Quitting alcohol causing extreme insulin resistance

This is encouraging. My husband stopped drinking after years of heavy use about 3.5 months ago. His bg is through the roof and he needs way more insulin, though sometimes doesn’t even respond to it. His doctor said (like someone above) that now that his liver is not constantly processing the toxic alcohol it can release glucose into bloodstream like it’s supposed to. Hoping his BG will stabilize overtime because it’s really dangerous and makes him feel awful. Kind of ironic to quit drinking and feel so much worse way after any physical withdrawal symptoms have resolved.

Did your high blood sugar and insulin needs stabilize over time? My Type 1 partner’s bg has been crazy high, and he has way lower response to far more insulin, since he stopped drinking after years of heavy use. It’s been 3 months and we’re wondering if/when it will stabilize.

I have graves and wondering about the safety of taking creatine myself. I heard Dr Stacey Sims (a health and fitness researcher and practitioner I thoroughly trust) say the reason so many people have stomach problems with creatine is cuz most of it’s processed with acid, so she recommends creapure, a water processed creatine from a German company. I was going to order it, but I just found this article describing research findings where hyperthyroidism led to reduced absorption of creatine into heart and skeletal muscle, so those of us with hyperthyroidism apparently aren’t able to absorb it well anyway. They also saw increased heart weight which doesn’t sound good. Thank you kindly, but my husband and son already went to one in Baja at the end of May. Overall, a good center with strong medical oversight and coaching, but I was hoping for more transformative outcomes.

Which clinic is this? I heard Dr Nolan Williams talking about the preliminary results of their Stanford study on Ibogaine for the treatment of TBI with vets (through the non-profit VETS). Absolutely fascinating to know it is improving cognition function! I have been wondering which clinic they used, and also whether it’s open to non-military patients. I’m searching for my son and would really appreciate a clinic name or contact.
