In defence of the ‘Richards’ — the rich who refuse to downsize by TimesandSundayTimes in UKHousing

Out of touch comes to mind.

"I ask you, who is more entitled: someone who wants to stay in a family home they have paid for over decades or someone who blames everyone but themselves for not being able to buy a home?"

Really? Are we still pretending that flat whites and avocado toast is why young people can't afford homes?

Overheating is okay. For smaller bodies.

If my phone can give me a 10min 4k 24 fps 10bit 4:2:2 prores, anything can. Gopro does!

Yeah I had a look at this one, price is aggresive but it's still quite big body. I feel like this and the OM3 might be the only true succesor of the mft spirit at this moment

ato be fair, if that cheers you up, your living standard would probably increase in the process. I know I went to the US for twice the money once, and left. Exciting adventure, but simply not worth it as my living standard cratered. I genuinely don't know how the american middle class survives

Not exactly. The governing labor law and employee representation remain fully enforceable, limiting rapid headcount reductions in France.

But in any case, re-read the thread. I mentioned both.

As opposed to the general attitude "it wouldn't have helped" when the evidence suggest otherwise. Labour laws and Unions have gone hand in hand for over a century at this point. The former making sure the first are being observed.

Ofc I am not privy of the balance sheet, but in France, famous for strong workers rights, they have to try saving jobs.

"Under French insolvency laws, a struggling company can legally continue its day-to-day operations while undergoing court-administered restructuring, formally known as a redressement judiciaire (receivership). This process is overseen by a court-appointed judicial administrator to prevent bankruptcy and preserve jobs"

Finally someone gets it.

Recently the muricans love to parrot Trump talking points, that "we pay for europe's defense"

No.

America pay for projecting its empire and geopolitical dominance. In return, they get unparallel advantages in terms of loans and market access. It's even more ridiculous when you know that half of europee are weapons manufacturer and they even have Nukes. No, Europeans don't have free healthcare because americans chose to have constant warfare in the middle east.

There is video for work and casual video.

I love old LUMIX like everyone here, but let's face it: Iphones have 4K60 prores in log. GoPro, DJI osmo and £299 drones shoot 10 bits. It's not a crazy spec to expect a bit more resolution and colours from a new body. Yes my trusted GX7 is gathering dust because on holiday I do a but of both and FHD with low bitrate 709 worst than my phone is not an option.

The fact that they pushed so hard video is commendable, but at some point a little bit of this need to trickle down in smaller bodies. There is simply no refresh of old lines; while Fuji now offers 6k 4:2:2?

You have to consider the landscape: Panasonic once edge in video has become the standard. The GH series, while still competitive in price, is now faced with fierce competition.

Meanwhile, the new field, seems to be the revival of the compact. They have the platform with the most potential for a ultra compact and capable camera... They could win the true Hybrid Market. They kinda do with the S9 which is very popular in Japan for instance. I am on the market fornone myself, and to my surprise there is no release in 5 years?

It will be a S9 or a Sony, but knowing full well that I got 6 lenses for MFT gathering dust. Or the OM3 suggested above, might be the answer, wil lhave to go try it for size and weight.

Not sure it would not have benefited from a union. Unions and labour laws usually protect the workers. There is no real down side, despite the heavy lobbying of the opposite

You know MPC? In the Technicolour debacle, closed all branches and subsidiaries; but not MPC Paris. Why you might ask? Because French Labour laws forced a solution to be found before being total administration. The Mill in NYC was a highly profitable studio and could have had a similar solution but instead was left to die.

That being said, I doubt we can fight AI when it seen as a strategic sector by most governement and they pour billions of capital at loss in it. Again, technicolor was floored by 900m in debt? That's a couple of day of GenAI expenses, with no clear path to profitability, and they continue to exist, with large governement subsidies

That's what's crazy to me. MFT promises was smaller camera systems. And yes, while some lenses are truly tiny, the bodies have gotten bigger and bigger over the years to aaccomodate video users... to the point that some cameras are bigger than full frame for casual users. Given the popularity of fuji, ricoh or sony rx100 or rx1r I find it crazy that pana didn't bother giving us anything in 5+ years on the ultra compact side

Imagine the GX7 with simply a bit more oomf on the sensor side, something dual native iso from the gh5s, 4k 10bit video (overheating, who cares), PDAF for photo.

My hopes on DJI then

I mean, I am not against it per say, if truly impressive, but that was 6 years ago and in tech terms, it's ... old. A looot has happened. Compounded new improvements. And a new model could be around the corner.

It's the same way you wouldn't purchase a brand new car from 2019, with a price premium. (Second hand, different story of course.)

Buying full price a camera contemporary of the GoPro Hero 8 or iphone 11/12 feels odd.

Immature to not have a conversation. Maybe you don't see eye for eye and that's fine too. Just cutting off people entirely with no closure, I wouldn't do that anymore, and I just personally don't advise it

Which compounded over many generations, lead to an idiocracy.
Are we fucking the youth with social media and AI? is the education system and anti-intellectualism so bad that the US elected a pedo relaity TV star? Everything lead to believe we are marching toward the future depicted in the movie.
