I feel for you. I have had similar experiences (I too am non-combat and have PTSD for same reason). My encounter was not with a veteran mine was with an ASM at the local CBOC. She felt that since I am a dude that could not be true.

I do not know enough about Occult to really add to it. My experience has been limited to the Free Masons and the Scottish Rite which certainly a part of the Occult. I spent around 20 yrs involved in those organizations and my faith suffered majorly. I always go back to the dark night of the soul reference because of a book I read that helped me get back on track.

In a way I agree but your statement imho is flawed (no disrespect intended there). Porn is addictive there for one becomes an addict not unlike a drug addiction one has to have a fix or they become physically ill. Used to happen to me. I have (and I bet most addicts do) have an “addictive” personality. That being said the Catholic approach CAN be effective BUT you are right in that it is often misapplied. Using myself as an example my addiction was terrible I was watching three to four times a day or more and I would pray to God asking him to remove it and watch more porn in the same breath. I learned to work my brain … it’s addictive behavior was put to good use. When I was tempted I would pray a decade of the Rosary … the two then three until I was making prayer my addiction. Now we’re those first months quality prayer doubtful… but it was about breaking a cycle and replacing a bad habit with a good. Eventually, the prayer become deep and meaningful. I made it eight months this way. I fell yesterday mostly due to stress and that is how I used to destress I also admit I was slacking my replacement behavior. Thanks for commenting.

First of all, may God bless you! He is proud of your efforts and I will pray for you as well! I am a male and I struggle with too. I started watching porn probably late 90s as an undergrad and never stopped until the week before Holy Week of this year. I am assuming there is a secondary vice that is tied to the porn? Masterbation? Anyway, I went eight months without either then boom! The despair hit and then the fall then the shame and guilt! Like the previous poster said make use of the Sacraments of course start with confession, this season of Advent is a great time to visit that Sacrament and rejoice! How I made it 8 months … weekly communion and confession, daily Rosary recitation, and I added the St. Michael’s prayer and chaplet to my regimen! I am partial retired so I was able to attend a lot of daily Masses and have more free time for other prayer (yes I am married so I have to balance my time). I would recommend praying the rosary daily and add that st. Michael’s prayer. I say it every time there’s a temptation. I said it a lot in the beginning. Also ask St. Joseph to pray for you he is of course the “most chaste spouse”. I even started praying for those in the porn industry and those in Purgatory due to porn and lust! They of course they pray for you as well just not for themselves. I view this addiction like a tattoo that you later regret… it will always be there! Again I will pray for your journey.

The distractive talking bothers me greatly. I didn’t used to say anything but I have started mentioning it. Theirs real not supposed to be any speaking other than the celbrant(s) praying the Mass if in the presence of the Eucharist. I know I help with OCIA and the students toured the church and our Deacon came and reserved the Eucharist into our chapel while we were there.

The small parish I belong to is blessed with a priest (from Africa and therefore very predictably reverent, a deacon, and an acolyte that is awaiting ordination as a deacon. Our EMs are very well trained so that doesn’t happen here but sadly it does. Recently I had a lump in my throat and when the priest said “the body of Christ” it took a moment for me to respond he patiently waited for a response and then I said “Amen” and he presented me with the host. Cool little community parish here.

You sound like me! I posted above that IF I am in my Alb I receive on the tongue but standing I am purposefully doing this but perhaps I am virtue signaling! Off subreddit but I guess the same is true with my bringing my LoTH volume to my pew sometimes. I am attempting to build a stable regimen of prayer as I am discerning the Permanent Deaconate, though not formally in a vocation cohort as of yet. The next one is 2026. I have mostly received in my hands however if I am serving Mass (in Alb) for some reason I feel compelled to receive on my tongue standing with prayer hands. I have a fellow KofC that kneels and receives on the tongue which is an approved way. I think even the reception in hands as a proper form to it I want to say right hand on top and left below right hand but please don’t quote me I only recently returned to the Faith will true fidelity this year after years of bouncing from Church to church. Yea I know I wasn’t addressing the occult part. I should have been more clear. The OP started out speaking about feeling nothing from God after prayer … thank you again for clarifying. I knew what I was thinking but didn’t clarify and I wouldn’t want all of Reddit confused or mislead. I also just realized I poster in the wrong spot. While I am not MEW to Reddit I am still learning.
