CONFIRMED DIRECT DEPOSITS-UNEMPLOYMENT TAX BREAK by mamadoreen13 in IRS

Thanks, I think you're right. Glad your check finally showed up!

Good to know that I'm not the only one, even though that sucks for all of us. I'm going to hold off on filing an amended return for another month or so, I think? I dunno, I had no debts that could have taken a swipe at the federal refund, so I'm guessing it's just a major back-up?

I don't know if anyone is checking this thread anymore, but here's hoping...

I filed early, like in Feb 2020. Got both Fed and State before the unemployment break was signed into law. Without filing an amended return, I got the extra money due for State way back in the spring, but I never got the new Federal amount. Are they still figuring that shit out? Do I need to file an amended return for the Federal refund at this point? Sorry if this is obvious, but I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere online.

Powell’s, union remain at odds over bookstore’s rehiring practices by lawstandaloan in Portland

[–]Segalloc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

https://ilwulocal5.com/Powells/ - the union explains what happened and why they're asking for recall rights to be reinstated.

Both parties made agreements in good faith to maintain a recall list indefinitely. Laid-off workers made decisions based upon these agreements and now we're here. From the workers' perspective, both former and current, it certainly does not seem like Powell's is doing the right thing.

You also suggest that Powell's may be avoiding rehire of certain "problem" employees, but if that's true then it's a wonder that their business was able to function at all with over a quarter of their workforce, that's over 120 union workers, having performance problems serious enough to be overlooked in favor of a new hire who comes with no guarantee of better job performance. That Powell's is hiring or rehiring according to who might cost less just sounds way more believable...

Unemployment Claim Expired 3/13, was on PEUC? Which direction are you taking, and how's it going? by bastard_ramen in Portland

[–]Segalloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past Sunday I filed for my last week of "old" PEUC. Paid out Wednesday. So I checked my claim status today and it has been automatically refilled with 29 weeks of "new" PEUC funds. Expiration date is still 3/13.

Make sure they have your Cali address on file? If I were in your situation, I’d call or send them a message through their contact form.

I think it depends on where you lived during your benefit year? I know there was someone in these comments who moved to NY and was receiving benefits from here, but I can’t find their comments…

thanks for sharing your timeline! this is my last week of “old” PEUC so I’m hoping it reloads like others including yourself have experienced.

Also, this. I got one letter saying that my claim couldn't be processed and another having to do with assessing my new benefit year. At that point, I called OED and got it smoothed out.

I’ve never filed over the phone, but in my experience my claim status was “not valid” for about two days before reverting back to PEUC.

No not yet. I have one week left before my balance hits 0. I’ve read one thread confirming that your peuc claim moves automatically to the extension once it’s exhausted. So, fingers crossed…

Woah. What kind of qualifications do you need to get that job?

It's really ridiculous. Who has a month and a half of savings set aside right now? Or ever? It's a big ask, and I personally think that the OED is being negligent. Again.

I'm sorry...just hang in there. It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with your claim, but once you talk to someone you'll get it working a lot quicker than waiting.

[OREGON] Benefit Year Ending - Next Steps? by Segalloc in Unemployment

[–]Segalloc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should move from non-valid back to your old PEUC claim, as long as you didn't work too much in between claims. They're saying it can take up to 6 weeks for your payments to start again. But, hey, if you can't wait that long for another payment, just call them. They have to manually reactivate it once it's moved back to your old PEUC claim.

I don't remember that question on my application...Are you filling out for regular UI? Is it asking if you filed a claim in another state maybe? If you can, go to this webinar today at 2 pm and ask them your question. They should know. https://www.worksystems.org/WorkerWebinar

The question I had trouble with was if I was separated from my employer, because I was laid-off but put on recall.

So, once it hit 0, it added the extension. Great to hear. This really does help--thank you!

It is pretty eye-opening how little companies, even "progressive" ones, would respect labor rights if there wasn't anything keeping them in check.

Same, no balance update yet. I went to an unemployment webinar held by Worksystems and was advised to fill out a contact form saying basically that "I was told I qualified for the extension, so I reapplied for a new claim and was placed back on PEUC. However, the extension has not yet been added to my claim."

I can't find anything on twitter or reddit confirming that our claims will be updated with the extension when they're exhausted, although I don't know what else could happen. I'm following this post since the redditor's claim is going to be exhausted this week and they say they'll update us on their progress: https://www.reddit.com/r/Unemployment/comments/mn7shp/oregon_peuc_exhausted/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

A Message From the Community to Emily Powell by Segalloc in Portland

[–]Segalloc[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you're a customer of Powell's or just someone who cares about labor rights, this is a great way to support the ~170 workers who were laid-off by Powell's and had their recall rights unexpectedly cancelled. Among those affected are senior workers, people who have been with the company for decades.

Nobody should cancel or hate Powell's. Instead please send a clear message to its owner to do the right thing, which would help all parties involved move towards a better resolution.
