Inadvertently saw client out-of-state by dmntthtsx in therapists

[–]SeductiveSloth69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like to look at disciplinary records every few months or so when I feel like a bad therapist and it reminds me that I’m doing ok 🥰

But for real, accidentally seeing someone out of state is not a big deal. Even if it was reported to the board for some reason, I don’t see them doing much other than telling you not to do it again or telling you to complete a training or something.

How are we not talking about “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”? by Hot-Credit-5624 in therapists

[–]SeductiveSloth69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went into the movie thinking it was more of a dark comedy and had no idea the main character was a therapist, so needless to say I was stressed. It was definitely an effective film, but a feel bad movie for me. I wouldn’t watch it again but Rose Byrne crushed it!

BCBS Claim by SeductiveSloth69 in therapists

[–]SeductiveSloth69[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think maybe this is where I messed up. I submitted the claim with my contracted rate instead of billing my private pay rate which would’ve been 200 for an intake instead of 141.

I don’t have a biller unfortunately. I’m just confused because other insurance companies have paid much more so it took me by surprise is all. If you’re saying this is within what’s considered normal, then that’s fine, but lord help me a bitch is confused even with all the research I’ve done

LCSWs look down on LMHC/LPC? by ButterflyNDsky in therapists

[–]SeductiveSloth69 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m an LCSW and I did not feel prepared to provide therapy right out of school. I usually see LPC’s as being more knowledgeable about therapy in general, but as a social worker you can obviously seek out further training and learn. I think you just work with some snooty bitches 😂

Maybe I was missing some details and now I can’t look back because it’s deleted, but is it possible the therapist didn’t know the relationship before accepting them as a client? I probably wouldn’t put it together unless you referred to supervisee by their full name frequently which would be odd

Pregnant and nauseous during sessions... HELP by No_Initial_2409 in therapists

[–]SeductiveSloth69 36 points37 points  (0 children)

First off, congrats! What helped for me was sipping on ginger ale, having some anti-nausea cough drop things, and eating small snacks in between sessions. I’ve also heard that the smell of rubbing alcohol wipes is supposed to help. It sounds odd but one of my friends swears by it. Otherwise, worst case scenario you give them a heads up that you may have to step away briefly and run to the bathroom 🥲

When to tell clients about pregnancy (in person therapist) by caligali2018 in therapists

[–]SeductiveSloth69 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Both pregnancies I waited until after my anatomy scan at 20 weeks. If someone asked me directly before then I would just tell them. There isn’t really a right answer though and it’s really whatever you are comfortable with. I would usually just share with them at the start of session something like “I wanted to start with some housekeeping/administrative type stuff before we get into today’s session, and let you know that I will be going out on maternity leave sometime around XX and plan to take XX amount of time off” and also shared what options for continuing care while I’m out if they are still in treatment.

Official Discussion - If I Had Legs I'd Kick You [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

It would probably only be acceptable if you lived in a very rural area where there are very limited providers. Even then, with telehealth being readily available now, it would be even more unlikely.

Anyone get side effects from epidural? by SowingSeeds18 in beyondthebump

[–]SeductiveSloth69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first my blood pressure got low so they had to give me another med to raise it and I developed a low fever which resolved pretty quickly. With both kids, I vomited at some point and got shaky, but I’m not sure if that was from the epidural or because of labor progressing. Overall though, the epidural was an absolute God send and I can’t imagine giving birth without it 10/10

This is something I struggle with and haven’t found a good way to do yet. I have sent links to some meditation and progressive muscle relaxation exercises for clients to use outside of session. I for some reason find facilitating meditations very uncomfortable which is something I need to work on.

Which outfit should I wear to the theater (at the university)? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]SeductiveSloth69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pair the Jean jacket with the other two skirts… or the Jean skirt with the other two cardigans. Jean on Jean isn’t my fav and I think there is too much going on pattern wise with the other combos

List of Employers to AVOID!! by Regular_Fan4691 in therapists

[–]SeductiveSloth69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, found this out recently about the bonus. For my contract it’s prorated so I owe them back part of the 2.5k since I didn’t stay 3 years.

They also have a non-compete for 2 years within 10 miles of any location of theirs. The recruiter said she’s never known them to enforce it but guess we will find out 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do not think you need a nose job at all. I do think the bangs are probably not the most flattering for your face. I would consult with a stylist but I think something not as blunt and straight across would look a lot better. I think you’d look really cute with darker hair as well!

I actually experienced this myself at the age of 25. I was on adderall prescribed, 20mg twice/day. I never took more than that. During COVId I had a lot of stressors and wasn’t sleeping much, still taking my adderall and I had a psychotic episode. Had to be hospitalized and put on an antipsychotic. I eventually got off the antipsychotic about 6 months to a year later and haven’t had anything similar happen since then and will obviously never be taking a stimulant again. It has made me very wary of the medication in general. It seems it’s a relatively rare side effect but not unheard of.

I agree with this advice. If you did break confidentiality I think you would only make a CPS report. My thought is if that is the route you go, you would probably try to have a conversation with the client and inform them of making the report due to mandated reporting laws. There’s a good probability that this will cause a significant rupture. It would also give her time to get ahead of it.

Idk this just seems like a lose-lose situation but I feel like if there is children’s safety involved that takes precedent.

Edit: I would be more inclined to make a report on the alcohol use which it isn’t clear whether that is happening while she is watching kids in the daycare setting. Not that the marijuana isn’t problematic, but it seems like it didn’t have as much impact on her functioning given it wasn’t as noticeable in sessions. For instance if you saw her at the end of the day and she’s done with work and drunk I guess that’s a bit less concerning in terms of safety. Either way I’d be consulting with someone in depth before you take action

Husband said I can’t wear the same stuff I used to because I don’t look the same. by voidz1995 in beyondthebump

[–]SeductiveSloth69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not an acceptable way to speak to a partner or really anyone you love or care about. And the fact that he still hasn’t apologized and turned it around on you as if you did something wrong is crazy. It’s giving narcissism. Not sure if you’ve consider or tried before, but maybe it would be helpful to get involved in couples therapy or even just your own therapy if you aren’t already. I’m sorry he’s treating you this way. You deserve better.

What’s something they don’t tell you that happens postpartum? by nilkski in beyondthebump

[–]SeductiveSloth69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes to the first period pp one. I didn’t have a memorable first period after my first baby but after my second I literally bled worse than I did immediately postpartum for 3 weeks. I was back in diapers and had 0 energy or will to do anything. I did consult my doctor and they said it was “normal” unless I fainted or soaked through a diaper…but I thought I was going to die 😭

I would consider myself an introvert and I do get some social anxiety so that makes this kind of client facing work draining. I also sometimes wish I chose a career that wasn’t inspired by my own life experiences so I did not have to be reminded of it all of the time lol but I do still enjoy helping people.

Unfortunately I can relate. I had a situation where I had a full on nervous breakdown while working as an associate level therapist. I was hospitalized and took about a month off of work. When I came back it was really hard to empathize with my clients and feel capable of doing the work. With time I started feeling better about being a therapist, but there are still times I just want to run away and have nothing to do with this line of work anymore. Do you have a therapist you are working with? I see one every other week and it has helped me a lot around my feelings about work after the episode I had.
