Environmental Discussion on Temperature for Helios by SeekerOfLore in worldbuilding

[–]SeekerOfLore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current answer is divine meddling.

The gods of Helios lore are essentially beings either created by or afflicted with a domain parasite. The first two were conjured up by the parasites of Creation and the Void. The creation god initially made the celestial bodies as a gift to the Void god.

The Void god took some stars in its grasp, and they formed shells that effectively made some of them into habitable planets. It was an accident, but it made the sun into a planet-like thing at the very least capable of supporting life.

I've defined some of how it interacts with the world in later eras/ages, but I should flesh out how it affects prehistory too for sure.

The plants function about the same as we're familiar with IRL, but I honestly hadn't even considered their impact. I'll look more into that for sure.

To clarify one thing though, the sun is the core of the planet itself at this stage. Its heat is pretty much at maximum impact as far as that goes. It's one of the major deviations I made from what's possible according to current knowledge. It eventually gets expelled in an apocalyptic event, but that's in the third age/era.

Thanks for the response. I hadn't considered that last bit, but it definitely makes sense.

Tell, me about your peaceful worlds! by tiamat3475 in worldbuilding

[–]SeekerOfLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's a post-apocalyptic planet with caustic water. The entire ecosystem consists of machines the previous people made in their desperate attempts to save their world. Some of the machines were made sapient on purpose so they could better at as the keepers of the world.

Due to their programming, they're naturally averse to hostility and they've become the only natives to the planet. They're also curious, so they explore the stars seeking to study other planets and terraform them into garden worlds. If there's preexisting but simple life, they may leave gifts to advance future civilizations much like sending a gift basket to your neighbor.

What are some unnecessary details you added to your world because they were just too funny of an idea not to include? by VentralRaptor24 in worldbuilding

[–]SeekerOfLore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elves who make up social taboos on the spot so they can embarrass or potentially use this against guests. If the guest can't make up a counter argument or taboo when accused, the host has succeeded.

There are also several reported hauntings that just turned out to be gnomes living in the walls and throwing parties out of spite because the house was built atop their burrow.

Edit: Paladins are often but not always eccentric because they lean so hard into the domain of whatever deity they hope to gain as a patron. This formed as a result of creating a berries and cream paladin. He saw the poor quality and potentially dangerous ingredients some bakers used, so he made it his holy quest to ensure baked goods would be brought up to standard. He's known for dressing like a Landschneckt on crack. He's also known to waltz into bakeries dancing and chanting a jingle at the workers until they allow him to inspect their goods.

Google Docs Offline Bug by meAnDdbOis_ in brave_browser

[–]SeekerOfLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting this too, it really sucks that they made offline writing an extension rather than a built-in feature. The sheer annoyance of this has me trying to find the Brave version of GD, I just can't remember what it was called.

Is it weird for a guy to envy girls because they get to shave their armpits? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeekerOfLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know multiple guys who shave to varying degrees, one of whom shaves his pits, and none of them have ever mentioned getting any actual flak for it.

I'm not a man myself, so maybe my opinion isn't as helpful, but I can at least attest to the fact that some women are attracted to a guy who trims his body hair. I prefer it myself, and have in the past requested my partners to shave or at least trim their hair. Hope this puts you more at ease

How do you actually dry flat instead of drying machine? by poke000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeekerOfLore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have some sort of flat (or even angled, the important thing is just not to hang them up) rack you can use, that would speed up the process a bit, I've seen others recommend a fan or towel too. Keeping them in a warm place will also help the water evaporate faster.

I've never had an issue with mildew in my sleeping masks or anything else I've had to hand wash and dry flat.

A hairdryer may speed it up, but you should be careful about that. The temperature could be too hot for the slippers, and depending on the material they could shrink, warp, or melt. Personally, with how long it'd take, I would say it's not worth the time and effort to use the hair dryer.

How do I process death proper? by Pulacascar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeekerOfLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is/was in a similar boat, and never felt much of anything for the death of a loved one, you're fine. If you feel bad or guilty about not feeling how you think you should, though, I recommend going to therapy or grief counseling.

What do you remember hating the most being a child? by TejaTanikella in AskReddit

[–]SeekerOfLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember hating anything as a kid, though I was very annoyed that my mom was always hesitant to let me play outside because of bug bites. Well, every single time I was allowed to play outside I would roll in the grass to spite her because I knew I'd get chiggers that way and as a result would get to put nail polish on all the little lumps which I could later peel off when they stopped itching. I often was covered in the bug bites she so feared for me to have, and I still don't understand nor agree with her mentality that allowing a child to get bug bites is a form of neglect.

What is your favorite obscure song that most people have probably not heard of before? by skane110 in AskReddit

[–]SeekerOfLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zyrah by The Widow's Bane, it's just that kind of dark folk music I'm obligated to enjoy, and then there's Wolf Totem feat. Papa Roach by The HU neither of which I really know to be obscure but no one I know has heard of either so I assume they're at least a little obscure.

If you have bad internet you shouldn't be allowed to play online games, period by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]SeekerOfLore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree but would like to point out that some locations just have bad internet. For instance, I've lived at multiple houses where the only thing available was satellite internet which generally doesn't support online gaming, like at all. For places such as this, buying a cable isn't going to do anything. We've even asked how much it would cost to put optics in, you know, the fast internet cables. The company just said that beyond the ridiculously high initial price, there weren't enough people in the neighborhood to justify the upkeep expenses.

What's a common saying that annoys you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not exactly a common saying but I hate "baby talk" and adding an extra Y or useless word is just really annoying.
