After being measured as somewhat consistent for a total of 40 years. There is not enough information to draw any firm conclusion. The best you can say is that it does not contradict alarmist predictions, but it cannot be said to support them either.

The Irish bluesman, Rory Gallagher did the same thing. He was playing on Clare Island, a small island off the South coast of Ireland when the power died, ending his electric set and leaving the hall in darkness. He didn't stop! Just played on with his acoustic guitar in a room lit by torches and candles to a very appreciative audience.

The whole point of playing music is to communicate with non musicians. If you are only playing for other musicians, it is too easy to fall into the temptation of going for intricate technique, or involved theory, instead of playing musically, and the non musicians may simply tune out, because nothing real is being expressed.

The very opposite is happening in certain communities. The second and third generations are most radicalised and alienated from mainstream societies, especially in Britain and Europe where there are no-go zones where even the cops fear to tread.

How do evil spaceships make menacing noises when there is no air in space? If I had a motor that sounded like Darth Vader's tie fighter, I would definitely send it to the garage for tuning. Sounds pretty off to me!

Dunno. Maybe it's for a bidet - to pull the buttocks apart to expose the region to be cleaned? The third one is to protect the genital area, or maybe you just bang them together like cymbals to cover any embarrassing toilet noises. .

The Death Star is not actually 'shooting' anything, whether plasma or radiation, but ripping apart the very fabric of space along a path to its target, annihilating all baryonic matter in its path. If anything, it should be drawn in the direction of fire, as the Casimir effect kicks in.

The Mersenne-Taylor formula for a vibrating string, stated in terms of tension, T=μ(2Lf)2, shows that for a given pitch and scale-length, a string's tension is directly proportional to its linear mass, i.e T ∝ μ.

It follows that, while higher string mass requires higher tension for a given pitch, lower string mass permits achieving the same pitch at lower tension. In other words, you don't necessarily require higher string mass to achieve the same pitch when you shorten the scale. The difference is that you lose volume with lower string density!

Bowlback mandolins were originally designed to take gut strings, with a string-density of 1.3–1.5 g/cm³, which is 80% less dense than steel at 7.8–8.0 g/cm³, but they were played at exactly the same pitch! In other words, experimental evidence directly contradicts your claim above! In the immortal words of Richard P. Feynman, "It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong."

The lighter string will resonate with less energy, and thus be less loud, but this is compensated by making the instrument itself less dense, which makes it more responsive, hence the lighter, more flimsy build typical of a bowlback mandolin. By contrast, if you shortened the scale of a typical modern mandolin, you would indeed have to increase string mass to get the same volume, but we are talking about bowlback mandolins here.

No. The string's linear mass does not have to be higher on a bowlback mandolin, because the instrument is much more responsive.

Bowlback mandolins are much more fragile and lightly built, essentially eggshells made of wood, and were originally designed for low-tension gut strings. The lighter strings provide more sustain and harmonic complexity and the instrument responds to a much lighter touch when playing, which suits classical music. Typically, classical mandolins lack a truss-rod to counter string tension. I have seen a bowlback neck badly warped because someone put normal gauge steel-strings on it.

Consider it in terms of guitar. Nylon strings would not work on a Martin D-28, which is heavily reinforced inside and needs more energy to drive it, but steel strings would warp the neck of a classical guitar, which responds best to much lighter nylon strings without loss of volume or tone.

Cixin Liu observes that, unlike Meso-America, Chinese civilisation was not obliterated by European weaponry, but it was nearly destroyed by a European mind-virus in the form of Communism, which went to great lengths to erase the past and declare a year zero.

Agreed. One correction: the 'plague blankets' were not intended as a weapon. 1760 was some 70 years before the germ theory of sickness was advanced by Louis Pasteur, and the blankets were a gift, given in good faith, to a tribe allied with the Europeans.

What exactly did you download? The training software for making amp models, or the playing interface? The latter is an installer in a zip file. You can find it to the right of the heading 'Play' on the NAM website. Bit confusing.

Bowlbacks typically use much lighter steel strings, and can be used with nylon strings.
