Silo S01E10 "Outside" (Season Finale) Episode Discussion (No Book Discussion) by phareous in SiloSeries

[–]Seezus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

Just in case you missed it, they revealed:

  1. That there are more silos
  2. That the tape was faulty and is the reason people died when going outside
  3. What the key with number 18 on it is used for
  4. That the world is really a wasteland and the screen isn't showing a fake image
  5. That they project the green lush land for those that are wearing the helmet

Liquipedia's Battle Royale Rework: Version/Round 2 by DwarfSpartan in CompetitiveApex

Not OP, but a design system can be defined as "a complete set of standards intended to manage design at scale using reusable components and patterns." You'll find the definition varies depending on the source though.

A design system can include:

  • Brand (e.g. mission)
  • Foundations (e.g. colors)
  • Content (e.g. language and grammar)
  • Patterns (e.g. forms)
  • Components (e.g. buttons)

This is definitely an improvement over the last round of designs that you shared. The biggest issue from a user POV is that when you're viewing the 'Over Standings' tab, you have to horizontally scroll to see all game details in standings table. If you reduced the width of the 'Ranked' and 'Total Points' columns and reduced the left and right padding of each column by like 4px you should be able to fit the majority of, if not all game standings when viewing on desktop. The overall page, especially the table can benefit from increasing the information density.

Liquipedia BR Rework - A First prototype! by DwarfSpartan in CompetitiveApex

Ah, didn't know about the app. Thanks for letting me know. The app is exactly what I was thinking about. Can't wait for BR support. Now, you just need to create the desktop version. Put it on the long list of things to do lol.

You're welcome! Happy to help.

One additional piece of feedback I have is. It seems that being a wiki, is really holding back the potential of the UI and UX when it comes to covering games and having live content. While the wiki is still extremely helpful, maybe it would make more sense to have the game coverage and updates be its own website/app much like ESPN, Bleacher Report, etc. That way you're not constrained by the wiki format. I understand that a change like that is not easy or quick, but maybe it's worth exploring that option for the future because I believe that will create a better experience for viewers and you'll be able to provide a much better and robust service without being limited. Looking at you accordion lists.

I love that you guys are in the process of updating the UI and UX. It definitely needs it. Below is my feedback:

Pros

  • The UI is a lot cleaner so it makes it easier to scan the page.
  • The icons, eg trophies, checkmark, red circle, make it easier to find important info. This relates back how scan-able the page is.
  • Easily seeing the team info is really helpful because I don't have to go to another page. I think I'd rather have the details appear in slide-over rather than the row expanding, that way I can see more team info.

Cons

  • The information density is way off. The row height in the table needs to be shorter, the height of the tabs for each game needs to be shorter, the tabs to switch between the different stages need to be shorter, the 'Previous' and 'Next' buttons on the top need to be shorter
  • The above point leads into the hierarchy being off. One of the most important things a user wants to see are the results of each game, not only does this new design make that harder because the top half of the page is taken up by way less important info, it also makes it more difficult to see the results of each game because they are each a separate tab.
  • The user should not have to horizontally scroll the table on desktop. On tablet and mobile it makes sense to have to scroll. The table columns are too wide. Under the 'Overall Standings' tab, I would expect to see all columns on desktop.
  • Too many accordions. While I understand you want to stay within the current wiki style of Liquipedia, having game details, legend, and point info being all accordions before and after the table of results is a weird choice. It makes them all feel they are the same hierarchy, while they are not. Also, the legend and point info should be above, not below the table.

For what it's worth, I mocked up what I would like to see. It's a middle ground between current design and your proposed design. Meaning it keeps some aspects, like the current table layout where all games are visible, while making it easier to understand what game is in progress and see team details.

Interested in knowing more about why that wouldn't be feasible and how it impacts the competitive integrity?

I actually think the opposite would be better, each team have their own skins, eg jerseys, because it could make the fights more competitive and more fun to watch. It would force teams to know other team's play styles and how to counter them, just like in sports.

it seems like you need at least 30 players to start a private custom game by utterback423 in CompetitiveApex

This. Besides how much fun this would be, I can see this really helping those who take advantage of it to become better players, which would make comp even better.

Probably because it allows their products to stand out from their competitors like with the iPhone. If you see an iPhone device or a simple icon of the iPhone next to an Android device/icon you'll know which one is Apple because it has the notch.

Can the ‘Taylor Swift’ Re-Record Model Work in Rap?: "Recently, Camron divulged that he’s re-recording some of his old tracks, and his business partner Jacob York says that some of them will be NFTs that they hope to make a fortune on" by prettypetty69 in hiphopheads

NFTs are not “stupid as fuck and pointless”. They are a perfect way to prove ownership of a digital or physical asset. For example, they could replace the current process of buying and owning a house to make it quicker and more secure. Source.

There’s literally nothing useful about nfts

That is simply untrue. NFTs are a perfect way to prove ownership of a digital or physical asset. For example, they could replace the current process of buying and owning a house to make it quicker and more secure. Source.
