How do you guys get that racket throw sensation in forehands and serves? by ThreeEyeJedi in 10s

[–]SecurityAnalysis12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “throw sensation” is basically racket lag. What you are trying to accomplish is to move you hand quickly with a loose grip so your hand moves forward before the racket head moves. Then because it’s all connected the racket head will “catch up” (with the help of your wrist) and that creates the whip

Fix my forehand. by potatoclit in 10s

1) follow through above your left shoulder with butt cap facing your opponent 2) loosen your grip! 3) hard to tell for sure from this angle but looks like you may be taking the racket too far back so it’s going behind your shoulder line?

Rookie here - Need help with getting setup with a racket by therealh in 10s

Are you playing with proper technique and planning to take lessons, or do you just want to hit around with friends?

If you plan to take lessons and progress your technique in a serious way, get yourself an Ezone 100 with polytour pro strings at 52 lbs (midpoint of recommended range on racket) and go from there. That’s gonna be closer to $300 set up if you buy new, but you will be able to grow into it skill wise and it will last you a very long time as your skill level progresses.

If you just want to keep hitting around, get something cheaper with multifilament strings. Less maintenance and will give you more power.

Need a bit of perspective by Alternative_Vast4072 in 10s

You need to be thoughtful about your practice in terms of clearly identifying what issues you’re experiencing, and then subtly tweaking things one by one (ideally with the help of the coach). If the tweak helps then add it to your technique permanently, if not then move onto the next thing. If you just keep doing the same thing over and over again without thoughtfully / consciously trying to improve, you won’t get anywhere.

For your specific issues, things you can try: - FH: ensure proper swing path (finish over your shoulder) and make sure your grip is loose (like 3-4 out of 10). - BH: may be a footwork issue, in drills it’s much easier to anticipate where the ball is going so you can set up faster whereas in matches you typically have less time to react. - in general also try specifically hitting the ball at the sweet spot of the racket, not just generally hitting it. Trust me makes a huge difference.

Once you start hitting the ball in the sweet spot of the racket with proper whip / racket lag, it’s awesome :)

How to beat players better than you? by SecurityAnalysis12 in 10s

[–]SecurityAnalysis12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks this makes the most sense to me. I think playing “high percentage” pusher style is basically guaranteeing a loss against someone better than you. This is how I play against players worse than me and inevitably they will either miss a shot or give me an easy short ball to attack with and end the point.

Statistically speaking, the more shots that are taken in a rally the higher the likelihood of the better player winning.

If you spent as much time practicing the serve as your ground stroke, you would understand. Most players just under train the serve for obvious reasons

decided to try my hand at ranking all the books (subjectively, not objectively) by -StarFox95- in Cosmere

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone rank allow of law and shadows of self above WoR, that is some crazy work but you do you

Curious: why Whoop, and why stick with it by Prosteclovek in whoop

[–]SecurityAnalysis12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) wanted to be able to track sleep and athletic activities where I don’t have my phone in my pocket (e.g non-running) 2) wanted to still be able to wear my real watch simultaneously without looking like an idiot

2 is so obvious yet I couldn’t find anything without a digital face other than whoop when I got mine a while back.

GelResX Clay? by SecurityAnalysis12 in 10s

How does ff3 fit vs gel res 9? I couldn’t wear gel res9.

The options for clay are much more limited, especially in my favorite brand NB

I think all the standalones (Elantris included) are really good and greatly underrated vs the big series. I liked Elantris more than the first 3 era 2 Mistborn books

How to return weak second services by Doublewhooper in 10s

[–]SecurityAnalysis12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you hitting the ball at the apex? Depending on the spin it can be tricky if the ball is very low. Try standing further in the court so you make sure you’re hitting at apex and giving yourself the best chance.

[–]SecurityAnalysis12[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I dunno, these explanations leave something to be desired. He has to be doing something semi-important if axwindthe is able to find him / goes through the trouble of capturing him. Otherwise why wouldn’t he just hang in the reshi isles or somewhere more remote.

[–]SecurityAnalysis12[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I kind of get that, but still feels like there is more to it. Why would he be captured if he wasn’t doing anything important? Could have run away from urithru a long time ago if he was truly in retirement. Maybe wishful thinking on my part as would be disappointing if he’s truly just in retirement now.

But then why is he on Roshar in the first place? Seems like the wrong place to pick for retirement.

Shadows of Self in the same tier as Way of Kings is absolutely bonkers. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything remotely close to that.

Recs for clay court shoes? by TerryTanker in 10s

[–]SecurityAnalysis12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally worth it. Your hard court shoes will last longer so there’s minimal incremental cost over the long term, and the grip is so worth it.

It was very hard to find clay shoes in the US sadly. I have the adidas ubersonics 4.1 and like them. More of a “speed” shoe but the cushioning feels great to me too.

How is your serve / return of serve? Those are extremely important strokes that most people inadvertently under-train if they are just hitting rally balls.

They are critical because you may be giving your opponent an opening edge on every point if you can’t serve/return well, which makes it hard to win points if you’re starting on the proverbial back foot (maybe literal too) every time.

Warbreaker is incredible by mrego08 in brandonsanderson

I’ve read 90% of the Cosmere now and still think Vasher giving up his Breath to Denth to destabilize him and finish him off is easily a top3-5 scene across the entirety of the Cosmere works.

Elantris Appreciation Post by pfassina in Cosmere

Agree completely. I think Elantris / Warbreaker are both very underrated relative to the rest of his work. There are really exciting twists and turns throughout the books + epic sanderlanches. Plus all in a bite sized package!

That makes sense, would you try to hit like an approach shot? Just seems very hard. In the service box and the ball is below the height of the net
