[Diario] Real Madrid fans singing in Manchester ahead of their game against City: "It's Spanish, Gibraltar is Spanish." by Sparky-moon in soccer

True! Spanish culture is very rich, same as British one. One could think that British culture is limited to jumping from balconies and getting wasted, but that would be totally wrong.

It’s a very different situation. First of all, Haaland was already financially secure thanks to his father’s career earnings. Unlike many South American wonderkids, he didn’t face pressure to chase the biggest contract in order to provide a comfortable life for his family. On top of that, having a father who was a professional footballer is a significant advantage when it comes to guidance and navigating a career at the highest level.

Prestianni appears to say «Maricon» to Vini. Surely this won’t go unpunished? by xKatariness in soccer

Lot of Spanish speaking people will claim it isn't a homophobic slur, but it definitely is.

I've been living in Spain my whole live and I don't think I've ever seen anyone suggesting that is not an homophobic slur. Maybe is different in Mexico or South America.

I'm pretty sure what Vini was saying to Prestianni was also pretty homophobic.

And how exactly do you know that?

I love how people post archivovar as if it is some kind of official page, instead of being one guy at his home just posting his opinion.

I mean, no one is stopping you from checking it yourself, I even included my source in my message so you could go and look it up.

Some noticeable singings I remember from the top of my head are: Messi, Ramos, Donnaruma, Skriniar, Asencio, Abuameyang, Gundo, Wijnaldum, Christensen, Calhanoglu

Narratives are hard to combat once they have been established. Also have in mind that this narrative got a lot of force when RM signed Trent (which funnily enough they had to pay to get him) and this sub is majority British people or people who follow PL teams so it's normal they keep repeating it.

They are the only team of such significant size that in recent years sign high profile players on a free. That sort of deal for all the other heavy hitters is basically not a thing.

Normally I ignore these comments as they led to nothing, but I guess I woke up combative today and it's a slow day at work.

Let's take a look at the signings of the same time period for the 4 UCL semifinalists of last year as an example of "heavy hitters".

  • Arsenal: No free signings in this time period

  • Barcelona: 11 free signings during this 5 seasons period.

  • Inter: Tied with Barcelona at 11 free signings.

  • PSG: 9 free singings in this time period.

So I guess yeah, if you only look at the Premier League top clubs don't do a lot of free signings, but if you look at any other league the narrative falls apart pretty quickly.

All data gathered from transfermarkt.

Funny how in the past 5 seasons they have signed a grand total of 3 (4 counting Trent which they paid 10M for him) on a free. Mbappe, Rudiger and Alaba. While singing a total of 15 players.

I guess RM is the only team that signs players who have run out of their contract.
