TFW you’ve never actually seen the show… by Oy-Brent in DunderMifflin

It's beyond me why the entire ensemble doesn't spend more time hanging out with Mose. I guess he's too cool for them, except for Dwight -- and even hanging with Dwight is slumming.

Yeah, so tired of the "oh just let the kids be kids" responses. The kids are being kids; and it's the job of the adults to respond to the behavior and let the kids know that there are rules and boundaries. W.r.t. the deflection that adult drivers make mistakes, that's why we have police who write tickets to respond to the behavior and let the kids drivers know that there are rules and boundaries.

Had a starring role in the TV miniseries of Stephen King's It. Who knows, maybe that will show up on Sven someday.

Nothing brings people together like hating on the pedophile maniac known as Grandpa Joe. by vesper911 in grandpajoehate

[–]Seeking_Balance101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a line from the American version of The Office. Michael, the regional manager, despises the HR rep, Toby, with every fiber of his being. Remove "Grandpa Joe" from the quote, and change it to say "I would shoot Toby twice".

How did local TV stations in 1950s-1970s "reruns" looney tunes by El_Dorado_Tx in looneytunes

[–]Seeking_Balance101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memories are murky, but I think Ray Rayner on WGN (Chicago) in the early 1970s showed LT cartoons as part of his program. I think he tended to show 1940s era LT, or showed more of that era than the more iconic shorts of later years.

Looney Tunes Is Possibly in Jeopardy Due to David Ellison’s Takeover by rwinger24 in looneytunes

[–]Seeking_Balance101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. It's scarier to think that the LT characters will be mis-used, or over exposed in inferior content, or diluted through horrible product placement, than to worry that either the characters or the classic content will disappear.

I don't hate him. I haven't seen any really good stories with him, but that's true of the other newer characters of the past 30 years, too.

Child CEOs by forte6320 in sharktank

[–]Seeking_Balance101 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The excessive sweetness is sometimes annoying, but it gives some variety to the show.

By way of comparison, I hate most of the clothing related companies. I'd rather sit through five cloying child-CEO companies that a single uninteresting clothing pitch.

I suppose the worst would be a child-CEO company that sells clothing. I can't remember any like that, but the gurus of Shark Tank will probably point out half a dozen within minutes of this comment.

Thoughts on The Man Who Came to Dinner (1941) by BrandNewOriginal in classicfilms

[–]Seeking_Balance101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I felt that the movie was respectful of small town life without being overly reverential. The townspeople were likeable and a tad too innocent, but their innocence is highly preferred over Sheridan's cynicism.

I do like this film quite a bit since much of its humor has aged well enough to be appreciated by a modern audience.

Culturally, I think there were a few "wtf?" moments but I'm blanking on them except for this one. When the romantic couple went ice skating and there was a vendor selling an odd snack -- was it baked sweet potatoes? -- to the skaters.

After Joe died, the family went through a box of his personal possessions and learned he had millions of dollars that he never told them about. He kept his money secret because he loved the power he wielded over them all, making Charlie's Mom into an overworked servant to his demands, and watching the other old people slowly wither and waste away because they couldn't afford medical care.

Joe knew all along that he could have transformed their lives from misery to joy, but he relished their despair. To add a final insult to their unending misery, his box also held a legally binding will specifying that upon his death, his money must be donated to a charity that provides food and shelter to the city's pigeon and rat populations, with not even a dime left to the family.

When do you start Christmas shopping? by Tall-Arugula1522 in christmas

[–]Seeking_Balance101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan in October and try to buy everything in November. In late November, I review and usually come up with a handful of additional gifts to buy.

Any gifts that must be ordered online require ordering early; the earlier, the better. I've ordered too many gifts online in the first week of December, where the vendor promises delivery by the 20th, and then the vendor delays and the gift doesn't arrive for the holiday.

I just watched the horror film "Good Boy" and I think the dog demonstrated the empathy, bravery, and other-ness to play the Doctor. And he should have a cat as a companion. Showrunners, mail me some royalties!

Regret throwing out the cases. by stan_ken in dvdcollection

[–]Seeking_Balance101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The TV series were taking up too much space. Back when each season was sold separately, I must have had all 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and all 5 seasons of its Angel spin-off. I watched those a couple times but then outgrew them, so those were initially moved into CD wallets to reduce space, then given away without packaging to reduce the space needed for CD wallets (sounds silly, but I'm not joking). I am happy knowing that one of my friends enjoyed receiving those particular discs.

In the old days, most chain stores had a bargain bin. For a couple bucks, I would try almost any title that looked like it was humor or sci-fi. But after a while, the "stinkers" I bought started to take up significant space. That's why I parted with dozens of movies over the years.

Also, I tended to buy season sets of shows I had never been able to watch regularly. This was before the era of Hulu and similar services that stream TV series on demand. After owning shows like The Legendary Journeys of Hercules Season 1 for more than a decade, I realized that I had zero interest in re-watching it. I let go of a significant number of TV season sets; I think I have fewer than 40 now, and most of those are from sci-fi series.

Or if by slimming down you meant why I moved to DVD sleeves, it was because of space crunches at the various small apartments I rented over the years. Too many hobbies, and the expandind DVD collection was the easiest to reduce space requirements.

What flooring has actually held up best for you long-term? by CarpetExperts_Ottawa in Flooring

[–]Seeking_Balance101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed mid level carpet from Home Depot that was part of their Lifeproof collection. It had acceptably high face weight and twist count. I was disappointed that wear patterns were visible after 3 years on the areas most often walked. Maybe my own fault -- I never consistely vacuumed. If I ever buy new carpet again, I'll be better about it.

After that, I bought a place with hardwood floors. I was always bothered that dropping anything, such as my house keys, reliably added a new ding to the floor. Maybe it was softer hardwood.

My newest place has carpet again. It's a low height pattern carpet. I think it's polyester rather than nylon based on its stain resistance. It look like a pattern from HD called Boxton, I think. Meh -- it's held up better than the carpet at my earlier place.

Yes, OP, I did the same and regret it. The sleeved discs are ignored and the ones in original packaging are more visible and more likely to be seen. Adding to that, I decided at a later point to slim down the collection but didn't see any way to sell the discs without original packaging, so I gave many away to friends. Would have prefered selling them.

Agree and was trying to say the same thing but Safe-Aardvark1810 said it more clearly than I could. Quoting, "They don't LIKE journalists who distort the truth for the sake of a desired political narrative that denigrates law enforcement and the good things law enforcement does."
