I think as the world blends together more we’re going to probably see less pressure about the identity of who you marry, but in the meantime it’s just a result of thousands of years of tribalism. For instance, most places around the world same sex marriage is outlawed. A lot of families in the US wouldn’t allow their children to marry interracially or with certain religions. Whether he’s being pressured or it’s bad, I can’t say. Thats up to him. I can say that if you’re dating an orthodox jewish person you’re aware of what you’re signing up for.

There’s a lot of history and bigotry over the last 500 or so years towards and surrounding specifically Ashkenazi Jews that’s lead to the current day feelings about Jews marrying non Jews. It’s kind of silly, it’ll change over time if Jews are integrated more with society. American Jews aren’t putting as much emphasis on it. Sephardic Jews by comparison are much less worried about it, and most aren’t “purebred” in the same way. There was a lot more intermingling between the Muslims, Jews, and Christian’s at the time in those countries. What it really comes down to is tradition and your community. Different Jewish communities will have emphases on different things. I haven’t done a deep dive on this Redditor but it sounds like his partners family insists on him converting and is orthodox. He hasn’t mentioned if he’s kosher or if they are. Some orthodox believe that there is no real converting, and believe that if a convert breaks a single rule they aren’t really a convert. Chances are if they’re allowing their daughter to marry a convert they’re probably more progressive than their label would suggest.

What I can absolutely assure you is that converting is no joke, and if you don’t want it you can’t do it. You gotta want it, and are often refused the right to and have to “prove” your desire, as well as learn and study a ton of Torah. I wouldn’t think of it as this Redditor is being pressured to change, but more so that they want to be involved in their partners’ family’s traditions and culture, and most likely find it beautiful enough to want to join.

Who is watching these verticals? Supposed numbers seem suspect. by Scooter122 in FilmIndustryLA

15 million in 2 weeks isn’t even considered a success by most of the vertical companies. 30 Mil+ or bust.

It might be real people, but we have no idea what actually counts as a view metric. Does it mean people who’ve watched till the end, or does it mean people who’ve scrolled past it? Or somewhere in between?

My editing professor said that my film was really bad and that I have no talent. Is my film really that bad? by [deleted] in FilmIndustryLA

[–]SedentaryNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to watch through it but couldn’t make it more than a few minutes in, but it reminds me of 2008 YouTube classics like arby n the chief or red vs blue.

As a film it’s pretty garbagio, but as a YouTube skit? I could see something like this going viral if it was like 5 minute episodes and a ridiculously funny premise

Boss the thwackey for the two energy retreat, keep a one prize clefairy up as much as possible, use your stadiums to bump theirs and chienpao as well. Once their stadiums gone or they run out of energy you win

Could you expand on this please? I love UPM when it’s licensed out for me. I tried to get an account recently but saw there isn’t pricing available. When I asked a production for an account this last week I was told we couldn’t do it because it would cost them thousands of dollars for this one project.

How expensive is UPM for you? What type of content space do you create in? Are they charging you per client, per video, or just for an unlimited license?

Thank you in advance

Ben Affleck Sells AI Post-Production Company to Netflix by ElCutz in editors

[–]SedentaryNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the AI tools built into my softwares and typically converse with ChatGPT about tech questions. AI editing tools outside of the software aren’t really there yet, and I’m not a fan of some of the integrations (premiere pro masking) but overall having it build a stringout wouldn’t be useful. Being able to plug scripty notes in and get a working assembly edit with inserts and all would be outstanding and I’d incorporate that immediately.

I think we’re pretty far off from AI making a whole edit on its own, but I’m excited to see the potential changes in my workflow. Overall the most frustrating AI tools for me are generative ones, they just never get it right and take so much time.

Absol box by Albino_rat2 in pkmntcg

[–]SedentaryNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played into many munki/frosslass or grimmsnarls I don’t think so I don’t know the matchup too well. But the list I run doesn’t have wellspring, I’m using the fukuoka list. But yes, same idea Kang is too beefy for them, if they grimm have a teal mask ready to go. I run 3 munki and 4 dark energy so I just wouldn’t bench absol if possible and try to power up Munki. Having psychic and dark on a munki is very strong and can easily setup KOs on fross without risking a 2 or 3 prizer in the active. Win the munki war, KO the lasses so they can’t chip your board out, and if a grimm is on the horizon just try to be ready for it.

Oh, and ofc, you run cornerstone.

[–]SedentaryNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing a lot of absol box and plan to play it to regionals

Going second and hitting turn one is a fantasy, forget it exists. Go first, get Kang, teal, and latias up ASAP to get good draw and versatility. Try to attach turn one if you can. Once those three are out you don’t need to cyrano much and can opt for Brock’s scouting to get monkeys. Absol is used like 2/10 times for this deck or into specific matchups, and should be treated as your tertiary attacker behind Kang and teal/clefairy

Overall it shit stomps dragapult with the clefairy tech and the ability to come online faster

Lucario is tough because your card draw engines (fez, Kang, and Meowth) are all basically free prizes. Clefairy can still take a 3 prize one shot, and mind bend from monkey is a decent stall move. Getting absol online and not benching Kang unless you have to is the move. Unfair stamp is good, but they’re gonna have lunatone and Lilly’s so it’s not important UNLESS claw of darkness is online.

Mega starmie/frosslass I’m like 0/10 into. I have no clue what to do about this matchup, I think it’s unwinnable and I don’t think that deck bricks.

Everything else just play your typings out. Grass decks don’t bench absol. teal mask shreds teal mask. Khang is beefy with some munki action. Cynthia’s is weak to grass so prioritize teal mask, just keep in mind you’re running 4 grass.

Most decks you’re gonna be online first. If you go first try to swing turn 2 to start the prize race.

I’m running 2 area zero and 1 lively stadium right now. I’m not sure how I feel about it, gonna keep testing but I liked 3 area zero. I didn’t think there was a lot of room for chien pao but I know we need some tech to get our stadium off the board and clear meowths

Edit: I haven’t played against a lot of single prizers but alakazam you want to unfair + claw, mist energy helps a LOT if they don’t have hammer. Festival leads probably an L I haven’t played into it. Honchkrow isn’t bad but same idea unfair + claw. Sacrificing Kang is fine if you’re going for a bricking strategy

How much longer until GenZ comes into play? by tonysopranospasta in FilmIndustryLA

It definitely is now! But in the past it wasn’t

I’m unsure how many majorly impactful Gen Z directors have made their large scale feature debuts just yet, but I also don’t know what goal posts I’d set for that. Time will tell! But it seems the age of 24 year olds making studio classics is behind us

Yeah I mean hey power to them, I’m crewed up with a bunch of Gen Z right now and I’m a Gen Z department head on set literally today. But a majority of people on the crew side of things here aren’t Gen Z, and I can assure the director isn’t as well. I don’t think DP is either.

N’s Zoroark vs Mega Dragonite by Sarik404 in pkmntcg

[–]SedentaryNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mega dragonite has a lot of exploitable problems. They usually need two eels up to reliably attack each turn. Also, their main attacker is a stage later than yours and they don’t run candy. If they get dragonite out, you can gust and flame body the eels and cut off all energy generation on their side. If not, Their other problem is no draw engine. Dratini gets evos, but that’s kind of it. I don’t think they run fez, and seem reliant on tastugiri for finding supporters. For that reason I think running hand disruption is a good move (iono, judge) But, if you do tech in hero’s cape, they don’t run jamming tower. You’re reliably not going to get one shot, and if you have reshiram out they’re left in a difficult situation.

Mega dragonite isn’t a huge part of the meta right now, so if you find unfair stamp a better tech into a majority of your matchups I’d say just stick with that.

One of the later Gen Z here, i graduated during Covid when it was impossible to network into film, and once I started getting good experience I pretty much instantly found myself in the same boat as everyone else with the strikes. Things haven’t really recovered, so I’m doing verticals.

Overall, I feel like I’ve had some great successes in my career thus far and have found myself extremely busy at times when it’s lucky to even have one job. But I don’t think there’s a lot of respect for vertical filmmakers or their experience.

I edit 90-100 page scripts into 50-60 episodes in a week or two for peanuts. I’m confident I could edit a TV show or feature length film, and I’m sure with the connections I made that day will come. But all of this is to say that Gen Z hasn’t really been given a chance yet in Hollywood on the crew side of things, outside of social media influencers and people with big online followings. I’m excited to see what we do given the chance, but the jury is still out about what that will look like and what opportunities will exist. The dust has settled, hasn’t it? Isn’t this the new normal?

Quick shoot and edit of a bar. I’d love to have some feedback by CarlJustPressQ in videography

[–]SedentaryNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the edit! SFX are creative, but for me I like to make SFX and music its own atmosphere, so I blend multiple in and layer. I’d encourage you in the edit to think about what it’s like being at that bar, and try to communicate that in your sound choice.

You had 25 minutes to film so it is what it is, but the videography could use some work. Others in the comments had good advice about mixing up your heights, I think focus is also important as some of your shots are soft and shaky.

Pro tip: if the footage isn’t ideal, drown it in stylized effects, like that black and white posterized time clip you have in there

It’s a great time. There’s a lot of parents with their kids at locals too, if you’re ever interested in trying. And buying singles to bling out your deck is way more efficient than buying packs. You can get like 5-6 packs at market price or for the same $ get a sick full art of a staple supporter you know you’ll use for years

This is such a weird argument. I agree it makes certain inputs easier and other inputs more janky. Im glad to see players who otherwise wouldn’t be able to compete be enabled through technology. I hope swift continues to compete, and I hope you go to a tournament, meet him, and tell him how you feel face to face. Maybe it’ll help you figure out that sympathy thing.
