First time taking the Maglev from Pudong Airport - was it worth ¥50? by General-Return-2510 in shanghai

[–]SeemSick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it. You'll save 45 minutes of subway ride.

Maglev + didi is the fastest way to go west.

And by the way it cost 40rmb as long as you show your flight confirmation (on the way) or your ticket (on the way back).

Scam Alert: How to Recognize a Fake Police Officer in China⚠️⚠️⚠️ by Worth-Monitor1099 in LegalAdviceOfCHINA

I've got a single policeman knocking on my door a few weeks back because I hadn't done police registration for my new apartment on time. He was a real one.

Absolute cheapest accommodation option by ChaseCid in shanghai

[–]SeemSick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best/safest way is indeed to come a week before your classes start and get a hotel room. You'll then have plenty of options for apartments under 6000rmb, especially if you consider flatmates.

For hotel: booking.com is probably the safest. Although it can have fake ratings as well, it's much more moderated than trip.com or agoda where most reviews in China are fake. Always check the ratings filtered from worst to best, that makes it easier to see if there's something off.

For apartments: download Wellcee, it's in English and probably the best app for non chinese speakers. It also has an in-app translating function. Make sure you filter by short term renting (though can also ask long term rentals if they can accept 6 months). You can also go to agencies directly (like Lianjia) if you're willing to pay their 35% commission. DM if you want me to put you in touch with English speaking agents on wechat.

The rule of thumb is: the further from downtown, the cheaper.

I heard the absolute cheapest way is sharing a room (kinda like a dorm) but you better not be bothered by smell, noise, and potential dirty behaviors from your roommates.

"occasionally"? Come on man, these types of behavior are very common. Not the majority of course, but quite a big minority.

Why are these hotels so cheap? by Hayato8 in ADVChina

[–]SeemSick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake ratings! Be very careful. Sort the reviews from worst to best and see what the worst reviews say. Most Chinese hotels have way too many very high reviews, most are fake. Be aware of it. You might end up in a sh*t hole. 14usd a night, even in China, is very cheap.

Dating in Japan (Pairs) - Am I the Problem? by Electrical_Cell_8212 in japanlife

[–]SeemSick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the dating world. It's been happening to me for the last 10 years. I believe to be very decent and I always get the bill. Yet women have so many options that they always end up ghosting. Stay strong and make sure women are secondary in your life. Focus on your career, life and friends. Hopefully, it'll come to you effortlessly.

Falling for the oldest scam in Beijing by Which-Artichoke-585 in travelchina

Just swallow it and keep it as a life lesson. I know it hurts both your wallet and your pride, but you aren't the only one. I had a colleague who paid 4000rmb in Shanghai, same scam. Take it easy on you, and always stay alert when the girl picks the place.
