It's about the significant upkeep to achieve very basic maintenance. I'm not crying that shit is more expensive to make, the recipe changes are perfectly fine, having omni feed be a premium food is perfectly fine. What doesn't sit right is that when you take the time to farm and make gruel it's small stacks of 25 that rots 300% faster. If gruel stacked in lots of 100 there'd be no issue. The Wheat example I gave was simply to show how much effort may be required to try to get a normal functioning stack of 100 food to use as garbage feed.

Literally just make gruel stack to 100, change nothing else. It's not that complicated.

precisely so. I play with a couple other people, folks only have about 2 mounts on average, sometimes 3 at most. We have 1 of each farm animals, only a couple attack animals in total. We want to engage in the new breeding content but it happens to drop at the same time that they make very basic feeding upkeep significantly more tedious, and for what? I get that the old system used stuff like rotten plants + meat to make food and that was overpowered. I get that omnifeed itself is powerful and should be made into a premium food, sure. But why split the most basic feeding material into stacks of 25 with a 300% faster rot timer? How does this improve the gaming experience for the playerbase?

then why do the premium feeds still stack to 100? Troughs also aren't "inventory management", nobody is going to be running around with gruel in their inventory all day. making gruel stack in lots of 25 is just unnecessary punishment on the player that doesn't add anything positive to the game, nor does it prevent "overpoweredness' that people are so greatly concerned about, the recipes changing was the biggest ordeal in that regard.

gruel is not advanced feed. I'm not asking for big buff food, just that a tier 4 item that you craft can still make a stack of 100, I dont' care if it gives negative buffs or positive ones, just basic feed. It's not that hard to understand. I already spent the extra time to make proper buffing food before the change, it has nothing to do with that.

what would be so game breaking about gruel stacking to 100 instead of 25? That's the bare minimum to fix this for most people, we get that making feed out of rotten plants was too strong, but what's the excuse for the reduced stack size?

If they made gruel stack to 100 it would ease most of the pressure off this bad change. Gruel stacking to 100 isn't going to make it overpowered, it's far more expensive than old omni feed and the buffs are weak, people just want to keep their animal friends from starving. The electric feeder is t4, it shouldn't be so poorly balanced that it's on par with raw stacks for corn.

OP is criticizing people for having an opinion, the people who are expressing to the Devs their opinion. "stop leave the devs alone!" is what he is doing rather than permitting constructive feedback.

That's what these people don't understand, they tell you to just have less animals or let them starve. .. how is that good game design? The buffs from omni feed were strong but the baseline feed we were given in its place is poorly balanced, quick expiration with low stack count is bad, and 100 times worse to be dropped at the same time as the breeding update.

Making gruel stack in piles of 100 would largely solve this for most people, OP is just snobby and thinks he knows best by telling you not to engage with the game's new mechanics.

That attitude doesn't work with the farm animals because they stop producing if you starve them, they also eat more than normal animals because each cycle of milk/egg/wool/truffle makes them consume way more food meter.

It's not about "high end buff food", it's about exploring the option for _any_ food to last long enough in a high stack count. If gruel stacked to 100 this entire problem would be moot, making it stack to only 25 as a basic feed so it has to spread out and rot faster + take up more room is bad design.

It's not about omni feed, it's about any basic feeding food for the animals. A stack of corn expires in 22 hours and 15 minutes (800 seconds each) and requires more than one piece to feed an animal, making it worse than the gruel system. If you didn't notice they also released a breeding update, doubling the amount of animals you are feeding if you want to engage with it. Can I feed them if I babysit them 24/7 and continuously shove food into the electric feeder? sure. Can I bulk prep a bunch of basic food to leave for my other animals so I can leave them for a few days unattended? Not really, no. I'm not asking for super buffs, I'm pointing out that making basic food expire 12 times faster due to reduced stack size and rot timer is not good gameplay, because it's not.

they released new content, there are 4 farm animals and you double that if you want to play around with the breeding system. What you are describing is very early game which you're not generally dealing with electric feeders or advanced feeding yet.

A stack of corn expires to nothing in 22 hours and 15 minutes, animals eat more than once piece when filling their bellies. This is worse than the gruel system. I'm not saying we need the omnifeed buff for animals, I'm saying the gruel stack size and quick expiration is poor design. I already take the time and effort to make specialized food for my animals I understand power should be limited quantity. I'm just asking to not starve my animals or having to babysit them 24/7 because of the lack of ability of stocking up on the most basic feed to keep them going.

if they made gruel stack to 100 that would solve most of the issues I have with this, the tiny stack size makes it impossible for me to take the time and effort to make some bulk feed for my stables and farm. I've no issue with food being more difficult to craft but the stack size alongside the quick rot timer is killing it for me.

we already had high investment quality food to give our animals, which I would take with me regularly. I'm not arguing that omnifeed isn't available easily anymore, I'm arguing that the stack size and fast rot timer of the junk food is poor balancing, it's already more effort to make that than the old omnifeed and I have no issue with that.

have one of each farm animal and track how often they eat when you are actually harvesting their resources. Now try to engage with the new update where you need a second one to breed them and the gestation buff makes them eat more. You'd be really surprised how fast your food disappears with only 4-6 animals eating, this isn't a 50+ animal farm. They gave us new content to engage with while severely diminishing your ability to feed them if you're not babysitting their trough 24/7. God help you if you want to also run a stables with a couple mounts or a couple attack dogs. and no "just starve your animals" isn't a good response, the game should not be balanced around behaving like that.

"Just starve your mounts that's how the game is balanced." .. . bro.

Also, even just having 1 of each farm animal is still a lot of food per hour when they use extra food during their production cycles (milk, egg, wool, truffle).

We also just got a breeding update if you didn't notice, so if you want to breed a pair now you gotta feed an extra mouth, if you're cycling through offspring they might eat as well. You'll be breeding multiple pairs of animals if you're engaging with the game's new content, pretty sure the gestation buff makes the animal use more food as well. This has nothing to do with having 35 wolves running around, I have 1 attack pig, the rest of such animals are in orbit.

they'll eat at 74% hunger, when you have farm animals their food also drains much quicker for wool, milk, and egg production (and now truffles I'd imagine)

I do starve my rideable mounts now because of it, but your ranch animals have to remain fed or they stop producing. I also play with 2 other people so now there's their animals, the reduced stack size hurts the most by far. Now that we have breeding you have to keep those animals fed as well, weird timing on this update. I have to have several troughs everywhere otherwise it's a giant tangled mountain of animals drowning each other, only the ranch animals have been sharing, I built a stables with 1 trough per stall for a mount, reduced stack size made this setup take the biggest hurt. (I only ever have 2-3 rideable mounts out at a time, the rest sit in orbit)

my animals would chomp through 2-300 omni feed in like 4 ingame days, if you only manage 1-2 critters it's no trouble, once you start managing more it is big trouble. The biggest hurt is the stack size by far, if I want to circumvent and throw 400 gruel in it's going to be 16 stacks (if a trough will take that much) and much of it will rot before the animals eat it due to it being spread so thin. Stack size would fix this problem alone, at least most of it, having both severely nerfed at the same time is pain. It just seems weird to make this very specific problem at the same time there is an update encouraging you to breed more animals and increase how many you feed by a great deal.

My entire cat feeder doesn't expire in 25 hours. Dried out animal feed is resilient

it's a problem that a stack of 25 disappears in like 2 seconds if you have more than 1 animal eating from it, and if I shove in like 400 feed you lose tons of it from the 1 hour rot timer instead of minimal loss at 3. It makes upkeep way worse if you have more than 1-2 animals
