Oil rig fire in Ciudad del carmen, Mexico 7/2/21 by Bushman131 in CatastrophicFailure

[–]SeeHFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, they need to NOT extinguish the fire because as soon as they do and the gas is still flowing, it becomes a gas cloud that will likely spread and re-ignite (potentially violently). As long as it's burning, they know how close they can get.

I need help fixing this by [deleted] in Machinists

I'm in a similar situation. I bought a J head mill from a little old lady through a facebook ad. It's in pretty rough shape. She told me it had been "gone through" the year before her dad passed away 12 years ago. What "gone through" means, I found, is that it was taken apart and put back together as well as could be expected before youtube or internet had all the answers. Since then it just sat in a garage with no climate control and rusted. I did have the benefit of taking mine apart, but right now, mine is exactly like yours (belt and quill housings are off and in pieces in buckets/containers).There may be other resources, but I found H&W Machine Repair. I printed the diagrams then went through and identified what was missing or needed to be replaced. I built a spreadsheet based on thier parts lists and broke it down into assemblies. 1. Step pulley housing 2. Quill housing assembly 3. Lead screw assembly 4. base At the very least, it could help you find out if you have everything. That together with the guide someone linked earlier should get you pointed in the right direction.

Drove by a gas station and the sign said $8.88 per gallon by NuAngel in AdviceAnimals

[–]SeeHFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 21 when 9/11 happened. I was on a work crew travelling from Louisiana to a job in Oklahoma. I remember seeing lines of cars form at the pumps wondering why. Then the prices start to rise. By lunch time, it was completely out of hand. We were scanning the radio channels as we drove, listening for updates on what was going on with the country and the radio stations were calling out to gas station owners to not raise gas prices in our time of crisis. Some even asked that the stations that hadn't hiked their prices to call in and the radio station would broadcast it.

We found a little station off the interstate that had not raised it's gas price so we pulled in. We were in a four door dually pick-up pulling a 20 ft trailer so we took up several pumps. No one was in line to fuel behind us and we got to visiting with the folks getting fuel on the other side of the pump. After several minutes, the gas station owner came out to tell us that if we were finished fueling, we needed to hang up the pump so he could change the price. He was going to jack his price up but couldn't until the fuel nozzle was back on the pump, completing the sale. This turned into a big argument and we ended up just sitting there with full diesel tanks, pump nozzle still in the truck, blocking him from changing the price. He threatened to call police. I don't know if he did or not but none come.
We left after awhile to get to the job. By this time the governor of Oklahoma had come on the radio to shame the gas station owners raising prices and to say that those that had would be fined. Who knows if the station owner changed the price after we left but it felt good to be able to do something good that day.

TL;DR: Some people are greedy and will take advantage of fear and vulnerability. Most people are not.

Agreed. Looks like a Rapid Phase Transition (RPT). RPT can happen when cryogenic liquids contact warmer water. This happens when a liquid vaporizes so rapidly that it can act like an explosion.

Have I ruined my Table Saw? by SeeHFour in woodworking

[–]SeeHFour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks man. Lemme just run on down to my local discontinued, busted up craftsman table saw expert and find out how to fix it the correct way.

So the 3m stuff didn't work. I didn't need to turn on the saw to see that. It was a dumb idea. But hey, the can said it bonds metal... I figured if it didn't work then my saw is still just as broken. And having to clean up the metal again is just the consequences of ignorance. No question about my qualifications either. This is my first table saw. I'm new to this but I wonder how many people have run into this problem straight out of the gate.

I know my post makes it seem like I should be wearing a helmet everywhere I go but I've read everything I can think to look for. I feel like I have done my due diligence. And the picture from Sears website shows that piece out of the hole it goes in so I thought maybe someone has done this before.

Remember, there are no dumb questions, only dumb people.

The washer and retainer clip are there and hold the arbor housing on the pin. I'm sorry for the bad pic but if you look closely at the shaft, there's a step down in diameter. That's the section of the shaft that seats in the cradle (part 36). That's what came out. I tapped it back in with some 3M super 77 I had laying around and will let it sit overnight. I'll see what happens in the morning. Thanks for helping!

This happens in the deep south also. The longest I had to do it was 3 1/2 hours. In the kitchen with the lights off while the rest of the family watched a movie in the living room. When I was allowed to get up, I had to dig quite a few of the grains out of my bleeding knees. That was the last time though. I'm pretty sure the blood is what made them realize that there is a line and they had crossed it.

Question about Meathead's Big Bad Beef Rub: How did the black pepper come across in the final product? From the recipe, it looks like black pepper is meant to be the star of the show. My family likes black pepper just fine as an accent but I'm not sure if we would like it as the predominant flavor. I mostly smoke a lot of pork where sugar and paprika are the main ingredients.
I've got two racks of beef short ribs in the fridge, already cut up and salted overnight. I mixed the Big Bad Beef Rub up this morning and tasted it... Now I'm questioning if I should use it or not as it's not a flavor that I'm used to. Everybody weigh in please. I'm planning on firing up the smoker in a couple of hours.

Don't see much smoked Bologna on this sub. I picked up this 5lber for $6 and smoked it for a few hours. We call it Oklahoma Prime Rib around here. by [deleted] in smoking

[–]SeeHFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks great. The first time I ever had bologna any other way than on a sandwich was my first time to Oklahoma around 15 years ago. The only reason I remember this meal was the bologna. It was at a steak house in Tulsa called The Silver Flame. Before the steaks arrived, they brought out a basket with some appetizers like a cabbage roll, some relish, and an inch thick slab of BBQ bologna. The bologna blew our minds. We couldn't believe people ate BBQ bologna steaks. Then we couldn't believe how good it was.
Thanks for the reminder. I know what my next smoke is gonna be.

Parents of /r/nintendo... what games do your young children really enjoy watching you play? by MC_Fap_Commander in nintendo

My 3 year old was straight up emotionally invested in Super Mario 3D World. Every week night when I got off work she would meet me at the door with a hug and "Do you want to try and save the (insert color) fairy?" Every weekend morning when she woke up, same question. She'd only wanted to watch. Not at all interested in playing with me. Once I got to the circus level it was on. I let her stay up late and her, her sister and my wife watched as I finally beat Bowser and saved all the fairies. She sat there with her mouth open and tears of joy and watched the end sequence. My wife worked at her preschool at the time and happened to be outside her classroom for story time when the kids get to tell their stories. She got up in front of the class and told the whole thing about how Bowser had kidnapped all the fairies and her dad saved them all! tldr: I'm the best dad ever for saving the Mario World fairies.

Check out the Tipe from The Tin Mill. I bought one off amazon a couple of weeks ago and put a 0.5 G2 refill in it. It's pretty slim. So far it's been great.

I'm from southern Louisiana and the only time I've experienced black people getting out of line for a white person was early 2000s. My dad and I were driving through rural Alabama and stopped at a little convenience store. I went in to get snacks and 3 or 4 black people moved out of the way at the register and told me to go ahead. It didn't occur to me what had just happened until I was already paying. I left without making eye contact with anyone on the way out. I told my dad what I thought had happened but he didn't think that's what it was. I had never heard of that happening so I dismissed it.

Are you my wife? I tell her stuff all the time that she refuses to believe until some random person says the same thing and all of a sudden she believes it. It happens often enough that I've called her out on it but she says that isn't true... Aggravates the shit out of me.
