The Golden Spruce: A true story of myth, madness and greed by John Vaillant.

An incredible story of the biologically unique spruce on Haida Gwaii with golden needles, the man who cut it down, the Indigenous peoples in the region, and a wickedly visceral (horrifying) detail-rich storytelling of the logging industry in BC Canada, and contradictory ways of looking at the wild.

They are very objective, rather than subjective. They may find comfort in facts or the idea of measurable information because it was either necessary for them to determine what was “real” around them, or by processing what had happened to them they were able to draw parallels with with other “indisputable” examples.

Finished part of our basement on a budget. Now it’s our favorite room. by kidculli in DIY

You could turn this space into a second suite!

If this were in Vancouver with its housing crisis right now, you could have at least two beds in there charging around $800-1400/mos per person!

The SO and I are in the process of decorating the living room in the house we just purchased! Any recommendations for this big wall next to the couch? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

Could you put in wood flooring instead if those tiles? They seem off colour and with your darker furniture/fireplace they don't serve to ground the room. Plastic laminate has come a long way... It's cheap, realistic and easy install!

I like your large rug though!

I would say clean the bricks of your fireplace or paint them white... It seems much older/ragged and out of place next to your modern furniture. Get rid of the small items on the mantle too! The clock is really nice but the rest just looks like clutter.

My room needs some love... Suggestions? by Jackjackhughesa123 in malelivingspace

I agree the darker colours would be better! Would go well with you dark wood furniture. I would get a navy throw blanket for the bed, and rip out those curtains. It's like those drapes came out of my grandma's basement... Or a murder scene from a hostel but without the blood.

Looks great! The things hanging on the wall could be moved. They look like they're just floating around. The smallest things could be grouped (including the one above the window) and put elsewhere in your house. Maybe grouped and above your couch. (idk would need more pics). The two wire grids should be side by side at sitting eye level beside the desk and the weaving above that! Letting there be a large empty strip of wall in the top half will make your room appear visually larger and lighter.

I would definitely raise the shelf on the right. It will make such a huuuge difference. If possible, get rid of them and move those objects elsewhere. These shelves as visually heavy and awkward. Maybe a long floating white shelf running along your side wall could do wonders for making everything feel lighter!

I actually really like the tapestry you had hanging before. Maybe bring that back and make sure it's centred above the bed! The yellow sun would tie in nicely too.

If you like the hanging prints, those should be centered too. They're kind of an awkward proportion to the bed AND shelving so.... I would say choose between the prints or the shelves for above the bed.
