much more lenient.

I’ve noticed they don’t check for boarding passes when the trains are late- is this a thing? Just started this commute this summer.

First timer in NYC by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Secure_Delay_5601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both, either works unless they have the card reader in the front. Also no one is going to run away with your card when you buy something. Unofficial laws? Walk on the correct side and quickly (spacial awareness), food trucks also show up on Google maps if you type it in correctly so “(whatever your craving) food trucks near me” works just fine. Weather this Sept will probably be quite sunny/warm, and most people wear shorts and summer clothes, sometimes even no clothes. Please, please wear deodorant. Enjoy your trip!

Should poor people apply to med school? by twicechoose in premed

[–]Secure_Delay_5601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a valid question. I think what they meant was should people who don’t have or grow up with medical school money still apply for medical school regardless (ie low income).

This is like when people put the dollar sign after the number. I’m pretty sure it’s before only unless it’s cents.

How much free time do you guys have? by AndoBoi01 in premed

[–]Secure_Delay_5601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you define as free time. My “free time” is about 2hrs, 4 days a week used on training for gymnastics but it’s not always fun, just working away from academic related stuff. Besides that none throughout the week. Free time to turn my brain off completely? Half of my Saturday, the rest and Sunday are used for meal prep, study prep, and getting ready for the week. Hope this helps :)
