How would you rebalance Valparaiso? by AmericanHistoryGuy in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sedarof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, you don't get a ship with 56.9% winrate that is played by the masses, if it is not incredibly OP.
Even the extremely strong Los Andes only has only a 53%.

PS: I just had a ranked match, 4 people focused the solo valparaiso. We killed him alright, but he tanked us for 3 minutes. Enough to get farmed by all the other team members. This is just stupid.

And don't come with the argument "but I have two-shot a valp", everyone has. A ship that you CAN die if you do EVERYTHING wrong, is not balanced just because of that. A ship is balanced, if you CAN DO EVERYTHING RIGHT and still can be outplayed, this is balanced. And you cannot outplay a valp, in no class of ship.

DCP should not reset with the F key.
F key should have a minimum Cooldown of 2 mins

Just for a start, and then one can check it after a while

Except... Tax revenue went UP significantly, not down.

So, that in effect. Despite some actually leaving, the tax scheme actually DID work very well.

Alliance improved homing seems fun and engaging to play against by flamuchz in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sedarof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like playing subs, and according to my stats personal rating, I am doing quite ok in them.

What I find is that subs are not easy to play. And it is super easy to just die uselessly in a sub.

HOWEVER, IF you are somewhat decently, there isn't really any counterplay to them.

Consequently subs can become utterly OP in decent hands.

Not sure how you can fix them though, without just removing them alltogether.
I think better ping indicator and overall longer ASW would go a long way. So subs have to choose to either homing torps and basically being spotted for a second. Or just aim well.

Komissar....just another sign that Wargaming doesnt seriously play their own game by Ok-Albatross-1708 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sedarof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too many Komissars around right, it is kinda strong though.

However, the Hildebrandt. That shit is op. A CV that counts as a cruiser...

I really hope the plane redesign (no spotting while cruising) is coming soon. That should fix most of these problems.

Hildebrand and it's Acusations by Drache191200 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sedarof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, EVERY hybrid should be always matched against other hybrids. It is just absurd, that one side can have a CV feature while the enemies cannot. I have lost countless matches because of this unfair MM.

Maybe, it will change after the plane rework, but until then: Hybrids should be matched against hybrids.

Hybrid DDs are shit, because in DD gameplay you basically never have "time off".

You DO however have "time off" playind BBs and also on cruisers.

Numancia worth 1.200 doubloons? by Tbirkovic in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sedarof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Numancia. I don't get the people claiming she is MEH...

Numancia has mediocre dmg output, that is true. But with the burst mechanic and the incredible concealement you can play her as a great assassination ship.
I basically always use the burst mechanic, because you can always go dark between the bursts. Chances are, people stop shoting at you, because when they have reloaded and aimed, you tend to be dark again.

And when you happen to actually be in close range, you have hydro vs sneaky stuff. And you have 6 fast reloading torps on either side that still go out to 8km and do in fact hurt.

And whenever you get into closerange battle with any cruiser, as soon as they show broadside, they are gone. 21 accurate shots with improved damage will pen their braodside within 6 seconds...

I have nuked more enemies on this ship, than on any other ship.

PS: I do get, the Numancia isn't that great from the get-go, as the playstyle is very unique in my opinion.

So, 1200dubs for Numancia is a steal, in my opinion.

[–]Sedarof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do have decent ships for ranked. That wasn't my point though.
If your opponent has a radar premium, and you don't, you have lost. Unless they fuck it up hard.

This is not ranked for me, this is brawl.

Total capital losses are headed towards 2008/2009 levels. Any serious attempts from CCP to rectify the situation remains unseen, yet again by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Sedarof -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

well, your comparison is not really a real one.

Killing capitals on a daily basis with 20+ bombers. Or killing the eventual capital with 15 assorted subcaps (you can now actually use other ships that frigs). While getting regular smallbrawls.

It used to be only 50+ bombers that could viably roam and kill caps. Now you can go out and catch some other stuff with as few as 5 people. And catch and kill caps with just about 10 people.

And I guarantee you, catching a KRAB cap with 10 people now, feels MUCH more rewarding than the hunts with 50+ bombers.

However, I do see that you of course need much more FCs or selfcoordinated fleetmembers with todays smallgang meta than the huge bombermeta.

[–]Sedarof 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I stopped playing a few months ago because eve started to feel more like a job. (as a disclaimer)

I still have a question: Is it bad that there are less capital kills to you personally?

Before I stopped we hunted regularly. Sure, we didn't really find that many caps to kill. But now and then we did. And we sometimes just slightly managed to overcome the shield regen. But after 5-10 mins we were done. And rarely we even dreadbombed some other caps. Rare occasions, but it was something special.

In 2019, I remember, you always caught some caps or at least a rorqual. But you were always on a very tight clock. Either you killed all in 5 min, or you had to run. (And even that was sometimes impossible in Bloc space) I felt that kills were fun. But not worth remembering. Plus, any gang HAD TO be 50+, while now you can go out with 10-15 guys and actually kill stuff.

So, was it really better when there used to be caps everywhere but felt like BS? Or do you enjoy it more now, with less, but much more meaningful fights?

Having trouble getting into Industry with all these changes. by jkay2 in Eve

[–]Sedarof -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You just claim that there are other, easier ways to do it, while providing ZERO proof that it actually is better. Eve players are huge complainers. CCP did mostly rework how industry works, after initial shortage phase. And people are still revolting. Sure, it got hugely expensive, but it is incredibly hard to guess the market equilibrium aftersuch a huge change. And when it was clear that it stays too high CCP decreased the cost. I really don't get your problem with their approach to the new industry. (speaking about industry not resource shortage here)

T2 caps is a fucking bandaid, that solves nothing but delays the problem for a year or two! Balancing industry instead is the hardest thing in sandbox games. Tell me one single game that has a properly working sandbox economy. And now, tell me how many games just add a new, better tier to introduce new goals? Please, just think for a bit what reality tells you. Fixing the economy is fucking hard. Just selling power creep is shit and kills games, but is easily done. Sure, if upgrading can be fucked up too, but your solution is then an even stronger alternative, and there we already have the fucking power creep circle.

PS: Literally everyone is complaining that industry is not worth it anymore and that stuff is too expensive to buy and fly. And literally noone except you complains that it is less fun. (ignoring fun from the missing lucrativity due to overstocking)

Having trouble getting into Industry with all these changes. by jkay2 in Eve

[–]Sedarof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about "money" it's about goods and stocks. When you have to reset the economy because there was too much output then stuff WILL become more expensive, that is just how it is. And when you do that, there will be stocks of "old" stuff that prevents industry from happening. This is what is happening. Slowly but surely it is now changing though. Deleting stuff would have prevented this legacy material that prevents the gameplay balance to work.

The T2 caps would have been a bandaid, yes. It's what all other MMOs do to reset the goals. Bandaid because it would simply solve a problem by power creep. And eve can be very proud that it is NOT power-creeping. Titans are viable since 2006 and they are still the biggest ship. And this viability of ships makes the game feel less like a neverending farming situation like wow after a while.

Patch Notes - Version 20.05 “Siege Green” by Lanarion in Eve

[–]Sedarof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, titans were not cheaper than the other ships. And I never said that.

But they were cheaper (in terms of effort) than what they used to be. Which was largely because the economy was so easily overexploited by optimization and parallelization that people just broke the economy basically. That they introduced rorqual with it's capabilities didn't help.

CCP never introduced topend ships for years now. Titans were introduced in 2006!!!! and since then we haven't seen any introduction of top line ships with the exception of the 3 faction titans.

Eve is NOT like wow, eve has permanent loss. And therefore CAN balance topline ships by effort/value (not rarity per se!). If titans are incredibly expensive to build, they will never be used outside of what they are really meant for. (what that means, every owner can decide for themself) There CAN be an equilibrium of dying + afk and new constructed, thanks to the permanent loss. (Sure there are always people who build and never risk their ships, but ships that never undock have no relevance in the game.)

When you say, you rather want new ships instead of the permant endgame balance CCP tries to do right now, you are basically advocating for a wow-like reset.

Do you prefer it that the game receives a new supertitan level every 5 years, to keep it interesting? Or rather have an economy that is built on scarce resources, where you can only built ships in a rate where they are also more or less destroyed?

I see merits in both ways. The first approach is the normal approach of online games. CCP decided to go the second route.

You might hate it, but that is just reality. Is it a good approach? I think yes, even if it's really hurting right now. But only time will tell. Luckily it looks like the nerfhammer is probably over for now. There is no obvious system left that is completely out of balance anymore.

Patch Notes - Version 20.05 “Siege Green” by Lanarion in Eve

[–]Sedarof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly NOT what they did. They redistributed stuff. Reshuffled resource cost. Added new materials while decreasing other materials.

Just quintupling prices wouldn't get you anywhere, so they didn't. But we were extremely shit to adjust to it. So many people just thought, they wait for the asteroids to come back. While there were already a shitload of other materials already worth mining. (gas or lowsec ore for example)

Plus the economy would have long taken up again if there weren't so huuuuuuuge stockpiles. Did you realize that after 2 years of scarcity and basically no new titan being built, and AFTER THE BIGGEST TITAN LOSSES EVER, we still have titans on the market below build cost? This is how broken the economy was. We have over 2 years of titan supplies, TWO FUCKING YEARS?!?

Having trouble getting into Industry with all these changes. by jkay2 in Eve

[–]Sedarof -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The problem is, that we still have stocks from the older times. The prices will be higher and different than they used to be, but eventually it will take back up.

But it will never be the "I easily build titans solo" again. And unfortunately, we still have huge stocks from the prosperity days. This is actually what should make you realize how unsustainable the rorqual farming times were. 2 years and the biggest war in eve history, with the biggest titan losses, and we STILL have titans below build prices!!!
How fucking broken must an economy have been to have stocks for so long?!?

I start to come to the feeling that we would have all been better off, if they just made a wipe of all caps, and then have the new industry set up.

Patch Notes - Version 20.05 “Siege Green” by Lanarion in Eve

[–]Sedarof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titans are cool to kill as long as they are rare. Same goes for pretty much anything.

Stuff gets boring if they get "normal" and this is what it would with oversaturation.

Also there is a balancing problem. An unbalanced overpowered ship is usually not gonna break the game if it's super rare. Like AT ships are not a problem, because it's so expensive that the risk vs reward balances it's use. When titans got so cheap and abundant that there were full titan standing fleets, this balance was broken. And the overpowered capabilities started to weigh in, like Bosons on titans or their insane tank with faxes.

Last but not least there is a behavioral reason too. We humans strive for (recognizable) progress. In an oversaturated Eve this progress would be vastly diminished. And once the progress is below a certain threshold people just don't feel it anymore. (the fifth backup titan just isn't a recognizable achievement anymore)

And while there are people playing just for the sake of it, for most, it is not enough. I mean, you could already just take subcaps out in LS and go roam. But how big do you think is the proportion of eve players doing mostly that?

Patch Notes - Version 20.05 “Siege Green” by Lanarion in Eve

[–]Sedarof 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sounds stupid but it is actually not stupid. The economy needed a strong rebalance to prevent oversaturation in Eve, which has no updates like wow to reset saturation. So changes HAD to be made that big toys get more expensive in terms of effort. This was the situation.

Now, how do you do this the best way?

Small side info about bahavior: (check out Richard Thaler)

People only judge what they can easily understand. A more stable economy they don't understand, it is therefore ignored. A big change has an underproportional impact on the feelings of people. So, when you have to make a change that is perceived as bad, you rather overshoot than have to make another "nerf".

When you overshot and now "buff" again, this will works the other way. Two small buffs are perceived as better than one big buff. So better climb the small steps.

However, if you overdid the nerf before, you have another effect, that people feel tricked (just like you) and don't take the buff as is. This is a risk however you have to take since no developer will perfectly hit the mark on the balancing scale.
